"Ah let's be off, I doubt we'll fine the girl waiting here." Thulewyn looks at Mary. "We have done a wee bit of damaged to your front door. So ah, any chance you know someone you trust to come fix it?" Staring at the ones who broke it down, "I'm sure my colleagues wouldn't mine reimbursing you for the cost." Making his way outside to wait for the others to join, the poor mother didn't need to hear them make plans that didn't revolve around looking for the kid. "Alright, looking for adventure and fun, where would a kid go? Best start at the tavern."
It will cost about 1gp for time and materials to fix the front door. If you wish to leave this behind, Mary likely would appreciate the kind gesture.
Janek nods. "Tavern sounds good. Can ask about both the girl and Vistani. Shall we get going?"
The local Tavern is on the main square, only a very short way from here. You passed through the square earlier and observed the sign on the tavern to read "Blood on the Vine" tavern. The building is relatively large, perhaps 60 feet square and looked like it was once quite finely appointed but has has grown shoddy over the years.
Celeste nods and smiles to Janek and Thulewyn about heading over to the fairly ominous-sounding Blood on the Vine tavern, but as the dwarf brings up the broken door she blushes and turns to Mary. "I'm so sorry but as we heard you we thought you could be in imminent danger, take this as payment for repairs on your front door." The blonde elven maiden says a bit awkwardly, handing the mother a piece of gold from her purse.
As the companions reach the Blood on the Vine tavern, Celeste hesitates briefly before stepping inside, looking for the bar to get a room, a drink and hopefully also some information.
You make your way across the square to the Tavern. Although the building looks a little run-down, the inside is lit and looks quite welcoming compared to the rest of what you have seen of the village and area.
As you step inside, you find a lazing fire in the hearth which gives scant warmth to the few huddled souls within, mostly sat in groups around the tables. The barkeep stands behind the counter polishing glasses. As you enter, he eyes you up in the way of barkeeps across the multiverse, immediately marking you as outsiders and trying to estimate what prices he could get away with charging you.
The bar has a somewhat subdued and forlorn atmosphere. Everyone has a drink, mostly jugs of beer, but it seems that everyone is drinking by themselves - even those sitting in groups.
One patron of the bar stands out from the crowd and sits alone at a small table by the hearth. He looks better dressed, and is drinking a glass of wine. Compared to the rest of the inhabitants you have met so far, he seems positively cheerful - although objectively he only seems less somber.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Walking into the tavern, somewhat cautiously, only too aware of how she even more than her companions will probably stand out in this tavern, the blonde elven maiden gathers courage and approaches the barkeep while glancing over at the man by the hearth.
insight to possibly determine anything about him: 18
"Excuse me, I, together with these gentlemen..." She starts addressing the barkeep in a warm melodious voice while motioning to her new companions behind her. "...find ourselves lost. We have travelled far and would want food and drink, and later possibly rooms for the night." She says, laying her purse of gold on the bar counter. "I'll start with a glass of wine myself. Also, if you'd happen to know anything about the whereabouts of this young woman? I suppose you know her considering she lives next door." She finishes with showing the barkeep the picture of Gertruda.
Rodan's face scowls as the others relate to him the sobbing woman's tale of her lost daughter. He looks around at the quiet, mist shrouded streets of the village.
"What's she done to find her daughter, then, eh? Has she never gone askin' the neighbors for a hand or somethin'? Raised a search crew, maybe? I mean, even in a gloomy town like this, folks usually stick their noses into others' business, they'd surely rally over a lost lass?"
"Or has she been holed up in her house, wallowin' in her own misery, instead of gettin' off her backside and lookin' around?"
He kicks at a rock in the street and rubs the back of his head. "Ah, what's my use in moanin' about it? The kid's done a vanishing act, and there ain't a tail to chase. It's lookin' like a long shot that we'll be of any use 'round here, ain't it?"
He follows the others to the tavern and steps inside, lingering near the door and casting a suspicious look at each of the patrons.

The barkeep eyes your gold greedily, and would be happy to sell you a round of drinks. "Wine is 5 silver pieces for a glass, Beer 2 silver each" he says gruffly.
He looks at the picture you show her. "Ah yes, that'll be Mad Mary's daughter. I met her a few times when I visited Mary. Her mother keeps her at home you know. A bit mad that one." He looks at your gold and thinks for a second before adding "You know, if you wanted to find this young lady I think your best start would be to talk to her mother Mary. If you have a few silver pieces to refresh my memory perhaps I could tell you where she lives."

"Thank you but we have alredy visited her mother, who seemed quite lucid although clearly in distress, which would be understandable with the missing daughter I think. Unless you can think of anyone else who might know where to find her I'll settle for a glass of your wine please." The blonde elven maiden says and hands the barkeep 5 pieces of silver.

(Did Celeste find anything out about the man by the hearth?)
You look at the man by the hearth. He looks youngish, perhaps near 30 years old, and well dressed and looks well looked after - likely from a well-to-do background. He wears nice clothing, the type a merchant might have, with a vest if hardened leather for protection. On his hip you notice a shortsword, which he is making no efforts to hide. He has a sort of easy confidence like someone used to being in charge, and has bright intelligent eyes that take in you and your group.
He notices your looks and examination of him. He stands up, gives a slight but polite bow, and says "Welcome to Barovia, strangers. My fellows here might not seem to hospitable, but do not let that put you off. Please, come join me by the fire." With this, he indicates a few empty chairs with a gesture.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Somewhat surprised at the unexpected offer, the blonde elven maiden bows quite gracefully . "Thank you young man, you are very gracious to invite us to sit with you."She says with a warm and melodious voice, bringing her glass of red wine over to one of the chairs by the hearth, motioning for her companions to join them. "I am Celeste, and these brave gentlemen are my travelling companions."She says as she takes her seat. "I must admit we don't know how we ended up in your village, there was a mysterious fog. Perhaps you know something about this fog, and how we could find the Vistani who we have heard travels through it." She says with a warm smile, taking a sip of her red wine.

Thulewyn looks at the barkeep with almost a snarl on his lips, "Aye, it's a real steal if you ask me. Since ye bein' so generous how about 4 gold for 2 bottles and meals for me crew?" And lays the 4 gold coins on the bar. Thulewyn knew this was highway robbery, but the man's just trying to make a living like everyone else and they still had a long journey ahead of them.

The barkeep looks at the coins, nods, and says
"Alright. Fair is fair. Your drinks and food will be right up."
While he gets your food and drink, he tells you about Mad Mary.
"Ah yes. Well, we call her that because she's ... well ... Mad.
She's got all these theories you see. Like that we're all doomed in this little valley, that it all keeps repeating, that her daughter is in peril, and so on. She doesn't come for a drink here often, but after a pint or two she really gets going.
She keeps that poor lass locked up in that house of hers you know. Can't be healthy for a young girl. She probably doesn't know anything about the outside world. Or at least not the real world, beyond what she'd have been told in fairy tales."

It's early afternoon. The two inside the Death house rested overnight and then explored the rest of the house before escaping. The newcomers were captured/diverted by the fog overnight and arrived late morning. The escape and aftermath took a bit of time, and then you explored the village a little and met Mary.
None of you had lunch yet so are feeling quite hungry and are looking forward to the meal Thulewyn has ordered.
"Sounds like a smart lass to me. Any ideas who might take in a youngen' like that or where she might possibly want to go in this... lively place? I don't see her here so she thinks differently then I at her age." He smirks for a minute thinking of another type of place he would have tried to visited as youngdwarfing. Realizing that unfortunately that is a place that woukd take in young girls who don't have anywhere else to go, the smile leaves his face. "There wouldn't be any brothels or ladies of the night establishments in town, would there?". A tinge of worry creeping into his voice as he asks that last bit.
Nicholas rubs the back of his head, growing silent as he considers the words of this group - encouraging him to see the need for helping this woman find her daughter, and the people of this town in general. Thulewyn's nudging in particular gets to him. His family were monster hunters, and then they all became monster food. He still didn't know what hunted them so, but it had occupied so much of his mind for so long that he'd perhaps forgotten himself.
The others were right, they needed to help these people. Even if meant eventually running afoul of some vampire lord.
He's content to let the others talk with the locals with for now, following Celeste over to the hearth, eager to hear if this man could tell them about the Vistani.
