... this approach sounds like a fantastic way to create a party with backstories that hook into that story. Much more flexible than just using pre-generated characters, and it makes more sense to me than trying to shoehorn a bunch of random characters that players bring to the game into your story.
I agree. Clarity is also needed for the roles, eg is the relationship an arranged marriage so the betrothed don't love each other, or a betrothal that goes against tradition thus the wide support for civil war. Is a princess betrothed to a princess possible? And similar clarification for the other roles.
And I'm sure those things will all be addressed when AmazingAmazon posts an actually *recruitment* thread. Also note that those were examples of what this style of set up *might* look like.
Taking a pretty adversarial stance with the potential DM for someone who is hoping to get into a campaign. Not trying to be harsh, just want to point out how it sounds on the other end so you can have better luck on recruitment threads.

No point whatsoever in applying for something only to be shot down. Or in winning a spot only to find I'm not a match. Just saying be open, be clear, let us know what to expect & what's expected. Not meant to be offensive.
The thing is that nothing you've said is inherently offensive and would actually be really helpful in the proper context.
Think about it this way. You see your doctor and they ask you how you're doing. You give them a detailed description of some embarrassing digestive issues you've been having.
Great thing to do in the examination room.
Not so much in the aisle of a grocery store.
Terrible idea in the lobby of a restaurant.
Context matters. This is an interest thread, not a recruitment. That's all I'm saying.
Sorry, I'm not sure why your difficulty with that is bothering me so much. It is admittedly none of my business. I'll say no more on the issue.
Please don't, especially on my account, I am literally nobody to you. Clearly you and I share an insurmountable communications barrier. I apologize, sincerely, I am very sorry that I have caused you any irritation. I should have kept my thoughts to myself.

Thanks for everyone's time and suggestions.

Ok. I'll withdraw my interest.

Thank you for your interest! This is the campaign I was thinking about running.
