When you walk into the tavern, a bearded man greets you from behind the bar. “Hello friends, and welcome to the “Bloody Kipper.” Pull up to the bar or grab a table and we’ll get you the finest meal in all the region!”
Jacks enters the tavern with others. He looks around with a handsome scowl, the tavern obviously no comparison to the grand, golden dining hall he had back in the castle. But, he’ll have to endure the hardship with the peasants, earn enough gold and eventually get back his place on the throne.
“And the compensation.” The prince adds grandly behind the cleric.
The barkeeperlooks at you puzzled for a moment. "Petey sent you to talk to me?...Oh! Do you mean my brother Dulf? Ha, Ha. I'm not his father. I'm his brother, Rulf! No, the person you want to talk to about the wombats is our father, Old Ulf. He's sitting over at that table over there." He points to one of the tables in the tavern, where there is an elderly, grumpy-looking human in a red hat. He is staring moodily over his meal.
Rulfthen says, "Why don't you go over and ask your questions? I know he looks sour, but he is just under a lot of stress. He is kind of the village elder. I'll make you some of the house specialties. We have a carrot cocktail that'll knock your socks off."
Fuego smiles toothily, "Hallo, Rulf. Yes, we are here to see your father. We heard there was a need for intrepid adventurers. Something about missing persons and rogue wombats."
He glances at the cocktail, "Er... it is a little early for me to begin drinking, but thank you anyways."
Marnoa ignores the cocktail as well, saying out of the side of his mouth, “Boy, you people really love your carrots…. No wonder you’re all glowing orange…”. He wanders over to the table and says “Hello, Ulf? Dulf sent us here to find you… we came here answering the call for intrepid adventurers, but along the way we’ve noticed you have a problem with some rogue wombats. What is happening here? Angry little beasts, inscribing strange things in their pen, shitting all over my drawing, what is the story?”

Now people be spreadin' rumors 'bout me town! Them wombats be our life's blood, we cannae just kill 'em. Will you help us? I promise you 50 gold each and a bushel of carrots."
As Old Ulf speaks, Rulf brings a variety of dishes to the table, all featuring carrots.

Jacks sees Andre's pupils have gone wide and has started slurring his words, the corner of the prince's lips twitches and he grabs a carrot cocktail for himself as well. Whatever, I need to get drunk. He puts a straw in his and starts sipping the orange liquid now and then. "So what would you like us to do?" The prince asks.
Marnoa’s upper lip curls slightly at the mention of the carrots as payment, but the 50 gp payment has him interested, and his eyebrows raise. His ersatz eye rapidly rotates all around the table, looking at the various carrot dishes as his normal eye looks right in the face at ole Ulf, then the other eye catches up and locks gaze with him. “That sounds good to me. I would be interested in the task,(he looks at the others) everyone else in too? Tell me, do you have any leads, any hint of why their behavior is so strange?”
Olf Ulf says, "The last group came to help went to Dulf'spen and saw the writing in the dirt. Dulfsays they found something that sent them off into the woods. We ain't seen them since." He scoops himself some of the carrot gelatin and begins to dig in.
Morty finishes his drink and remembers the the pen gave him pause. "I actually think the pen might be the problem, maybe we should disassemble it and find out" (19 on the con save)
"'Into the woods', you say? Exactly as we thought! You wouldn't happen to remember which direction they went? Of course we already know where to go, but just in case we need to rescue them...?"
Marnoa looks at the others and says “What if we find a shovel and go into that wombat pen, dig underneath that spot with the writing and find whatever the previous adventurers found, then head west into the woods to investigate, what do you think? If you can turn yourselves away from the carroty goodness of this meal.” He turns to Ulf, saying “Who would have a shovel that we could borrow?”

Marnoa regards the representation of the fish with curiosity, then heads inside, following the others. “What a strange place.”

Since they want to talk to the owner, Morty bellies up to the bar.

Morty will give it a try.
"If you're not living you're dying"
Andre doesn't think twice, he happily takes the orange cocktail and slurps it down.

He then proceeds to dig into one of the carrot cakes.
