Is there any interest in a game based on set adaptable backstories for PCs but you choose the class? The species would be flexible too but within a focused group of core species in 5e?
Example:
Your PC is the heir apparent to a kingdom with a sick monarch parent. Their parent, the current monarch, could possibly die at any moment. Your PC's ascension to the throne is being challenged by a sibling and your kingdom is on the brink of civil war.
Your PC is a junior spymaster within afore mentioned kingdom on the brink of civil war.
Your PC is the betrothed future spouse of the embattled future monarch.
Your PC is a junior emissary traveling with the betrothed.
Other cast of PC possible.
You'll build the PC yourself but the mentioned set elements have to greatly influence your backstory and game play.
Starting Level? Character generation? (die rolling or point buy?)
How much leeway do we have? Prince or princess? Standard black & white "Heroic!", or shades of gray?
Why is civil war a threat? Relatives want to take the throne? State church doesn't approve over character religion? Citizens don't approve of betrothed's race or gender?
I like this idea because I hate using pregenerated characters. This feels like it would give all of the narrative advantages but still leave a lot of room for player choice.
Really trying to figure out how I can make this work with my schedule if you decide to run a campaign like this🤔
I'm pretty sure at this point it's more of a "would people actually be interested in a campaign with pregenerated backgrounds/roles?" query, not a "here is the campaign I'm recruiting for" thread.

Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
I'm an apostrophe I'm just a symbol to remind you that there's more to see I'm just a product of the system, a catastrophe And yet a masterpiece, and yet I'm half-diseased And when I am deceased At least I go down to the grave and die happily
Yes, very interested, depending on posting frequency, expectations...
Expectations would be one substantial post a day during the week with more relaxed posts on weekends. Would need mostly the same timezones and if there's initiative everyone committed to checking more often to make combat quick and easy not take a month to complete!
I love this idea! Unfortunately I have too many commitments at the moment to join but I look forward to seeing how this plays out!
Same!
I cannot participate, but if you (the DM) have a homebrew campaign with a specific story in mind, this approach sounds like a fantastic way to create a party with backstories that hook into that story. Much more flexible than just using pre-generated characters, and it makes more sense to me than trying to shoehorn a bunch of random characters that players bring to the game into your story.

I agree. Clarity is also needed for the roles, eg is the relationship an arranged marriage so the betrothed don't love each other, or a betrothal that goes against tradition thus the wide support for civil war. Is a princess betrothed to a princess possible? And similar clarification for the other roles.

Is it a Body Guard and/or Advisor to the queen in waiting? Should they built to defend or anticipate political trouble?
As the others have asked, what level would you like them starting? Let me know what the features of the background are.

Willing to discuss other roles as mentioned. This sussing out particulars in the over arching story.
Not sure on levels. Not sure about specifics in set backgrounds just a general overview.

Thanks y'all. Might post the campaign requirement this weekend/following week.
