Lilaea unfurls from herself, raising a hand to pat as high up Adonis's arm as she can reach in silent support of his words. Following the Goliath's lead, she too makes a point of avoiding Gaius's gaze, instead taking a large swig of her drink - a simple glass of water.
The Goliath's words and continued refusal to face him infuriates Gaius to greater heights, his hands balled into fists now and the rest of his face beginning to flush. Without looking he points a finger back at Tobias, "Another word from you I'll have that silver tongue of yours on a platter." He takes another step towards Adonis now, gripping his arm. "I will go back and tell them I met the coward Adonis today, and beat him within an inch of his miserable life for his insolence." Gaius hisses, pulling back in an attempt to rip Adonis from his seat.
Adonis is jerked from his seat and hits the floor, but makes it a point to keep his face turned away from Gaius the whole time, staring anywhere but the man.
"You do what you feel you must. And I will do what I feel I must."
Caliadna will have certainly inched out of the way as Gaius approached the group in a huff, her eyes darting to and fro from Adonis and the commander. There's a spark in her eye as she watches, careful to keep her wings still folded around her form as she does.
(Watch this be the only good roll I make for the next 5 interactions rip)
While Caliadna had taken it upon herself to slightly distance herself from the quarrel currently occurring – after all Adonis certainly looked like he could handle himself – the sight of Adonis on the ground and a raised fist immediately kicks her temper into high gear. How dare this oaf of a man threaten her new found companions, with his vicious words and brazen actions – not a care in the world of the oncoming threat that had resulted in such important matters to be placed on their shoulders.
A scowl graced Caliadna's wild features, the red markings on her face highlighting the prominence of her canines. She should not have expected any better from such a devote member of Sydon. Cruel as their titan, the lot of them were. But Caliadna was no fool, an act of violence against the commander meant death. And yet she could not stand idlely anymore to watch the scene before her unfold, she did not have the temperament for such.
And with a pitched sound of talons scraping across wood, auburn feathers cutting through the tavern's warm glow, Caliadna had swiftly launched herself forward to where Adonis had hit the floor. Wings swiftly unfurl from her back to their full length, intentionally knocking into the incoming fist from Gaius with great force – enough to make any regular man stumble back a few steps.
Blinking down at Adornis with mild concern firstly, offering a helping hand up, before glancing about and offering any of her new companions a quick apology had they been hit by her wings, Caliadna finally looks over her shoulder at Gaius with barely concealed contempt.
"I am not as familiar with such social settings, but frankly I'm quite sure that this kind of behavior isn't acceptable in an inn." She sniffs, "And at the very least, if you had wanted to provoke violence, you'd be a little faster at it."
(Not necessarily a string of insults but hopefully qualifies for Action: Vicious Mockery, WIS 14 save, Dmg: 1)
Gaius stumbles back a step as the siren leaps into action in a whirlwind of feathers, her magic takes hold, and the commander is seen putting a hand to his temple. "You would curse me you witch!?" He asks incredulously.
Adonis lunges up from the floor, throwing himself between Caliadna and Gaius. He still doesn't look at the Captain, but he does look at Caliadna as he tries to stop the situation from escalating.
"Don't." He says to her, his jaw clenching. His body becomes a ball of tightly wound, corded muscle as he imposing form separates the two of them. "No more, please. We don't want any trouble. You've proven I'm a coward. That's enough. The lady is just protecting a coward the best way she knows how. Please stop."
Ruby gasps in horror as it looks like their adventure is about to end before it begins... or at least, Adonis is about to end before their adventure begins. She quickly casts Armor of Agathys to give herself a little bit of protection in case the mean man is enough of a bastard to start beating on a cowering kobold, and then also throws herself in front of the scary man just like Adonis did.
"Please, leave us be!" she begs. "Your point has been made, that we are pathetic and useless, yes? What more do you want to show the good patrons of this place that you have not shown them already?"
Lilaea stands, a graceful presence by Caliadna's side, her hand gently resting on the other woman’s shoulder in a soothing gesture. There is a flicker of determination in her eyes as she joins the Siren in glaring at the Commander, her previous resolution of ignoring him long forgotten.
"That is enough. Leave us be." she echoes firmly. Her quiet voice is calm, but her clenched fist and its white knuckles serve as testament to the anger simmering beneath her composed exterior.
