I've been running a homebrew campaign I call "Heavy is the Head" for a little over a year now via discord/owlbear rodeo, and have been loving what my players and I are doing with that story, while also deeply enjoying expanding the setting, the lore, and the world that it's all happening in. It is a very classic "high fantasy" DnD setting, with a heavier focus on storytelling and roleplaying than on combat (though there is, of course, combat). I would like to try to run the same campaign from the start again, as a PbP; to explore the story from other angles and see how well the campaign holds up to different players and a different style of play.
Guidelines:
1. Aim to be able to make at least one post a day, on average. If you'll be AFK or just super busy for a few days, let me and the other players know. I am located in central Europe, so time zone will effect when I'll likely post.
2. Respect the other players and their choices - but also don't be a jerk. You aren't racists or homophobes, and your characters aren't either. (Though they may be products of a society prejudiced against certain playable/nonplayable races).
3. Players start at level 1, but level ups will come relatively frequently.
4. It's my first time running a PbP. Be patient as I figure out the best way to do it, as I'll be patient with you.
The Story:
The land is changing. Populations are shifting, new towns and cities are being built, roads between towns, mines and farms to serve them, and each new act of heroism by one is called evil by others. This continent is entering a new era of turmoil. The ancient Crown of Divine RIght, said to give divine authority to True Kings, has been lost for over a century, and how quickly does history fade to legend and myth.
The City of Springdawn has been expanding its reach, claiming sovereignty over all of the surrounding lands, and taking them either by force or by cunning. Silvia Strixwell, lord of Springdawn, will happily hire heroes and companies to aid in her conquests, protect her family, and solidify her rule. Just about everyone outside of the city and not in her employ wishes that she would back down or be deposed. Her enemies are not a united front, however, as they are frequently pushed into each other's lands and fight each other for resources.
Our story takes place in the isolated Silver Spring Valley - a region that Strixwell has recently aqcuired "legal" ownership of, although the residents of the valley do not recognize that claim. Strixwell has contracted the Hammerstone Mining Company to begin efforts to extract natural resources and prepare for the creation of permanent settlements.
The story begins at the HMC's recently built, dwarf-run, Coldwater Prison. Players have all been arrested and transported to the prison within the last few days. The dwarf prisoner Billy Beerbelly is trying to make friends, and gladly giving all the exposition he's aware of to the players. He's a great guy, Billy. Sure hope nothing bad happens to him.
To Join:
1. Send me a PM if interested. Describe why you want to join, what you like about DnD, and what your DnD experience level is. Newbies and experts and anywhere between are all welcome.
2. I would prefer for you to take one of the characters I have made and prepared (link here). There is a character for each playable class, ability scores are by standard array.
3. I'm looking for around 4-5 players, and will close recruiting there.
Thanks for your interest! I'm always honored to provoke debate, and appreciate the tension.
It's fun for me if players use a pre-made, as playing with character creation in Beyond has been a welcome.procrastination tool, but the primary reason I have a preference foe the characters I threw together is that I have a few clear ideas how each could be intertwined with the campaign's setting or lore. I'm also happy to help make that connection for an original, I just prefer making sure that beackstory is lore-compatable from day one. Totally self-created characters are also.OK ,,- ,I'll jjsf have to make sure they mAkrle sense in the world, and find some connections..
I think we've hit recruitment! If the five players I've written with all decide to stay in the campaign, then we're ready to go. I'm changing the tag now.

Yeah, I'm not interested in playing pre-mades either. Otherwise I might have considered it, because it sounds like a fun game with a great start.
