Normont tells the others what he can make out from the book covers before he follows Quinn to the door.
”The bar is on this side, meaning that whatever is beyond is not as important as what we have already seen”, he says and watches as Quinn shoves it open to reveal the sheer drop on the other side.
While the others continue their investigation of the area, Magnus wanders over to a small pool of the black liquid stuff. He will try and grab a stick or piece of wood somewhere, if one is available and will stick it in the black stuff and grab a bit of it to be put on the end of the stick. Making sure to never get his hands near the black liquid. He will then place the stick on the ground away from anything else flammable and then will light the stick using Prestidigitation and quickly step back and see what happens to the black liquid. Magnus is very curious to see just how flammable the black liquid is and if he determines it is flammable and jest how flammable it is, he will go about and start to burn the remaining black liquid away. So it will not cause any other issues when we eventually leave the cave.
After a few minutes of climbing stairs, Dev has a slight stitch. Breathing heavily, he allows Quinn to take the remaining steps up to the door himself, although he keeps an eye on the genasi in case of trouble. But when the door opens to blue skies, Dev relaxes and allows his glance to fall upon the book remains Lokilia had been investigating.
"If you were stuck on a desert island, or in a moldy cave, which book would you bring...," the teenager asks, to no one in particular, his eerie voice floating into the dark corners of the chamber. (Investigation 11) Does he notice anything familiar in the moldy leather covers and filaments of parchment residue on the makeshift table?
“Wait, Magnus”, Normont will say if he notices Magnus trying to set fire to the goo. “We tried that outside and it caused a choking vapour to be released. It will be dangerous in an enclosed space like this”.

"I guess the question now is if we continue to follow this path," Lokilia says. "Or do we just go back the way we came? Our ultimate destination probably lies the other way? Or does it? But it seems odd that this is where the entrance to that place was. Where would people have been coming from to get here?"After a bit of a pause, she asks, "Who would even have built all this for this... awful place."
"Very good questions, Lokilia", Normont replies. "I think we should follow the path, if only to see where the entrance to the path that leads here is. There might be markings or sigils there that would direct those nefarious enough to want to visit. I would like to mark it on a map as well, so I can take it to Lord de Rolo and the Chamber of Whitestone. They will be able to send those more capable of making this place safe".

Heading out and following the rather precipitous path upwards it comes out on top of the cliffs facing nor'east on the same side of the escarpment as they had previously descended, from the clifftop there is no way of seeing the door and even the trail from the top just looks like a slight jutting of stone below the edge.
Looking about the top seems fairly featureless and they are soon able to find their original trail down someway further along the escarpment....as for sigils or signs there are none that are obvious or visible that can be seen.
Looking back down the previous descent trail the chamois seem to have moved away from the pool for now, though the bodies of those killed by the Thunder magic remain and those caught in the flood lie much further below.
Before venturing up the cliff face, Magnus woudl like to see if he could Mage Hand the wood block back into place, locking the cave to the outside world, at least from this side. "Can't be too careful, would not want some random person to venture in there and undo what we fixed."
With that hopefully done he follows the rest up the cliff face.
Lokilia stands for a moment, looking down across the valley. "I really wish we could do something with that flood of black stuff. I know we stopped the flow, but that surely won't be good if it travels down the river." She considers her own abilities. "I could perhaps try a purification spell, but I would need to meditate and pray tomorrow morning to do that. I'm not sure if we're all willing to just wait."
Normont ponders for a moment before replying to Lokilia, "I could also adjust my tools to help with the purification given time. Although I am not certain how much area it will be able to cover. Perhaps some is better than none though?".
"I also think we should do something with the corrupted creatures. If they will coral travellers to whatever goo is left, that makes them dangerous. And perhaps burying or burning those dead ones before carrion birds find them and get corrupted themselves. That would give the corruption a greater range", he says a little sad at the thought of having to put them down.
(OOC: @DM How big was the original pool of goo? What is the state of the flooded goo, has it pooled somewhere or made it to the river? How many chamois are left?)

It takes some effort but magnus manages to get the wood back in place.

The black liquid has been flowing for possibly a week to a month before you arrived, this is determined by Dev whose expertise at judging the age and therefore danger of foods is applied to the apple remnants from the backpack....from the amount trickling from the pool you can estimate a fair amount of it has already found itself down into the valley below though whether it has pooled there or reached the river is hard to say.....the much more recent torrential flood of the stuff likely hasn't helped....

( About 5' by 5' and an inch deep, the trickle heading downslope seemed to be a relatively steady but small flow. Post flood the pool is 10x10 and 2 inches deep and there is a steady flow slowly reducing the size though with no ' top up' now it will likely fully drain the pool in a few days.
looking over the edge there is a substantial pool of liquid at the base of the escarpment some 150' below and obvious signs of flows from it and the path of a greater volume of liquid through the greenery. The river is still almost a days journey away so its hard to say if any of the original flow or runoff from the flood made it there. There are approximately two dozen chamois left spread about the slopes. )
"Well it appears we still have some work to do with cleaning up the black liquid before we continue on, no time like the present, lets get to it. Anyone got a shovel I can use so I can start digging a burial pit for the chamois and then burn then in the pit?" Magnus says. One a deep enough hole is made, Magnus will use Prestidigitation to start a small campfire to start burning the bodies, making sure the smoke from the burn is shielded somewhat and does not flow toward any of his companions.

( Your kinda surrounded by bare rock at the moment....though it would likely be easy enough to gather the dead animals up here and pitch them off the edge to the ones down below then bury them all once you've made the descent. or just jam them all in the lower chamber and block up the crack with rubble? Though thats gonna be pretty rank for the next person to venture in....)
Dev helps by gathering kindling, at which he is expert, as far as it goes. His expertise tells him, alas, that an open rock face is a terrible place to try to gather kindling.
The teenager is tempted to feel guilty for slaying the chamois, and does to some degree. But not much. He keeps his eye on those wandering about. Why had they surrounded the group earlier and now left them alone? Any moment they could change their mind, if that was even how to describe it, and push in on the group once again. At least, that is the tiefling’s fear, and he hums to himself nervously, ready to explode into jagged discord.
Dev tries to help the others gather the bodies, but the question of the goo and what damage it can cause seems vague to him and in his heart, he thinks someone else would be better suited to do something about it. The group did have a mission after all, and as an accomplished daydreamer, Dev well knows how one thought can lead to another and then another, and soon your time, be it an hour, a day, or a week, is over, and while you’ve done a lot of daydreaming you still haven’t gathered kindling enough for a sparrow’s nest.
"We've still got a days journey to reach the river, right?" Lokilia asks. "Once we take care of the beasts that were killed, should we move on for a bit, maybe get an idea of how far this stuff is traveling?" She helps out however she can in gathering up the animals and seeing to perhaps making a sort of cairn with rocks to inter the dead chamois.
"This is a sizeable cleanup job, and not one we are prepared for", Normont says, shaking his head in response to the request for a shovel and then helping the others as best he can, not being the strongest when it comes to gathering rocks and dragging corpses about.
He looks back the way we came, "And we don't know if we are being followed".
He instructs Amber to spend the time backtracking and looking for signs anyone is on their trail. He tells her to head to the bridge they crossed, then do a quick sweep and return. If they are not here, to head towards the river.
(OOC: @DM - Purify Food and Drink would normally purify spoiled meat. Would it work on the dead Chamois to stop any carrion feeders being infected? We could pile them by the water we intend to purify so they are also in range. Although it sounds like folk would rather carry on anyway than long rest here. Might depend on the answer to the question regarding time of day in the private chat)
( Sure. Though your unsure if the infection is passed on that way......if it is.....Lokilia bit the unfortunate Whitestone resident a couple of times.......)

"Right, right, I forgot. The brief brush with that thing has me all rattled." Magnus says as he tosses the slime coated stick aside.
Its a book...it smells bad...
