The Island of Naka is effectively 3000 years old and was created by 5 different spirits each representing each core element being fire, water, earth, air ,and lightning. Everything was fine until 30 years ago the monsters of Blackspore attacked. A hero named Dash Dynoton defeated the monsters by harnessing the power of the spirits and using that immense power to seal them on the other side of the a long mountain range. After essentially saving the world and fathering a son, Dash vanished and 15 years later Zeon (his son) went on to once again unite the spirits and the people of Naka against the monsters who had breached the mountains with a gargantuan monster named the Jabberwock. Zeon would then set sail to the west and discover a portal between worlds allowing others from other realms to enter the Isle of Naka freely, thus allowing for a heightened magical and technological advancement on the island. However , like his father, Zeon disappeared! "Can you find this long lost hero?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Character Concept: Jonesy, a Harengon Artificer, has always had a heart for adventure and exploration. He loves to create inventions to help others and some of them actually work.
Backstory: Ssej's name means silent death and he has used his monk training to become just that. He has no idea where he came from or anything really of his past except that he grew up in the order. He has always been brutal in the dealings with his enemies and has been well known for taking bites out of his conquests in his bloodlust. Over the past year he has been having dreams of Elemental Dragons as they speak to him and slowly over time he turns into one himself. After talking about his dreams with the head of his order he has been sent to a magical portal and the island beyond to try and discover the meanings of his dreams.

I won’t do a sheet or any kind of stats or anything like that until I know I’m chosen. Unless you (OP) insist on seeing a sheet beforehand. I’ll put the concept and then the backstory here first.
Concept: Halfling connected to lightning in some way. Class wise I’m bouncing back between Tempest Cleric and Storm Barbarian. I might not make the final choice between those two until I know more of the world/other party members.
Backstory: Reed “Sparky” Cherrycheeks came from the illustrious Cherrycheek family. On his world the Cherrycheeks are a halfling family who gained their wealth when one of their ancestors, Perrin Cherrycheeks, became a successful adventurer, his biggest accomplishment including stopping a mind flayer invasion. With that wealth he retired and founded Cherrycheek island, a giant island where they grow Cherries for a variety of baked goods. That is where Sparky grew up.
Most members of the Cherrycheek family since then grew up to become members of high society or contribute to the family business in some way. Sparky however didn’t care for any of that, preferring to spend his days growing up just running around the island. Going into the natural wooded area of the island and swimming in the nearby ocean. Sparky always was an adventurous individual with more spirit than was probably good for him.
When he was 18 he decided to leave the island to explore and adventure himself. Getting on one of the trade vessels off the island and then boat hoping to the adventuring vessel known as Windskipper, Captained by Zodak a human man. A young captain Zodak wore his heart on his sleeves trying to make a name for his crew. He was the one to give Sparky the nickname he goes by now and taught him everything he knows about sailing. Those were four happy years that Sparky will never forget.
Happiness cannot last forever though, as one night tragedy struck. It was a stormy night, and all hands were on deck, the Windskipper was on one of its normal routes when the storm came upon them. It was one of the nastiest storms Sparky could remember, it came out of nowhere, the wind was howling and threatening to break the sails, the waves were crashing and spraying the entire deck with sea water, the only light available was the flashes of lightning giving you just a glimpse of what was going on before you were defeated by the crashing thunder. The entire crew was focused on just staying alive they didn’t notice until it was too late that a pirate ship had snuck alongside them. Using the cover of the storm the pirate gang attacked the crew for whatever we were carrying. Most of it is a hazy memory for Sparky, all that he really remember is the flag the pirates were flying, a skeletal shark, jaw open ready to sink its teeth into you.
When Sparky woke up next he was on an unknown island in a new world. He had no idea how he got here or what saved him. All he really remembers is an anger at that flag he saw and a desire to find out who they were and get some revenge. On this new place he walked and walked and walked until he discovered a town. It was there he discovered he was on a new world a new place, and one where his name didn’t carry a certain weight to it. It was a relief to Sparky, because now he could start being who he wanted to be, not who the Cherrycheeks and world wanted him to be.
Thank you! I appreciate it. I like the elemental tie in and had to run with it. Hopefully the backstory is both detailed enough and vague enough for things. Since there were certain things I was uncertain of not fully knowing the world. So things can be tweaked as needed.
Rothgar: Human Barbarian currently serving as a mercenary with Gallad's Giant Killers, though on leave at the moment and looking for some new adventures
Backstory - Silk was not always who they became, rather originally just an ordinary human being, Yohannes. resided on this island, rather unremarkable except for their intelligence. They had wild theories on the way that the world worked, that no person would ever think to believe. They thought that the earth was round, or that it revolved around the sun and other foolish, heretical things like that. The people could tolerate these hearings, for as long as they felt like they had to tolerate it. It was much easier to tune out when it was just one person than a group.
Then it became a group, and people got mad. And, they blamed Yohannes. After all, he was the one who had all of these ideas in the first place, and they wanted something done about it, damn it! So, a few of the wizards of the town got together to rid this man of his status once and for all. So, how did they think to do that? By sealing their soul into an inanimate object until the end of time, of course! Yohannes was sealed into a set of armor, thrown out into the forest, and promptly forgotten about. Their body decayed, rusted, overgrown, there was a chance they could have never moved again, but something sparked them to. A jolt of magic, barely enough for them to start to move again.
So, they did. Back to civilization, they were able to try to live again, no memory of what their past was. They were able to learn to harness this magic for themself, and perhaps even grow. Always, however, Silk felt empty. And now, their magic is weakening. Even a small bump is enough for the pieces of the armor to scatter, who knows what anything life threatening would do to it. All Silk wants to do is to strengthen the magic... or die, before they are unable to assemble back together, and are stuck, alive, and conscious, forever.
Backstory: Krem was always a bit of an oddity. You don’t see a giant bipedal turtle everyday. Despite this, Krem has made it his life-long goal to bring harmony and happiness wherever he went.
It all started when his home in the woods was destroy in a wildfire. Distraught, he begged for the spirits to come to his aid…and they answered. The spirits of the core elements helped him rebuild his home, and in exchange, the Tortle vowed to help maintain balance and harmony in the world. Since that day, he took various jobs: cook, healer, wilderness guide, sailor, etc.
His travels have now lead him to Heartwood, where he hopes to put his talent to good use as part of a group of adventurers.
Edar has been working in the Archive of Heartwood for years. Unlike others in his clan he seeks the knowledge of the ancient forces that Shaped Naka, and his library job gives him access to the whole library. Deep in the stacks one night he encountered an odd book that smelled of deep earth. Opening the book changed his life. Leaving the library with the book in his cloak he knew he could never return.
As he tried to sleep that night with his 10 brothers and sisters around him on the dirt floor of their one-room home, he envisioned himself not reading books of heroes past, but being in those books. Clutching the dirt smudged, cold, book to his chest he slowly gets up gathers a few items, takes one last look back at his family and walks through the leather flap into the night.
Oh well I have a Shark Character who may be able to fit in. The only homebrew aspect of him is just his appearance as I use a Triton or Sea Elf race stars for him.
Galeo Sharkel, a Rogue and a former Noble.
Having resided deep down in the ocean, Galeo was once a member of House Sharkel, the ruling Bloodline of the undersea capital city. Being brought up to one day take charge of their city and continue the Sharkel legacy, should his older two brothers fail of course. Being third in line to one day rule didn't appeal to Galeo, as a matter of fact, ruling over a city didn't appeal to him at all. He had no desire to be kept far from trouble and have everything given to him? Where's the thrill in that? How can he cause trouble if no one will question his judgement? He preferred to take things here and there, misplace them and cause a bit of harmless mischief. Afterall, he was the problem child among his many siblings.
Eventually the boundary was crossed, it was no prank gone too far or a prized possession that was stolen, it was leaving it behind. The plan was to sneak out with a fair bit of gold and items, head out to the overworld and live a life of his own, but his father was waiting for him and was full of disappointment. Despite being the problem child his father intended to have Galeo rule over when the time came to step down, Galeo was a trouble maker afterall, and when you rule over a city with corruption and hold plenty of trading routes in a Mafia-Like manner, a trouble maker is just what he needed, but not anymore.
He gave Galeo exactly what he wanted, by banishing his own son. Locking a cursed platinum collar around his neck then throwing him out onto the nearest ship with nothing to his name. The collar itself is cursed to him, unable to be removed as long as the curse remains, which will cannot be undone so easily. The curse is a rather simple one, Galeo can no longer breathe underwater, thus, assuring he could never return home, not easily. For a Sharkel who's raised in the depths of the sea, he will now have to learn a new way of living on land.
Do you have any more information on the world? Your campaign seems intriguing, and I’d love to have a bit more material to use to work on a backstory for a character concept.
Character Concept: A Centaur exiled for letting his desperation to become a "spirit hunter", like much of his tribesman despite lacking qualities to become one, led him to blood magic and stranger learnings taught to him by a "sympathetic" warlock(considered a witch by the locals) upon this discovery. And who has since sought out the adventuring life as a means of discovering either a way to undo the event, or failing that, simply live a life among those he figured might not look unkindly to his ways and abilities.
-So either a BloodHunter if given the exception, but if not, then with some slight reworking of the magic he'd tried to still leading to his exile, as it is the magic once used by an "old enemy" of his people. So think he'd start off as either a fighter or ranger, and gain the eventual subclass of Rune Knight or Swarm Keeper(or Monster Slayer). Just in the case of either or he'd been "cursed" in some way that denied access to the magic until at the appropriate level and having "found a way" around it.
Backstory:Still somewhat in development. ( ^ ^;)
But as far as rough draft goes for now, the centaur Xarig grew up among a nomadic tribe. A people who often attributed their form and their gifts with making connections lesser spirits and nature magic to be a power bestowed upon them by five greater spirits. Though the 'to what ends' have been lost to time with various other tribes having created their own tales regarding this history, and his own is no different, having taken on the mantle of stewards of the island, as their connection has allowed them to even call upon them to aid in its defense and daily hunts. Though events of recent decades have shaken this belief, as none among them were able to harness the power of spirits quite like Dash Dynoton.
Nonetheless, pride and self-denial has led the tribe to double down on their beliefs in their purpose, adding extra pressure on the youths of tribes. Youths such as Xarig, whose seeming inability to understand and commune quite like the others led to at worse derision, and at best encouragement from tribesman that only increased the weight of his guilt in failing to meet expectations. He was nothing if not determined, having gone so far as to explore beyond the comforts of the tribe's more traditional stomping grounds to visit a supposed Witch of the wilds for a solution. None was ever directly given as his pleas were found to be amusing at first. But with his persistence leading her sending him off on various quest over the years, the two gradually opened up to one another, and a friendship was form. She'd even go so far as to teach him of concoctions and some questionable magics he might employ to at least give the sense to his tribesman of having finally unlocked as a Spirit Hunter.
But the truth had come to light during an incident on a coming of age ceremony, leading to his being cursed and exiled from the tribe. And in not wanting to share what had happened with the witch, or even try to join other herds least he be further humiliated in being run off, he'd taken to seeking out other civilizations to at first simply eek out a living in whatever way he could. News eventually reached his ears about Heartwood and it being a home of adventurers. And with little else to loose and a longing for something more, Xarig scrapped together what he could and set out for the city in hopes of joining their ranks to seek out the impossible.
