Ven's eyes widen as he sees the faint appearance of Pinch, as well as hearing his voice. With whatever might and strength he had, Ven launches himself upward, aiming to try and grab Pinch's hand.
Ven leaps... and for a moment, he is airborne, floating between balloons. Then, Pinch whizzes by, and Ven continues to be airborne. Only this time, he's not floating. He's falling. Down, down, down. Past clouds, past floating stones, down to the depths below. As he falls, Ven screams, and all he can think about is just how much he would prefer not to die just yet, thank you very much. And as he does, he feels a warmth in his shoulder blades.
What might be Ven's favorite species of bird or other flying creature?

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Through the panic and screams, Ven notices how strange the warmth in his shoulder blades is. His mind suddenly recalls the stories he was told of the Phoenix. The bird’s fiery rebirth is a story and trope that filled him with some amount of hope: hope that he would one day break from his lowly states, hope he would feel freedom in a world where his lack of magical abilities became something of a hindrance, hope that he could be reborn as well.
As Ven imagines the Phoenix, the warmth burns brighter, and he finds that... he's not falling anymore. Well, not quite. He's still going down, but it's... controlled, somehow. A glimpse behind his back reveals a pair of burning, golden-red eaglelike wings spreading from his back. It's as if a group of instincts he never had come to life as he realizes he has full control over these wings, and can soar however he likes. He's still heading down, but at this speed... if he angles back up, he can use his velocity and a couple good wingbeats to shoot right back up to where he was.

In the moment of seeing the wings, the panic and fear starts to become pure adrenaline, one that makes Ven feel more alive than ever before. He slowly starts to pull out from his dive, flapping the wings slowly to ease his descent before starting to slowly rise up, flapping his wings to get him back up to the height of Pinch’s balloon. He tries to let himself do more gliding than actually flapping, trying to aim himself to land within the balloon basket.
With what feels like practiced ease, despite never before having a pair of giant, burning wings, Ven swoops up and plummets directly into Pinch's balloon. The fragile thing sways under the impact, but stays intact, and the invisible Pinch screams in surprise. "Ven? Ven, is that you? What the hell, you can FLY?"

"I...I suppose so...but let's deal with that later. For now, let's get out of here!" I whisper to him, trying to get down low and get back on the pedals to propel the balloon back to the Flint as quickly as possible.
"I- yeah, yeah, I guess," Pinch stammers, as he stokes the fire and angles the boat back to Flint. "They're faster and better armed than us, though. I don't know if we have much of a chance of escaping..."
Ven can see that behind them, the Navy balloon's inhabitants have recovered from their surprise and have begun turning the balloon around to go after Ven and Pinch.

Ven thinks for a moment, trying to quickly think of a plan here. "What if I was to try to distract them or keep them busy? I could try to carry you, but I dunno if these wings could carry both of us at your current size..." I start to move towards the back of the boat, thinking for a moment. "...So, crazy thought, but do you think these wings might be able to push us at a faster pace than their balloon?" At the same time, I was gently rubbing at the gorget, hoping it might have some kind of magic to help us in the situation.
"Look, if I have these wings, then you let the balloon fall down a bit to look like it is starting to fall. I'll fly by their ship and see if I can distract them. Sound like a plan?"
(I'm really sorry for inactivity, I'm barely able to keep my larger groups afloat right now as players are dropping left and right, I don't think I'm going to be able to continue this duet)

(Umm... I just realized that I'm not sure what "accuracy of flight would be," but... acrobatics?)
