Kryinor will pick up the quarter staff testing its balance an measure.
Once he is sure the castle is secure he will start looking for and kind of meat or food and start piling it in the room outside the owlbears prison.
"I understand that some of you have reservations about letting such a powerful and oft dangerous predator loose, but every landscape must have an apex predator for there to be balance, he was already here before the goblins captured and tormented him, much like the wolves we found back in Klarg's hidout.......
No doubt this owlbear will have a certain hatred for goblins, worgs and bugbears now, if it hasnt been driven completely insane by its captors, I believe it deserves a chance to show if it is truly a lost cause.
I am proposing that the rest of you stand ready in Grolls throne room door closed and braced. I will open the door to the owlbears prison and then retreat and stand in the northwestern corner of the Hobs barracks, with the food between myself and him. If he attacks me unprovoked then I can concede that his suffering need come to an end, at the sound of a wolfs howl, you all rush out and we end his suffering together, but if he does not attack and instead seeks freedom and the safety of his home, has he not shown that his more than just a reckless monstrosity that needs to be slain at the tip of a blade?
"We will need to make sure the path is clear for him to retreat" Kryinor will tear down any curtains and keep any doors between the owlbear and the south and north entrances wedged open.
OOC: I will need to take a short rest before opening the door.....
"far be it for me to intercede in your Druidic practices friend. If you wish to see if the owlbear can be freed then so it shall be as far as I am concerned. Better it be gone from here so I can look in al room to find the secret dungeon entrance! There is always one in human castles isn't there?"
"A misshapen abomination created by a mad wizard is hardly nature's own but so be it, good druid. Mayhap it will decide to feast on goblin flesh for a ..."
"Rather than face the angry beast, I can use ropes to pull out the last wedge holding the door, and another rope to open the door from a safe distance. Then the beastie can follow the trail of meat oot the castle"
In a some short amount of time Kargan and Kryinor work together to prepare a path to freedom for the abused and captive Owlbear. During this time Titus, Zaxx,Mr Skittles, Eedim, Breccha, and Gundren all reacquaint or introduce themselves and catch up on the last weeks events.
Gundren seems to be gaining strength by the moment, and looks to ready to move soon. He thanks to assembled company profusely, and inquires after his Friend Sildar.
The release plan goes well and the Owlbear with some growling and aborted attempts eventually makes its way clear to the forest on the northern side of the ruined castle. Keen observers note that it seems to sniff around for a while and picks up a scent that sends it running north and east after the fleeing hobgoblins.
Caslte Cragmaw, for the time being, is empty of enemies. King Groll is dead and his forces in disarray and full rout.
OOC: The field is yours brave adventurers! You can search to your heats content. Let me know where you want to look and roll some perception and investigation checks, and any other checks you would like, just let me know why and what your intending with them :)
Titus will systematically search from the throne room to through the castle looking for nook and crannies under and around fixtures looking for loot and along floors and walls for secret passages and his missing human dungeon!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Haha, I think those goblins are in for a nasty surprise tonight....."
Once the owlbear disappears into the brush KRiynor will go to its prison and ensure that nothing else is in there. Specifically looking for living creatures or the remnants of anything unfortunate to be stuck in there with a hungry owlbear.
Perception: 18
Once he is finished looking around he will help gathering all the weapons, any fully metal items he will only touch through a piece of cloth.
"Zaxx would you be so kind as to sweep the castle for any magical auras?"
"Aye, 'tis grand to see you well gundren, we feared the worst, but I knew if anyone could survive the grobbi, it would be you" "Did ye overhear any o' their plans? There seems to be an overlord directing the grobbi scum hereaboots, we have run into a few o' them whilst searchin' for ye "
Titus begins to conduct a thorough and methodical search of the ruined castle, sure in his bones that some secret Human wizardly mischief will be found. Whilst searching he mulls over the history of the area and what he has learned recently in their adventures, trying to place the ruins in the geography and lore of this part of Fearun.
As best as he can fathom, form his investigations with the recovered maps, the book of Urmon, speaking with the locals, and bit and pieces of Elven lore of this area is...
This part of Fearun was linked with the old Phandelver pact. Clans of Dwarves all agreed to share the Caves in the sword mountains for their riches. Later allying with mages the forge of spells was built, and the nearby Human town of Phandalin became part of the agreement. For a time all prospered, but such is the way of the world it was all destroyed by an invading Orc horde in league with evil magic users.
This all took place about 500 years ago.
Castle Cragmaw in his estimation predates that by about another 300 or 400 years and is part of the Fallen Kingdom. Which in the memory of his people was a huge alliance between, Elves, Dwarves, Men, and Halflings.
It in turn fell to a huge horde of Goblinoids from the wastes.
Kryinor moves into the tower that had confined the Owlbear. He finds the remains of many creatures. Animals, and Humanoids, some Goblin-like , some Human, an one Dwarven. There is also much in the way of rubble, destroyed furniture, and Owlbear poop. High on a ledge that must have been part of the floor above he spies a chest.
The chest is unlocked and contains 90 ep, 120 gp, a potion of healing, a scroll of silence, and a scroll of revivify.
Kargan and Gundren speak. "Twas a near thing I tell ye. These goblins are poor hosts. I'm mighty parched and could do with a good rest." He sighs heavily, "But there's no time for that I reckon, they are devilish keen on finding the cave, and have had a good look at my map." He frowns, "Have any of ye found it yet, did they get away with it, have you look at it? I'm set on having it in my hands lest it slip out of reach again. My brothers will need us and our help, and right quick, if the talk of these creatures is to be believed."
"As far as their plans go, I think they know of some powerful weapon hidden in the cave and they want it for their own. Knowing some of the history of the Forge of Spells, something that powerful cannot fall into the wrong hands!" He frowns again and grumbles into his beard, "I must have that map and speak with any who have laid eyes on it. Its knowledge too dangerous to share and we need to keep it safe!"
Titus while moving and searching the ruins is disappointed to find no secret doors or stairs in the Owlbear tower, but in searching through the old banquet hall his hard work and suspicions are rewarded. In the East wall of the hall is a large hearth, rubble obscures much of it, but just enough remains in view to let his keen elf eyes see an irregularity in the stone work and dimensions.
He suspects that this is no ordinary Fire place...
" Ha Ha! I knew a secret was to be found! Alas Daenyr! you were always right my old friend, these humans cannot make up their minds. always building above and below never picking one realm and mastering it."
Titus then start moving the rubble away so that he can better assess the fireplace. If anyone comes in whilst he's at work
"Ha! come come! lend a hand friend! there's something untoward in this hearth. There is a passage here I'm sure."
Kryinor will take the chest back to the main group in the throne room. putting it up on the table for the others to do with it what they will. "This ought to cheer Titus up"
Kryinor will then go in search of Kargan, Gundren and Breecha to tell them of his grim discovery in the owlbears pit and his plans to bury the bodies outside the castle.
If the dwarves have there own customs or would like to bury there own fallen comrade Kryinor will merely show them where the body is before moving the human remains outside.
"... and you must find the Forge of Spells, young Zaxx ... Zaxx! Are you paying attention?!"
Zaxx snaps out of his reverie.
"Wait! So the Forge IS here!? I knew it!" shouts the mage excitedly.
"Uh, errr ... my apologies, my friends. But I am heartened to hear that my quest may be nearing an end. For now, though, if you perhaps have items you have found feel free to pile them here."
Zaxx wanders over to where Titus is and pulls out his spell book to start performing a Detect Magic ritual.
"Oh, and Titus. You may interested to see this."
Titus retrieves the statuette from his sleeve and places it on the ground and starts drawing a large circle of magic around it.
Well my young wizardling that’s a fine statue you have there. I suggest that you detect magic on all the found items though. That club of grills at least is magical with all its black smoke and speed. Get the others to bring all the gear in here for you. I have to uncover this hearth first to see what’s hidden behind. Could be the passage you’d seek eh?
As Titus works slowly and carefully to clear out the hearth in the dining hall he is sure the dimensions of the structure are, wrong somehow. The hearth seems too high, too wide, and too deep for a room of this size. As the rubble clears away he can see a very faint outline of what might be a panel or door of some kind. Some dust also falls away form what looks like faint, worn, spidery runes...

“See! Mention hidden passages around humans and castles they go all secretive! Get the owlbear out then let’s find the human dungeon. “
