“Home sweet home! I knew my letter of recommendation would prove useful, now we can go to the Inner City if we need too, without this, we’re stuck in the Outer city.”
Zeds would start glad-handing and chatting up the help as soon as they got on the barge. He would never directly say "Dragon Cult" but he would use his way with words and such to try to lay the subtle query out there that he was looking for information about caravans leaving soon. Specially those of a more secretive nature. Zed's employs his thieve's cant where appropriate and is a bit more obvious with those who understand it, and he plays it a bit safer with those who don't. If the cult is moving plundered goods through this city on a regular basis recently then sure the labor class would have some clues about it, even if it's just that they're shady...

If nothing else, Stirling and Ironthar at least look like they could be laborers looking for caravan work. Zeds figures he himself may be a bit too scrawny for hard labor and Krackle... Well, Krackle is Krackle. So he would also inquire about how one goes about getting hired on by caravans, be it labor or protection work...
I think Boulders gate has a temple to Lathander if I remember correctly and since Lathander is worshiped by merchants and travelers he will go to the temple and ask around. Using the shelter the faithful feature to its fullest advantage.
As the group made their way into Baulder's Gate, the kobold would spend less and less time riding outside of his carriage and more time inside. he would keep his head low and avoid poking his head out the windows... leaving only the tip of his snout visible from the outside as it rolled through the streets. "I think it would be pretty easy to convince a bunch of dragon cultists that a kobold like myself is on their side... especially one driving a cart being pulled by a giant lizard." The kobold suggest to his companions that I assume are either riding inside the carriage with him or sitting in front driving. "Maybe zeds... you wear the fancy cultist mask and show off the special dagger... I can be your cultist lacky... and Ironthar and Sterling can be our hired muscle... kind of like those marauders we fought at the dragon cave." The kobold then takes a hand and gently pats the egg tucked away in the backpack he has been wearing backwards for days now. With the backpack backwards, the egg has been held in front of him and held tightly against his chest. Occasionally he will pour a little warm water on the egg and place a warm waterskin or two in the backpack before closing it back up. "We could.... say that we fled the cave... we could show them how we saved the last of the eggs from being destroyed... but I don't really want to risk the egg falling back into the hands of the cultists.."
"If the cultists are being so brazen as to strut around with the masks on then I don't think we'd have to be that tricky to find them," Zeds replies. "Though if and when we do get a lead then you are right, they could be the chips we need to prove we're for real."
Both Zeds and Sterling lines of investigation leads the Blackgate district in the Outer city north of the city wall as most northbound caravans pass through Blackgate.
An old merchant passing by suggests visiting Ackyn Selebon who operates an equipage in the Blackgate district as he sells all the necessary items for long distance freight hauling journeys.
Though many give the giant lizard krackle jr. curious glances and some even requesting if they can touch the giant lizard. No apparent cultist reveals themselves to the party.
Krackle would allow anyone that wanted to to pet Jr. as they made their way through the streets. he would direct the carriage towards the black gate district assuming the others didnt have any other ideas.
"We'll need a place to put up Jr. and the carriage, may as well keep an eye out for that as we make our way," Zeds suggests but yes, if Blackgate District and Ackyn Selebon is their only lead then that is where they go.
The party makes their way through the upper city as though they were stopped Ironthar permit allowed him to pass through the Upper City where most of the fabulously wealthy and affluent live. The Blackgate District is in stark contrast with muddy streets if you can call them streets with deep wagon ruts from countless merchant caravans passing through. Selebon's Yard is not hard to find as it close to the Black Dragon gate. Selebon is busy fixing a saddle as the leather had slit a large gash down the side.
He looks up from his work as you approach and asks "let me guess you are newly minted merchants aren't you. Now tell me if you are heading to the frozen north or the blistering south. Don't you worry I have the gear you would ever need for any long distance journey"
"Not exactly merchants but we are looking to perhaps join up with a caravan," Zeds answers with his best winning smile. As he talks he looks this Selebon up and down and tries to gauge the man, to determine if he may be part of the Harpers or Gauntlet or even the cultists. Chances are, Zeds figures, he's just a guy trying to make a gold where he can but perhaps it's best not to just assume such these days...

Zeds would allow whatever insight he gets into the man to flavor his next words but he is aiming to explain that they are looking to discreetly join a caravan leaving the city but that they don't know precisely where it is headed and when. Based on information from the insight he may or may not reveal they are looking to join up or follow cultists, depending how ge reads the man. He may go so far as to show the curved daggers or mask of the cultist rider...
Zeds gets the feeling Selebon is observing you a little too closely as if he is looking for some identifying mark.
"There are plenty of caravans willing to hire nearby. Now are you interested in a destination or maybe you don't care where you go as long as you get paid?" says Selebon.
Zeds is about to flash Selebon the cultist daggers when Stirling goes the other route and flashes his Harpers pin instead. Zeds is suddenly wary and on edge as he had been directed to Selebon when hinting around about the cult so he had been of a mind this man may have dealing with them. Then again he had kept vague on what exactly he was asking about so perhaps Stirling has the right of it...
Krackle was just about to cast a spell to create the illusion of a Tiamat tattoo similar to the one the woman cultist had right before Strirling reveals his pin. He then holds his spell and waits to see how the man responds.

Ironthar purposefully drop a cultist mask from his robes and takes it back quickly. Then he scans the crowd for reactions.
There are no reactions besides a few looks, but none reacts as if they recognize the mask.
Now does the party head to the Blackgate district and question Ackyn Selebon?
Krackle would allow anyone that wanted to to pet Jr. as they made their way through the streets. he would direct the carriage towards the black gate district assuming the others didnt have any other ideas.
"We'll need a place to put up Jr. and the carriage, may as well keep an eye out for that as we make our way," Zeds suggests but yes, if Blackgate District and Ackyn Selebon is their only lead then that is where they go.
Ironthar disappointed by the lack of reaction but quickly follow the group to Blackgate to meet with this Ackyn Selebon.
The party makes their way through the upper city as though they were stopped Ironthar permit allowed him to pass through the Upper City where most of the fabulously wealthy and affluent live. Stirling steps forward flashing his Harpers pin as he does on the inside of his cloak
"We are looking for a large caravan headed north. Hear is paying good coin to protect it's hall. Know anything?"
Zeds is about to flash Selebon the cultist daggers when Stirling goes the other route and flashes his Harpers pin instead.
