Caliadna is up bright and early the following morning, leaving the inn just after dawn to get in a quick wing stretch before returning to meet with the rest of the group. She follows in just after Lyssa and Javon, giving them a slight nod in greeting as they move around Kyrah to settle down.
"I suppose we better make haste then." The siren comments, eyes tracking the rest of the group as they move to prepare. She stands when Adonis makes a move toward the door.
"I will be outside as well. With the rest of you walking I think it would benefit me to stretch my wings in the air for a bit more before becoming ground-bound." She dips her head and shuffles off after Adonis, out the door.
After Tobias purchases his cooking utensils, Kyrah motions for the hunters to lead the way. The trip to the river itself is short, less than a half hour's walk from the inn - there's no formal docks, rather their boat has been hidden in the woods under some brush next to the river. After uncovering it and placing it in the river, they wordlessly wave everyone on. It's not a very large riverboat. Big enough to hold all of you, but there isn't much wiggle room.
A few minutes after your river journey has begun, the man called Javon speaks. "It has made its lair in a cave located within the hills. The beast makes no attempt to hide its presence, the trail of destruction and discarded corpses is easy to follow." A pause. "You will be very brave if you intend to face it."
Tobias positions himself just behind the hunters as they make their way of foot to the riverboat, and helps to place it on the river once there. Not that he is particularly strong, but he is well used to mucking in. When aboard, and talk turns to their quarry, he listens intently.
"So it doesn't attack for food, as we suspected", he says firstly. "Did you watch it for any length of time once you found it? Does it patrol an area? Have a set routine? Does it hunt or merely kill what it comes across?", he asks.
As the boat moves along the river, he maintains his eyes on the river's banks, keeping a lookout for anything that might prove a danger. Every so often his gaze shifts to the sky as well.
"What kind of trail of destruction are we talking about here?" Adonis says as he hooks his feet into the seating beneath him and grabs an oar. "I want to make sure I understand what we're getting into here. I understand that it's dangerous. Tell me, what else has it destroyed, other than lives?"
He listens to Tobias's questions and nods.
"Very good questions, Tobias. You're a natural hunter." He offers.
Ruby huddles near the back of the boat.... but as the beast's lair and behavior are explained, the little kobold gets an idea.
"If we know where its cave is... maybe we could set up a spike trap in the entrance of the cave while it's asleep and then... and then provoke it to charge into the spikes...?" Ruby says hesitantly, not sure if her suggestion is a good one or not.
Kal does his best to secure a location near the edge of the boat, listening to the others speak. The suggestion of a trap spurs him to join the discussion, "that's actually a pretty good plan I think. Hopefully this thing actually sleeps."
