For me, the benefit of PbP is the ability to get more detailed and immersive with descriptions, so I’d be looking for players who want to engage through writing and want do more than post their action and a roll. I want people who are comfortable describing how they feel inside their armor when the mists roll in and the undead shamble toward them. I want people who describe what their spell looks like when they cast it. People who want to share their character’s inner feelings as they face horrifying things and come to the realization they are trapped by an insane and ultra-powerful monster.
If that sounds like your jam, drop me an application.

Why is this a good character for this campaign?
To keep the focus on role-playing versus roll-playing, I’m going to restrict class and race to PHB only. I’m open to interesting reinterpretations of what’s in there (cosmetic reskins versus mechanical changes).
All characters will be starting at level 3 with standard gear
Standard array for stats (no rolling, no point buy) - I will take into consideration how you place your stats to fit the personality versus min/maxing
We will be using Feats
Multi-classing is allowed
I’m going to accept 6 players. I’ll take applications through midnight CST on Thursday 8/10. I’ll make decisions and send announcements on 8/11.
Class and race, sure, but is anything else restricted to PHB? Subclass, optional features, spells, custom origins, backgrounds, anything else I'm not thinking of? Also, will it be in space?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Fair point of clarification. Class, race, subclass from PHB. No optional class features. No custom backgrounds. I’ll consider backgrounds, spells, and feats from official sources. Basically, don’t focus so much on the rules at this point. Give me an interesting character. If you can’t do that with the material in the PHB, this might not be the right game for you.
This will generally be a RAW Curse of Strahd campaign (might do the space one later).

playing Jin Wei, human (Kara-tur) way of the Four Elements Monk in the Princes of the Apocalypse
Personality: Nagrax is, for lack of a better term, a try-hard cleric. He means well but often finds himself being more of a hinderance than a help. This is further exacerbated by his lack of experience with the outside world and a propensity to say right thing at the wrong time or just flat out wrong. Bless his heart.
Biggest Fear: Failing friends and those in need. Not being enough for everyone.
Three Interesting Details About Them: 1) They were abandoned at a temple as a baby. 2) Their breath weapon is (almost) always accidental. 3) Their scales are actually quite varied, leading some to mockingly call them "rainbow"
Appearance (including Dress): All of his clothes are a little on the small side, including his dark colored leather armor, a dirty white tunic underneath that stops a little short, leather pants that don't make it much further past his knees and a shield that looks too small for his frame. He also has a mace on his side with his name scratched on it. His face is pleasant for a dragonborn, with cheery blue eyes set against his mostly copper toned skin. He is tall and on the lanky side with a tail that stops after only a few feet or so. His hands and knees show wear, evidence of one who spent more time doing menial chores than more pious work. But he does his best to always look presentable and put together.
Unique Hobby or Habit: He loves collecting flowers, even has a book with specimens and drawings of them.
Core Beliefs: Charity, the "golden rule", helping others helps yourself
Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? Never played
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? Nope
What interests you about CoS? I love dark settings, horror tropes, scares and fears and this setting has been on my "to do" list for ages now
This character might be good for the campaign because they are dedicated to life and being put into a place where death threatens at every corner could make them constantly face the flip side to life, their very antithesis.
I DMed the House of Horror part and a little past it a couple years ago on a pbp thread. Loved it
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish?
See previous answer
What interests you about CoS?
I absolutely love the setting and playstyle of Curse of Strahd. When I got into DnD, Curse of Strahd is what helped me fall in lovd with DnD. I tried to find a group to do it with for a while, but I finally caved and DMed one on a thread so I could finally do it. I love the rich history and RP potential it has (the narrative is just so juicy!) I've always wanted to be a player in a CoS just so I can watch the story unfold. I absolutely love seeing the plot progress so much more than combat, and CoS is the perfect opportunity for that to happen
Here’s what I want to know about your character:
Character Name: Regmund (he doesn't know his last name)
Race: Hopefully firbolg, but I can reskin a hill dwarf if needed
I know you said only PHB, but if at all possible, I would prefer use Firbolg for the race, not for power playing, but for flavor. It also helps with the backstory. I also just love that they have the ability to talk with plants and animals. I love the imagery of Regmund kneeling upon the forest floor in the spring time, coaxing and giving words of encouragement to a plant struggling grow amongst the other shrubbery.
That being said, I can make hill dwarf work, but mechanics won't match up with flavor. Just let me know what your ruling is
Class: Druid, Circle of the Moon
Background: Outlander
Personality: Regmund hates conflict. He'd much rather find peaceful solutions to problems, and he hates hurting living things. That being said, if there is no other option, he will fight. His exceptions are things that are unnatural and when he has opportunities to defend and help others. He has a surprising and unexpected, remorseless hatred towards those who cruellu oppress and use others for their gain. This hatred is so deep, Regmund has no qualms in being cruel back and will even take action to harm or oppose said oppressers. This comes from his father
That being said, Regmund is a very happy guy. He does his best to look on the bright side of things. With his happy countenance and cheerful personality, it's hard for others to stay down and depressed for too long.
Regmund goes out of his way to help other things, both people and things of nature. He doesn't have the greatest social skills, but he does his best to make up for it, often leading to embarrasing social situations.
Biggest Fear: To make things simple, sensory deprivation, espicially not being able to see
Three Interesting Details About Them:
I don't know if this is allowed, but it would be cool if Regmund was born blind. If allowed somehow, it would be neat to be able use the Find Familiar spell so he can see and function. It would also play into his love of animals if he has to rely so heavily on a familiar
He loves the wildshape ability because he can see and rely on his own senses rather than his familiar's. He is often happiest when roaming about in the form of an animal
His druidic focus is part of a blooming branch from the tree of a dryad who helped raise him
Appearance (including Dress):
Depends on if firbolg would be allowed or not
Unique Hobby or Habit:
He loves birds. He often gets distracted by birds. He also loves to catalog the animals, plants, and terrain that he comes across. He enjoys drawing them out in a beaten leather journal, one of his most prized possesions
Core Beliefs: Treat others the way you want to be treated, but you should probably do better than that.
Keep the natural side of things pure, the way it should be
Everybody has a bit of good in them, even if it's buried deep. Try to understand people before before making judgements
Backstory (I know you didn't ask for it, but it'll help fill things out)
Essentially, Regmund's father was a cruel, callous human man who owned a logging business. Uncaring of others, he made a very good business man, unafraid to hurt others to make a profit. Additionally, he enjoyed harming fey and natural creatures, often hunting them for sport. He often saw Regmund as a failure because of his blindness
One day, when Regmund was 3, his father took him and his mother out to a logging camp so he could supervise when a force of angry fey and woodland beasts attacked the camp. Fed up with their lives constantly under threat, they decided to take matters in their own hands. They destroyed the camp and killed everyone except for Regmund. Feeling pity, the community of fey took him in and raised him as one of their own.
The fey raised him and taught them in their ways. Their influence on him gradually transformed him into a firbolg (if allowed.) He loves the fey like family (I'll make a list of specific fey and send them to you later if allowed in)
Now, he's out in the world, ready protect nature and to help the downtrodden
Why would this be a good character for the campaign? Regmund is fiercely loyal to those he is close to, so in a combat situation, he will be a tank/support type character. Outside of combat (the best part of DnD), he’d be a good pick to help nurture and support other characters. It would also be fun to see how the grim reality of Barovia would toy and tease with Regmund’s innocence. Also, CoS would probably give him lots of opportunities to express his darker side, as mentioned in one of the earlier sections
All that being said, this whole character is based of off being firbolg. I understand if that absolutely cannot work, and it bends the rules a bit about needing access to the Find Familiar spell. Just let me know what your thoughts are
Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? No (and no)
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? No (and no)
What interests you about CoS? Vampires are timeless – potentially at home in any era. But not as a random monster. It will be great to play a DnD character in their setting, their home.
Character Name: Bele Corbu
Race: Half-elf
Class: Rogue
Background: Sage
Personality: Bele would be described by those that know her as stubborn, wise and idealistic. First and foremost, Bele is studious – she has never met a books she didn’t like. Next, she is single-minded, with a laser-like focus to see things through to the end. Finally she believes that every problem can be solved. In another life, she could have been a detective. All these things add up to her appearing quite straight-laced, but she does possess a very dry and potentially wicked sense of humour.
Biggest Fear: Astraphobia – which is the fear of storms – but specifically thunder and lightning. Irrational, yes, but none the less real. It can be debilitating – especially if outside.
Three Interesting Details About Them: Firstly, she has a tattoo of a raven on her left heel (she has always loved these birds). Next, she has lilac irises (which cannot be explained by genetics). Finally, she owns a tiny music box that plays a song from her childhood. For someone that appears to lack even an ounce of sentimentality, the fact she carries it everywhere says something.
Appearance (including Dress): Blonde, shoulder length hair usually swept from her face. Pale skinned and especially in the summer, she has freckles across the bridge of her nose and on both cheeks. She’s wiry (as opposed to skinny) and just over six feet tall. She usually dresses in leathers, dark in hue and wears a rapier and a dagger on her belt.
Unique Hobby or Habit: The tell when she’s stressed is a habit of smoothing down the creases in her trousers with the palms of her hands (even though they’re not creased).
Core Beliefs: Her word is her bond – once she commits to something, she sees it through to the bitter end. Better to be remembered as a dead hero than an alive nobody. Knowledge is power – nobody can ever know too much.
Why would this be a good character for the campaign?: Her back-story blends well into the campaign setting, and gives her a strong motive to see this though to the end. In terms of Bele herself, doesn't every party need a tricks monkey?
Backstory
Bele was born into a life of luxury, as her father was a rich merchant. As such, she received a high education and wanted for nothing. From studying languages to history lessons, her thirst for knowledge was never sated.
All that changed when her parents were murdered. It was a needless act of robbery – no blood needed to be shed, yet her father and mother lay slain by a petty criminal. Some say it was actually a contract killing – the precision of the killer’s blade too perfect for a vagabond thief. Regardless, the young Bele was distraught and languished for years, squandering most of the family’s wealth in the process.
Then, one day in a freak accident, she fell from an upstairs window, trying to pet a young raven on the window ledge of her home. Her ensuing coma was traumatic – and she lived a fortnight of dreams vividly. Two weeks later, she awoke with a sense of purpose – to understand what the dreams meant, and what it all had to do a strange castle and blood…lots and lots of blood.
that it has one of the best villains in dnd and brings out a bit more horror that the rest of the campaign setting that are officially published.
Name Clovis blackwing
Race human
class fighter battle master
background folk hero
Personality Clovis tries to be a leader wanting to earn people respect and gives equals praise however years being alone has sort of made him an outsider and having doubts in his own confidence
Biggest fear: ending up like a monster that his farther was
Three interesting facts
1 he worships the platinum dragon bahumat, 2 he’s likes reading in his spare time 3 he has a birth mark on his left arm that looks like a slit pupil like an crocodile
Apperence he stands 5,8 brown short hair, hazel brown eyes has his longsword sheefed behind his back whilst his shortsword is by his waste. Wears chain mail comfortably, in great physical condition looks like he could lift 130kg fine, has the birth mark on his arm couple of scars on his back that he covers up. Armour and clothing is mostly well kept
unique hobby is jewellery whilst not being a jeweller that makes, he keeps some gems to sell and trade
Core belief : everyone should be treated the same
Why would this character be good for this campaign:
Sometimes you need a little hope in a dark campaign to inspire others around you and other players also that he understands weakness and strengths define us

Why is this a good character for this campaign?
I'd like to play a Reborn Barbarian I'd created for a Ravnica campaign that folded. Seems she'd fit in Ravenloft.
Here's her unedited backstory if allowed. I'll update it on approval. (No time for more, gotta go back to work)
Victoria's 1st memory was waking up on a slab, in a lab, during a thunderstorm, with a wild haired man shouting "SHE'S ALIVE!" He said he was her husband, but she couldn't remember so she rebuffed his advances. She heard him muttering to himself as he spent nearly a month testing her to make sure she was okay "from the surgery" that left her covered in scars (as if her Limbs and head had been severed and reattached) and lost her memory. He seemed pleased that her strength was greater than you'd expect from a slender woman, but confused that an electric shock hurt her. Several times he heard him muttering (when he thought she couldn't hear) "It shouldn't do that. It shouldn't be that way" and once when he was pouring over his books, he whispered "That's where I went wrong. Flesh Golems are immutable. Trying to keep her attractive messed up the process". Mere weeks later a group of adventurers stormed the castle. When they met her, they asked themselves if they should kill her because she's undead, but then they started fighting her "husband" and his servants and she ran in the confusion.
Victoria "awakened" in Karrnath, less than a day's travel from Atur. She doesn't know if her "husband" (as the necromancer called himself) was trying new methods of creating undead for the military or not.
She left Karrnath as she didn't feel a connection, but joined "The Blood of Vol" as an undead friendly religion.
A year later, she's learned how to fight, but finds herself flying into a rage sometimes. And she's still searching for her past.
I have played Curse of Strahd several times but most of the time they were either heavily edited. We never actually finished it, we tpked at the old bone grinder and most of the party didn't want to continue. (This was in person)
Have you played CoS in a PBP? Did you finish?
I've played it in PBP form seven times and the furthest we got was entering the Durst house and then it sort of fell apart. Sadly no.
What interests you about CoS?
It has one of the most iconic villains in DnD and grimness of the setting is a nice change of pace from the usual fantasy settings that I'm use to. It was also one of the first campaigns I played in that wasn't in a homebrew setting.
Name: Amnon
Race: Tiefling
Class: Bard (College of Lore)
Background: Entertainer
Personality: Amnon is friendly, determined and a little on the eccentric side. That being said when he is around strangers he tries to appear Confident, intelligent and a little on the selfish side even though many can see through his act.
Biggest Fear: Dying before he can make a difference in the world.
Three interesting details about them:
1. Amnon has a tendency to touch his chin with his left hand when he's lying. 2. He carries a love letter that his husband gave him back when they first got together, whenever he misses him he'll read it. 3. He doesn't know much about his biological family but he keeps having dreams about what he assumes is his mother, father and older brother.
Appearance (including dress): Amnon is 5' 7", has pale red skin, shoulder length black hair and silver eyes. One of his horns has been broken off while the other one looks similar to that of a rams. His attire consists of a tan ruffled shirt, brown trousers, a leather belt, leather armor that looks like it's seen better days, and a light blue 'jacket' that he leaves open. Attached to his belt is his rapier and his coin purse and on his back is his pack and his lute.
Unique hobby or habit: When he needs to calm down he will sing to himself in Infernal
Core Beliefs: Knowledge is power, it's better to help people than it is to turn a blind eye, everyone deserves to be treated equally
Why would this be a good character for the campaign?: His determination to help others could be both a gift and a curse depending on the situation and he just might be able to lift the party's spirits when necessary.
I'm terribley torn between "oh no, Amnon and Kit are too much alike, we're going to be competing for the same spot in the party!" and "Amnon and Kit have so much in common! I'd love to see them in a campaign together!"
Desperately hoping for the second one! Either way, I hope you make it into the campaign!
I've never played CoS in any form, but I've always had an itch for the resource- and hope-starved atmosphere that I've heard it inspires. Nothing else has quite been able to hit that spot, so I hope that this can be the exact hopeless adventure that I've been looking for!
Personality: He's still finding his courage, as well as his self. He'll try to be good when he can, but he hasn't quite gotten that goodness to overcome his natural survival instincts. Generally just trying to fill boots that he hasn't had time to grow into.
Biggest Fear: Scotophobia, the fear of darkness. Or, more specifically, the fear of finding out what darkness will do to him.
Three Interesting Details About Them:
He never casts a shadow.
Well, he kinda is a shadow.
The darkness constantly reaches out for and hunts him.
Appearance (including Dress): It's never been completely clear in what ways Nitor is flesh and in what ways he is shadow. His skin is fairly dark and he's a bit below average height, though some people swear that his height changes slightly depending on where the sun is in the sky. Nitor is very far from what most people expect from a paladin in terms of armor weight, wearing just some sleek and simple vestments, mostly white and yellow, with iconography and various spots from which he can hang lanterns or hold candles. He usually has a piercing blade by his hip, alongside a shield decorated with representations of light similar to his clothing.
Unique Hobby or Habit: You'll never find him without at least 2 sources of light nearby.
Core Beliefs: The darkness constantly wins because the light fears it. Courage and action are needed to bring about a better world. Too bad fear is so much easier to find than either of those.
Why is this a good character for this campaign? Nitor could probably be a driving force for the party, pushing them forwards and encouraging them to do at least some version of the right thing.
Backstory:
Even darkness itself can make mistakes. One dark Barovian night, when neither moon nor star was visible in the sky, a being of flesh and blood was formed out of nothing but shadow somewhere deep in a forest. Unclear on why this happened, the shadows reached for the newly created being, trying to bring its matter back to the darkness from which it was made. The being ran for the better part of a week, trying to escape its progenitor. It survived only by its own speed and the confusion of its seeker.
During one night of running, the exhausted being found a town, and in that town an old gnome candlemaker. Within his candle-riddled workshop was the first place where the being felt safe during the night. The gnome was kind, as was the priest that lived in the miniscule temple of light connected to the workshop. With its new, adopted family, the being was clothed, fed, named, and (most importantly of all) illuminated.
Years passed, during which Nitor would spend every hour of every night holed up in his glowing home. Eventually, he got tired of hiding from the darkness. As he learned more from his adoptive priest mother, his courage grew, until finally he had enough to swear an oath before her. He swore to seek out and fight the darkness instead of let it force him into hiding. Since that day, he's done everything he can to make good on that oath.
Notes:
Is Shadow Touched an okay feat to take? I think it's pretty self explanatory why I'd want it for the character.
Would I be able to trade in the chain mail from Paladin's starting equipment for some light armor and some lighting supplies?
It's technically an optional feature, but could I take the Blessed Warrior fighting style from Tasha's instead of Dueling? I'd probably just use it to pick up light and sacred flame, or similar things.
Did I miss anything in my submission? Is there anything you want me to elaborate on or revise?

Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? No
What interests you about CoS? I enjoy horror, vampires and I hear CoS is gritty.
Here’s what I want to know about your character:
Character Name: Ingrid Keaton
Race: Human
Class:Cleric (Grave Domain)
Background: Sage (Researcher)
Personality: Reserved (not to the point of being an introvert), empathetic to others, Reflective and inquisitive
Biggest Fear: Ingrid’s biggest fear is to not remember her experiences or remember who she is. Dimentia (Alzheimer’s).
Three Interesting Details About Them:
1) Ingrid has a letter from a dead colleague. In the letter, her colleague and friend posed the question, “What happens to our memories if we come back from the dead?” Ingrid has not been able to answer that question, but it was the catalyst for her to become fearful of losing her own memories and experiences.
2) Ingrid loves flowers. Orchids in particular.
3) Ingrid keeps a daily journal to record her experiences and memories as part of her fear of losing that most precious part of her being.
Appearance (including Dress): Ingrid has honeyed-blonde hair that she keeps in a ponytail that is tied with a blue ribbon. Her eyes are a magnificent and bright emerald green. She wears a deep blue dress, like that of the night sky. Her dress flows around her calves and is adorned with a yellow cord cinched around her waist. A simple gold chain with the symbol of Kelemvor (God of Dead). She wears black, knee-high boots with no heels.
Unique Hobby or Habit: Ingrid likes to cook meals when she can. She will pick flowers and tuck them in her journal when she can relate it to an experience she had.
Core Beliefs: Live life to the fullest and experience all that you can. Death is inevitable and hopefully, the more we experience the more likely we’ll remember who we are in the afterlife.
Why is this a good character for this campaign? Ingrid would be good for this campaign as she will be involved with the other party members. Ingrid would explore other character’s backgrounds and histories and focus on them. She would create dialogue by asking questions and observing others. She can be the moral and philosophical compass when faced with challenging situations as well as heal others.
I ran a game of CoS so I've read the module. (Ive been a perma-DM for 6 years so I've learned to avoid meta-gaming). I havn't ever played in in a PbP format however. The darker gothic horror style has always appealed to me, most horror in general is something I like to play in or write. I am also a much more RP leaning player than combat or exploration and settings like these or plots where a whole group is trapped in a foreign, hostile area I think are interesting.
Character Name: Idralli Character Sheet Race: Half Shadar-kai (Mechanically Phb Drow) Class: Warlock (Raven Queen) Background: Criminal/Spy (Spy) Personality: Life in the Shadowfell has had the same effect on Idralli as many others, overtime her emotions were drained transforming her more and more into a stoic, near emotionless husk like many souls in Barovia. Before she was a little akward and shy, but would try to keep others around her happy. This side of her still comes back out every so often when certain events or things around her remind her of her past. Biggest Fear: She becomes terrified and almost nauseous when she feels she is the only one who can make an important decision or make a big change. In her mind everything is destined to happen and moments like that make her begin to thing differently about that belief. Three Interesting Details: Idralli has a pet Raven, Vallkin who helps her with small tasks. Idralli's race, the Shadar-kai are originally from the Shadowfell but she was born and raised in Faerun. Idralli has a distinct hatred for horses. Appearance: She stands around 5'10" with her heeled knee high boots she always wears. Her skin is an ashy white/grey in contrast to her hair and much of her clothing which is black or a dark blue. Bundles of black feathers group around her shoulders and across her back as they descend into a dulled blue cloak, the cloth at the bottom being lightly torn and dirtied. Her pale torso is exposed showing a crossed scar and faded blue paint in some kind of ritualistic pattern. Metal ribs, part of her clothing wrap around her body in this area. Idralli's skirt drops from her waist to only hang a few inches off the ground, long slits on the front left and right sides show similar dull blue markings on her legs as to the ones on her torso. She wears dark paint around her grey, slightly blue eyes. Her chin is often up and shoulders back as she glares at her surroundings, occasionally with a raven perched on her arm. Unique Habit: She likes to take long walks before bed where she gets used to the environment around her and looks for any trinkets or discarded mementos along the way. Core Beliefs: Fate will continue to march on. No one truly has much effect on the outcome of their own life.
Why is this a good character for this campaign? I think it would be cool to have a character who is familiar with the Shadowfell (But not particularly Barovia) be in the group, possibly on a mission from the Raven Queen. A lot of themes in curse of Strahd seem to be about hopelessness and having to overcome the massive vampiric threat by the end. It may be cool for someone like Idralli to also have that same sense of things will only ever go one way but in the opposite direction to how the module presents it. Also I'd like to play her similar to soulless town folk at the beginning, void of emotion but maybe have to start to come more and more out through the campaign.
Have you ever played CoS? Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? No, I have not played CoS.
What interests you about CoS? It’s a departure from typical high fantasy and whether it ends up being serious or campy horror, it could make for an interesting adventure.
Character Name: Anton Naïlo
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Warlock 1/Wizard 2
Background: Haunted One
Personality: Anton is a curious and friendly man, but he is somewhat scatterbrained. He tends to overestimate his abilities and not realize the danger, he finds himself in.
Biggest Fear: Causing the death of a loved one.
Three Interesting Details About Them:
1. Anton was contacted by his patron when he tried to cast a divination spell that he was unprepared for.
2. Anton comes from a family of musicians, but can’t play a single note.
3. He has a book that records his dreams. He doesn’t know where it came from or how it works.
Appearance (including Dress): Anton stands at 6’2” with pale skin and short sandy hair. He is clean shaven and wears a well-made, but simple three piece suit with an ascot and a top hat on formal occasions.
Unique Hobby or Habit: Anton is an amateur confectioner is his free time.
Core Beliefs: Everyone should strive to always be learning or experiencing new things.
Why is this a good character for this campaign? I think Anton would be a good character for the campaign because his lighter personality and tendency to be unaware of danger would push a party into situations they might otherwise avoid by being overly cautious.
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish?
Yes but not really. A couple very short starts in Play by Post games... And one game where I joined right near the end after someone had dropped. So I don't really know the story though I have experienced some elements. I don't see it as a problem playing clueless...
What interests you about CoS?
Well at the most basic level I am interested in any good Role Play heavy campaign. As for CoS itself, it is iconic, it is vampires and gloom, it largely thought of as the best campaign, no? If nothing else, I would really like to experience it from start to finish.
Here’s what I want to know about your character:
Character Name: Elizabeth Breen aka Betty the Bold aka Betty the ***** - The aka is largely based on how much you like her.
Race: Human Variant
Class: Fighter - Eldritch Knight
Background: Soldier - probably a member of the City Guard or such but open to whatever works for the story.
Personality: Bold, Brash, Brassy/. She strong, capable and very adamant about her beliefs and goals, or pigheaded if one prefers. She is stubborn and fickle. When she decides to do or say something she does or says it and damn the consequences. This can rub some people the wrong way but Betty just doesn't really care - She does what she thinks is right in whatever situation she finds herself in and will fight whatever tells her no.
Biggest Fear: Loss of control, whether it is being too weak to do what she wants or too indecisive to know what she wants.
Three Interesting Details About Them:
Is an animal lover. Dogs, cats, horses, cattle - Betty gets along better with animals than people. Mostly because they don't argue with her. As much.
Doesn't drink alcohol. Frequents bars for the camaraderie but hates the feeling of losing control that alcohol provides.
A bit of a gambler. Mostly a card player but has been known to bet on almost anything. Generally for low stakes and bragging rights but she has lost some pay packets when she thought she was on to a sure thing...
Appearance (including Dress):
Freckles dance upon her skin like constellations, adding a touch of youthful vigor to her battle-hardened visage. Draped in the regalia of the city guard, her chainmail armor gleams even as the wind whistles through her short, untamed strands of fiery red hair. She wields a glaive with a practiced finesse, the weapon is an extension of her will. Left-handed, she commands her weapon with an uncommon grace, catching opponents off-guard with her unorthodox stance. Known as Betty the Bold to her friends, her reputation isn't without its thorns; some call her Betty the *****, a testament to the polarizing nature of her personality and brashness. Bright, happy, always eager to smile and laugh, Betty takes even the most dire of situations as fanciful fare to be joked about.
Unique Hobby or Habit:
Betty whittles in her down time. There is a lot of down time being a soldier and one would think she'd be good at it by now but she's not. There is nothing artistic about her whittling, mostly she just turns larger sticks into smaller sticks. But it passes the time.
Core Beliefs:
Live. Betty Breen doesn't really think philosophically about seizing every opportunity or living every day to it's fullest, it's just her natural state. She does things, smart or not, well thought out or not, she would rather take an action and be wrong than to stand around with her thumb up her ass.
Why is this a good character for this campaign?
She has a habit of making pointy sticks?
For this campaign? I don't know. I suppose I would need be more familiar with the campaign to answer why she would be good for this specific campaign. But in general I believe she makes for a good D&D character because she is about action and decision... Not that she is always reckless but at some point she is just going to do something and push the action rather than endlessly consider possibilities. She is mostly a melee character but she has a smattering of magic which I hope to play in such a way to make her a bit offbeat and interesting without really stepping on the toes of the actual spellcasters.

Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? No, I have a general idea of the setting from a podcast I listen to. It was heavily homebrewed, so I don't know plot points.
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? No
What interests you about CoS? Love the grimdark setting, the interwoven storylines, the characters, and how hopeless it all seems. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and horror movies are my favorite genre.
While still a child, in the Elven sense, Berrian wandered off and happened upon a group of humans searching for something. He offered to help and they turned on him, threatening him with harm unless he divulged the secrets of the Elves. One of the humans took a sharp knife and carved two lines into his right cheek. Fearing for his life, Berrian told them everything they wanted to know. Thankfully, they let him go and he rushed back to his city. Upon arrival, he was taken by the guards to face the Seelie court, where it was ruled that he be banished forever for betraying his kind. Taken outside of the city, and knocked out. Berrian awoke in a forest, with no sign of his city. He had to learn quickly how to survive in the woods, learning how to track, hunt with a bow, and forage. For many years Berrian lived this way, until happening across a small village under siege by a pack of fiends. Swiftly, and silently he used his bow to take them down from afar. As he came closer to harvest his kills, the villagers came out to give their thanks. Apparently, the fiends had been drawn to the village by a young Warlock that didn't know what they were doing. Berrian returned to the wilds, looking for his dinner, when suddenly a young ranger appeared before him, claiming to be the deity Silvanus. Silvanus told of a break in the natural cycle of life, how the balance between growth and decay had been broken. If Berrian could right this wrong, Silvanus would speak to the Seelie Court and allow him to go back to his kin. Since that day, Berrian has been traveling the lands restoring the natural cycle wherever he senses it is amiss, each time hoping that this task will finally be enough to be allowed to go home.
Personality: A bit rough around the edges, but once you earn his trust and respect, he'll take an arrow for you. He's spent most of his life in the wilderness, living off the land, fighting for survival. He comes across as uncultured and dumb, he uses that to put people at ease, which makes him quite good at reading people. However he does have a nasty habit of calling out when they're lying. He's cautious out in nature, but can be a bit reckless when he gets over confident.
Biggest Fear: Never seeing his family again, and having them be disappointed in him, if he does.
Three Interesting Details About Them: He was banished from his home because while under duress he told outsiders where to find it. He enjoys teaching others the things he's learned from nature. He stopped a demonic attack on a village after a young Warlock inadvertently summoned them, since then he's learned as much as he can about infernals.
Appearance (including Dress): Dark brown hair, pulled back into a bun at the back of his head. His skin is light brown, with several scars across his face, that look like they're from claws. One such scar runs from his left forehead to the right side of his chin. His right eye is a brilliant emerald green, his left is covered by a leather patch. He dresses plainly in a handmade leather jerkin. A quiver strap runs across his chest with a dagger strapped to it. A bow with ornate carvings is slung over one shoulder, and he carries a leather roll that contains a quarterstaff, and two shortswords.
Unique Hobby or Habit: He enjoys playing the pan flute, doesn't matter if it sounds good or not, it calms him.
Core Beliefs: We must trust in the lessons that nature teaches us. There is a balance to everything, protect the balance.
Why is this a good character for this campaign? He knows how to live off the land, he can help the group navigate this unknown place. He may only have one eye, but he's a crack shot with a bow. He can read people very well by playing into other's preconceptions of him. Heading into an unknown land will test him, it also excites him as a hunter to potentially discover new challenges, new prey. Having him go from hunter to hunted will be incredibly difficult for him to accept, and he may not realize it until it's too late.

Character Name:Vankath Learic
Race:Half-Elf
Class: Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
Background:Hermit
Personality:A little uncivilized at times, tends to act hastily but with good intentions.
Biggest Fear: Being rejected again, and spiders...
Three Interesting Details About Them: Rejected as a half blood, was a noble but left with nothing to live in solitude. Magic was looked down on by family. Spent his time in the world collecting and experimenting with various components to help fuel his magic.
Appearance (including Dress): Short, dark brown hair. Simple green robes that extend just past the knee, with brown trousers and plain leather boots. Wooden quarterstaff strapped on the back. Everything looks worn and dirty. He carries a pouch full of various components for spellcrafting.
Unique Hobby or Habit: Cartography, and some basic alchemy
Core Beliefs: Everyone is equal, and should be treated as such. Rich or poor alike
Why is this a good character for this campaign? Hopefully his acting "hastily" could help to push things forward in times of hesitation or lulls.

I’d like to run Curse of Strahd through PbP.

Class and race, sure, but is anything else restricted to PHB? Subclass, optional features, spells, custom origins, backgrounds, anything else I'm not thinking of? Also, will it be in space?
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny.
Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.
How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat Off - Mod Hat Also Off (I'm not a mod)

Character Name: Nagrax
Race: Dragonborn
Class: Cleric (life)
Background: Acolyte
Here’s what I want to know about you:
Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish?

Name Clovis blackwing
Race human
class fighter battle master
background folk hero
Sometimes you need a little hope in a dark campaign to inspire others around you and other players also that he understands weakness and strengths define us
Update:
I added one question to the application: why would this be a good character for the campaign?
if you’ve already submitted (thank you) could you please update your post with an answer to this question? Thank you.

Why is this a good character for this campaign?
I'd like to play a Reborn Barbarian I'd created for a Ravnica campaign that folded. Seems she'd fit in Ravenloft.
Here's her unedited backstory if allowed. I'll update it on approval. (No time for more, gotta go back to work)
Victoria's 1st memory was waking up on a slab, in a lab, during a thunderstorm, with a wild haired man shouting "SHE'S ALIVE!"
He said he was her husband, but she couldn't remember so she rebuffed his advances.
Have you played CoS? Did you finish?
@VictorNetherwalker
Name: Nitor
Race: Variant Human (but reflavored)
Class: Paladin (Oath of Devotion)
Background: Acolyte
Personality: He's still finding his courage, as well as his self. He'll try to be good when he can, but he hasn't quite gotten that goodness to overcome his natural survival instincts. Generally just trying to fill boots that he hasn't had time to grow into.
Biggest Fear: Scotophobia, the fear of darkness. Or, more specifically, the fear of finding out what darkness will do to him.
Three Interesting Details About Them:
Notes:
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny.
Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.
How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat Off - Mod Hat Also Off (I'm not a mod)
Here’s what I want to know about you:
Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? No
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? No
What interests you about CoS? I enjoy horror, vampires and I hear CoS is gritty.
Here’s what I want to know about your character:
Character Name: Ingrid Keaton
Race: Human
Class: Cleric (Grave Domain)
Character Name: Idralli Character Sheet
Race: Half Shadar-kai (Mechanically Phb Drow)
Class: Warlock (Raven Queen)
Background: Criminal/Spy (Spy)
Personality: Life in the Shadowfell has had the same effect on Idralli as many others, overtime her emotions were drained transforming her more and more into a stoic, near emotionless husk like many souls in Barovia.
Three Interesting Details:
Idralli has a pet Raven, Vallkin who helps her with small tasks.
I'm realizing that Raven Queen Warlock is UA and not PhB so lets just say thats Great Old one then^
Have you ever played CoS?
Here’s what I want to know about you:Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? In person? No.Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish?Yes but not really. A couple very short starts in Play by Post games... And one game where I joined right near the end after someone had dropped. So I don't really know the story though I have experienced some elements. I don't see it as a problem playing clueless...What interests you about CoS?Well at the most basic level I am interested in any good Role Play heavy campaign. As for CoS itself, it is iconic, it is vampires and gloom, it largely thought of as the best campaign, no? If nothing else, I would really like to experience it from start to finish. Here’s what I want to know about your character:Character Name: Elizabeth Breen aka Betty the Bold aka Betty the ***** - The aka is largely based on how much you like her.Race: Human VariantClass: Fighter - Eldritch KnightBackground: Soldier - probably a member of the City Guard or such but open to whatever works for the story.Personality: Bold, Brash, Brassy/. She strong, capable and very adamant about her beliefs and goals, or pigheaded if one prefers. She is stubborn and fickle. When she decides to do or say something she does or says it and damn the consequences. This can rub some people the wrong way but Betty just doesn't really care - She does what she thinks is right in whatever situation she finds herself in and will fight whatever tells her no.Biggest Fear: Loss of control, whether it is being too weak to do what she wants or too indecisive to know what she wants.Three Interesting Details About Them:Is an animal lover. Dogs, cats, horses, cattle - Betty gets along better with animals than people. Mostly because they don't argue with her. As much.Doesn't drink alcohol. Frequents bars for the camaraderie but hates the feeling of losing control that alcohol provides.A bit of a gambler. Mostly a card player but has been known to bet on almost anything. Generally for low stakes and bragging rights but she has lost some pay packets when she thought she was on to a sure thing...Appearance (including Dress):Freckles dance upon her skin like constellations, adding a touch of youthful vigor to her battle-hardened visage. Bright, happy, always eager to smile and laugh, Betty takes even the most dire of situations as fanciful fare to be joked about.Unique Hobby or Habit:Betty whittles in her down time. There is a lot of down time being a soldier and one would think she'd be good at it by now but she's not. There is nothing artistic about her whittling, mostly she just turns larger sticks into smaller sticks. But it passes the time.Core Beliefs:Live. Betty Breen doesn't really think philosophically about seizing every opportunity or living every day to it's fullest, it's just her natural state. She does things, smart or not, well thought out or not, she would rather take an action and be wrong than to stand around with her thumb up her ass.Why is this a good character for this campaign? She has a habit of making pointy sticks? For this campaign? I don't know. I suppose I would need be more familiar with the campaign to answer why she would be good for this specific campaign. But in general I believe she makes for a good D&D character because she is about action and decision... Not that she is always reckless but at some point she is just going to do something and push the action rather than endlessly consider possibilities. She is mostly a melee character but she has a smattering of magic which I hope to play in such a way to make her a bit offbeat and interesting without really stepping on the toes of the actual spellcasters.Inspirational art borrowed from the web, artist unknown.Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/105931237/XGrkJOWe're doing one small murder-y thing for a bigger, better reason. Here’s what I want to know about you:
Have you ever played CoS? Did you finish? No, I have a general idea of the setting from a podcast I listen to. It was heavily homebrewed, so I don't know plot points.
Have you played CoS in a PbP setting? Did you finish? No
What interests you about CoS? Love the grimdark setting, the interwoven storylines, the characters, and how hopeless it all seems. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and horror movies are my favorite genre.
Here’s what I want to know about your character:
Character Name: Berrian Hrayek
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/106005023/WpPL28
Race: Wood Elf
Class: Ranger, Hunter specialization
Background: Outlander
Backstory:
