Also,I forgot to ask: since you won't be able to take any official mission until the next day, both Deva and Val would get to see the messages. What quest do they want to go on?
"I think we should check on Romel "says Valwarin at the next day when he returns from the woods and read the notes left by Katherinne. " I fear that this has to be with that fallen paladin and the Affectus Uti he is determined to spread... "
(2,500gp per person and some hyjinks along the coast... or an issue possibly along the same lines as the previous one with the disease... AND THEN, the bad playwright(more of an interest to Deva than others probably, but still!)... You are a devilish bastard, DM. I approve!)
Devarus takes the seat with only token resistance, and would later smirk. "A 'bit' is putting it mildly. And the things we saw... Even seen some bad things even as a guard over the years. But none of it could compare to that first outing. There were Civs captured by these... I hesitate to even call them Orcs anymore. The torturing... the deformities..."His frown deepens as the words trail off. Until he had a cup of tea at least in hand, Devarus just couldn't bring himself to say more for a while.
"... There someone out there mother using Forbidden Magic. ... a fortis Ulti? No... Altius.. No,no... Afectus Ulti. We weren't able to uncover the full details about what happened. Only that some Orcs were deceived into some mad experiement into it that warped them. Created a two-fold tragedy in Milstrom. And then, there was this... warrior too."He shakes his head. "I-... I'm sorry, Mother. This.. I did not mean -- I didn't come expect to deliver only gloom and doom. In fact, I heard a few interesting rumors. Figured maybe we could check them out with the team they assigned me." He goes on to detail the rumors about the elven ruins, embellishing some details along the way, if only to help push past darkness of previous topics. "It would not be soon... soon, but I thought... maybe? Now that I'm at least a little unmoored to Sydril. Just kind of figured..."He trails off there, cheeks darkening in embarrassment.
Whenever Dev is eventually informed about the missions, he just nods in agreement with Valwarin. But otherwise, he isn't all there at the time, still deep in thought over recent dealings in town.

No matter, how old the child is or how young by elf standards the mother is, a child will always be a child to the mother. Selene senses Deva's worry and gives him a comforting hug. She says, "It sounds like your last experience was a traumatic one. Are you sure this adventuring business is for you? Maybe you can retire early because this new line of work... it sounds dangerous. Perhaps we could find some other work. Something that would make the world a better place. We can work together for such a goal. It would definitely be safer than this Affectus Uti you're talking about." When Deva mentions the rumors of the elven ruins he heard, Selene says, "My son, the rumor about the well in Aros is no rumor. That is the entrance to the city I grew up in. I'm don't believe I've told you exactly how your father came to the city. There was a heavy storm in the surface world that day. Blinded by the rain and pushed by the wind, he lost his footing in the mud and fell down the well. It was a miracle he survived the fall. Luckily, I happened to pass by him at that time and I took him home to be treated." She sighs and says with a slight touch of regret in her voice, "After that it all seemed to spiral out from there. Things happened so fast and before I knew it, I was out in the rain with your father, traveling the surface lands."
Present: Well looks like it's 2 votes for Cosmer and 2 votes for Romel. Someone should take a decision.
(OOC: OH! I just figured out how the horizontal line works!)
(The Legendary Double Beared Axe called... The DOUBLE BEARED AXE, First of its kind.)
Tension Devarus had not known melts from his shoulders at the contact. There was far safer work, he knew. And having gone on at least one adventure, he fulfilled the terms of the bet that led to it. As if given not enough to be pensive over, the bombshell after made him turn in seat, and stare wide-eyed at his mother. For a few seconds after, he looks at her search for... something. Selene would recognize the look as similar ones held after she calmed following and about the departure of his father. Questions about why the job was so important as to leave them.
But just like before, he fights back putting words to them, noting the regret in her voice. "... And it was on to a new adventures."He weakly smiles. "Important ones, even if it doesn't seem like it at first. And not all of them were all bad." The smile falters as he tries to take Selene's hands. "Mother... I'm terrified."He admits, eyes growing teary-eyed without crying outright. "I don't think I've ever been more so over this past century... But I can no more turn a blind eye to what I've seen than we can go back to how things were. Maybe we make things better doing something else, but... until this whole Affectus Ulti is settled at least, I don't think I can do it."
Next day stuff:
Devarus starts to come out of his shell in slow recognition of the division of wishes. He looks around for a map first, and asks later of the group for one if none are found. "I still say we should check out Romel, but... do we have a reliable means of taking care of the disease? Or might we be in need of something more to at least mitigate it?"He asks of group.
(Dev's goal is two-fold to see if there is at least SOME wiggle room. How far away is Romel from Cosmer, Zulk? I know one is landlocked, but if there's a chance of getting from one to the other by horse within say few days at least... It's a stretch, but thought I asked if it wasn't already.)
(Secondly, when we were in Cosmer last and Dev was asking around, did he see a lot of merc's already beginning to gather there for the job?)

Well, Romel and Cosmer from Sydil are a bit out of the way but it is possible for you to get to Cosmer from Romel in a matter of days. As for other mercs, no they weren't gathering. Mercs who aren't affiliated with the Guild tend to break laws in their line of work (laws that don't apply to Guild members) so they aren't exactly eager to met up with the coast guard. As for how to combat disease, you figure it out. I will just say that Plague Doctors are known to be unparalleled when it comes to combating diseases and microbes.
Selene nods slowly. "I guess when there's something you have to do, it's just what you have to do. Be careful okay? I fear you are caught in something deep."
"Aren't I always?"Devarus smiles crookedly back. He then hugs her again tightly and says, "I /will/ always come back, Mother. I promise. No matter what, I will."He affirms.
After:
"From the looks of it, it is risky, but it does not wholly seem impossible to do both. Forgive my callousness, but Romel is largely a scouting mission by the looks of things. If we can quickly reestablish a means of reporting back to the guild from there -- perhaps even link with the Plague Doctor sent in -- we can then move on to Cosmer after delivering preliminary findings. A-assuming it is even allowed to accept two missions, it will be a tight schedule to keep." Devarus looks to the others for confirmation. "Otherwise... Both are going to be out of way regardless, so it would behoove us to at least try to look into the greater matter of Romel."
He pauses to let the words sink before confessing, "I... Judging by how the previous went towards the end, I.. cannot say I am confident of our abilities to ward off a genuine epidemic if the Plague Doctor already sent is having trouble."He confesses. "So in the interest of acquiring funds, and perhaps some measure of support in the effort for the sake preparedness, I am at least willing to concede on focusing on Cosmer."

"Thing is. I don't think he would know what is facing. What I fear is that the plague doctor is no facing a disease, but the mutating effects of Affectus Uti. For that there is no knowledge. We know almost nothing about it and could be consider ourselves experts on it compare to most of the sages of our time. But we do know one thing. Time is of the essence, if we delay our going then it could be too late as it was with the orcs, but for the notes we gathered we know that such a mutation requires time, and perhaps it could be reversed on its early states. I will go with the party, of course, but I would prefer not to linger in going there."
Gendan begrudgingly agrees that the party should deal with affectus uti, but she fingers the few coins left in her pouch after her shield purchase, and says, “Okay, let’s do the ‘good’ thing this time, but next time let’s seek a better payday.” (Yes, she used air-quotes when she said, “good.”)

As the party discusses which mission to take in the morning and finally decides to go to Romel, Catherine hears Deva asking about taking two missions at once. Catherine says, "Sorry but taking more than one mission at a time is against the rules unless you split up." She then smirks and says, "But there is a loophole that both I and Horace is aware of and have no complaints if you exploit. To complete a mission officially a report has to be submitted. To take a new mission, a form has to be filled. However, there is nothing saying that you need to be in Sydil to do this. By using the Insta-mail service which the Guild members can use for free unless they send over documents or parcels, you can hand in the mission report and take a new mission in about an hour without even having to come to Sydil. It will cost you 3 GP for the proceedings but I'm pretty sure you'll have made more than 3GP from the mission itself so it's not really expensive in the grand scheme of things." Catherine then yawns really loudly and says, "~~Alright I'll just fill in the form and... you're good to go on the Romel mission."
