(Okay, if you are setting up to rest in the hallway, are you establishing a watch? Or are you just relying on alarm to keep you relatively safe? Also you are welcome to attempt to attune during a rest, if you like. Finally, are you all talking long or short rest?)
You settle down for a long rest, sleeping on the floor of the corridor. Fuegotakes the first watch. As the first watch progresses, Fuegohears that wombats(?) around the bend getting more and more restless. He also hears noise from the other direction of the corridor. Mechanical clicks and whirrs, people attempting to stealthily reset/avoid traps, the occasional whispered curse, and then finally attempting to approach the corridor.
Fuego quietly nudges his companions awake, pointing in the direction of the approaching visitors. He will summon a small ball of fire into his hand and prepare to cast it at anyone who rounds the corner (Spell Attack: 11 Damage: 1firedamage)
(Hi folks, I apologize that things have the slow the last couple of months. Lots of stuff changing in my life and it has been harder to find the time to sit down and write. I think I'm mostly through it though. Also Jacks has left.)
Coming around the northern corner, you see a group of...well...cultists. Long dark robes with hoods. But these cultists aren't carrying sacrificial daggers (at least, not that you can see). They are carrying brooms, shovels, mops and buckets. They stop for a moment when they see you and then pull scimitars out from under their robes. Ululating, they come charging to attack.
18 - Cultist 1 takes a swing at Marnoa. But the sea elf is able to step out of the way.
17 - Cultist 2 charges up to Fuego and takes a swing, striking the Genasi in the side. He takes 5 points of slashing damage.
Marnoa is surprised by the appearance and the attack of the cultists. He reaches deep within and channels the power of the storm to blow them back. To the cultists rushing forward, he casts thunderwave to blow them back.
Thunderwave : DC 13 con save, all cultists in a 15 foot cube out from him pushed back 10 feet and take 7 points of thunder damage. Those that save cut damage in half and avoid the pushback.
As a bonus action, he uses his summons his tentacle of the deep that appears and swipes at the closest cultist to him.
Tentacle of the deep, 10 foot reach : 22 to hit, for 8 points of cold damage, and speed is reduced by 10 feet.
15 - Marnoa breathes deeply, centers himself, and claps his hands together in a manner that resounds throughout the cave and forces air and sound to wash over the cultists. Two are immediately thrown back 10 ft and all but one of the cultists seem shaken by the spell. A strange appendage then rises up from the ground beside Marnoa and assaults the cultist nearest to the warlock, beating her savagely until she collapses, dead.
13 - Cultist 3 carefully slides around the strange, watery tentacle and attacks Marnoa with his scimitar. The warlock is hit, taking 7 slashing damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fuego will cry out as the scimitar catches him in the side. Anger glinting in his eyes he summons a fiery scimitar of his own, and slashes back at the cultist who attacked him.
(Morty or someone could always attune to it if Lorenzo accepts otherwise I can RP Morty just manipulating the party to take a rest)

(The identify spell isn't necessary if someone spends a short rest studying the item. You learn the same things.)
Fuego is fine with long rest, and volunteers for first watch. (Fire spirit disappears).

(Morty only gets benefits from a long rest)

Oh yeah, still here.
"Well, so much for getting a good afternoon nap in," mutters the gigantic wizard.
(Yep, still here.)
Marnoa sits up, saying quietly, “Who the hell is in here? Get ready, everyone!” He casts mage armor on himself using his eldritch invocation.
