Hey all. I’m looking for a group of 4 players that want to join me in a bit of an experiment. I want to try and run a game that, for a large part, is created and DM’d by AI. Me (the human DM) and you as player will give it the input it needs and I will make sure the outcome is logical to the story. But the AI will create the setting, world, NPC’s, story, and quests.
Before we start the game, I will ask the AI to come up with a list of possible settings and we will decide as a group what we want to play. After that, I will hand over the reins to the AI (with some moderation from me of course)
The only things that won’t be generated, are the player characters. There is where you come in. If you want to join me in the experiment, please post here or send me a DM with the following info:
Name:
Age:
Experience with DnD:
What do you like about DnD:
How you feel about AI in DnD:
Idea for a character (I would suggest to keep this short as we do not know what the setting wil be)
The game will be played via Discord and you will need to create a character using DnD Beyond.
Experience with DnD: Started playing in 1977 and continued in fits and starts over the decades.
What do you like about DnD: One gets to use their imagination to 'be' something similar or totally different from their normal personality. Fantasy landscapes; magic; magical creatures. It's all good. With a good DM that can make 'verbal pictures' with their descriptions, one can be transported.
How you feel about AI in DnD: Uncertain. I've seen plenty of A.I. generated character images. Some are good; some not so much. Not seen anything by A.I. as far as story creation.
Idea for a character (I would suggest to keep this short as we do not know what the setting will be)
I spend way too much time creating characters with DD&B's character creator. I have one that is fun (for me). Not certain how a DM (or the A.I.) might handle it.
Basically, DDB has him listed as "SLEET ->Male, Fairy Sorcerer 2"
DDB has a really piss poor listing for fairies (which SHOULD have been better with "The Wild Beyond the Witchlight"... but....
me, I have a link to pixies. I kept thinking of this character as being 'like' Tinkerbell... small (should be tiny but... DnD *shrugs* ) and able to generate 'pixie dust' since that is their 'arcane focus'/ material substitute for all the typical magic materials B.S.
NOW for the how and why... sorry, this is not 'short and sweet'..
Background Origin for SLEET
Punished >> You grew up as a normal, human child. Actually, you were a bit of a brat. Things did not improve as a young adult. You found out you had some minor power and abused it at every turn. By some unknown circumstance, you stumbled through a fey crossing by chance during a twilight stroll in the woods. Wandering in the Feywild, you left a path of damaged plant life, injured animals and a polluted pool of a nymph.
The Queen of Winter took note and decided the best punishment would be to become Fey... to see how it is to live as a fey. Perhaps, if you can survive AND 'do certain tasks' to make amends, you might be turned back into a human one day. Perhaps. Time has passed and the years have blurred in your memories. You gradually fell under the Feywild’s spell and learned a little about the nature of the mercurial tricksters that dwell there. And still, the Queen has not removed this 'lesson'.
When you finally returned to your home plane, you did not come back unchanged. Although your memories of the Feywild grow fainter with each passing year, your heart swells with a mixture of fear and joy at the prospect of one day venturing back to the Plane of Faerie — your 'lesson' one day coming to an end
What do you like about DnD: The ability to create, make choices within the story, collaborate, and having fun
How you feel about AI in DnD: I am very curious. I know how well it works in my field (education) so I would love to see what kind of story it could come up with.
Idea for a character (I would suggest to keep this short as we do not know what the setting wil be) A Druid of some sort......I enjoy playing druids. Anymore than this I would need setting ideas. I like to write my character into the settings and story rather then a generic bland character.
I am on discord and play a game or two there. That would be easy for me.
What do you like about DnD: Rp is and always has been my favorite part of DND. That and making a character for a world, a unique character that can really flow into interesting and unique scenarios.
How you feel about AI in DnD: I am hopeful. AI is definitely still growing and improving, and I'm hopeful it will be able to work in a dnd campaign as complex and in depth as possible
Idea for a character (I would suggest to keep this short as we do not know what the setting wil be) - I feel like a warforged would be an interesting character to try out, perhaps a barbarian or a fighter? Alternatively, I've had my eyes on an aarokocra ranger, that I'm also really excited to try.
Experience with DnD: 4 years of in person, virtual, and play-by-post
What do you like about DnD: I love the backstories of characters and being able to play them! I also enjoy role playing.
How you feel about AI in DnD: AI would be really cool for D&D! I have a character who I used AI to help create a backstory for, and I’m excited to play him at some point (not this campaign though, as he is set in the Forgotten Realms).
Idea for a character: My idea is a half-elf warlock who is married to their patron. Open to changing it, since I only have access to The Fiend for the patron but it would be kind of fun and humorous to play!
What do you like about DnD: I've always enjoyed writing and creative roleplay so that side appeals to me, but I also really just enjoy coming together as a group to solve a problem or figure out a solution to a task. I like the process of thinking of an idea and then having the characters execute it, then watching how the consequences play out within the story. Even when it backfires, it's still really fun.
How you feel about AI in DnD: Intrigued, in a word. I've seen a lot of debate about it and how to implement it within games, as well as some ideas for experimentation, but I've never seen it actually executed. So I'm really just interested to see how this goes.
Idea for a character: I like to build around the party but maybe a ranger. I've been really digging rangers as an underappreciated class recently.
I think this is an incredible idea! I've seen something similar executed beautifully, with the added twist that she's a Pact of the Tome warlock who's patron is (or is trapped in?) their tome.
If you're interested in checking out someone else's take on a similar concept, the character is Millicent, played by Damian_May.
Experience with DnD: 3 years 5e, several years with AD&D back in high school
What do you like about DnD: Social interactions, RP, and the chance to get away from it all, plus the fluid method of writing a story
How you feel about AI in DnD: No issues. I use it in for inspiration and ideas for the campaign I'm running right now.
Idea for a character: Two Cats, Kenku Rogue (Assassin if reaching level 3). Also open to Barbarian, as I have an idea that I've been working on, and there's the beginning of an idea for a Tabaxi Monk too... Basically flexible but prefer martials.
What do you like about DnD: collaborative storytelling where random chance can take you in unexpected directions.
How you feel about AI in DnD: I already use AI extensively as a DM. I use it exclusively for art and minor nonimportant details. Much like you'd use an assistant. I'm not sure how I feel about it taking a larger role in the process than that, but am curious enough to be part of this experiment.
Idea: I'll do anything tbh. I tend to prefer to play support or control characters. Cleric, Druid, Wizard, whichever. Hard to answer without a setting in mind.
This sounds fascinating - please post when you have a live thread going as I'd love to follow it. If you have a Discord server up and are happy to have lurkers (read but don't post) then feel free to PM the link to me, as I'd be really interested how this works (and am seriously thinking I might snag your idea!!)

Of course, if that is too far out there and might break the A.I. -- I have simpler ones
* Zar'dah'z -> Githyanki, Sorcerer/Shadow Magic, level 1
* Morning Mist -> Fairy, Cleric/Light Domain, level 3 (( okay, she's not simple... ))
*Sator Krellin -> Rock Gnome, Warlock/The Undying, level 1
... or, if need be, I can pick one of the DDB provided 'pre-rolled' characters.

Ant. Mantis. I may have to create a new 'bug themed' character. :D
Lol, I guess thri-kreen have always been an option too, we'll see how it goes!

I like seeing how the stories evolve with the contributions of each player shaping the narrative.
I have high hopes for AI driven DnD, however my experiments to date have been mixed.
Character: I will keep it simple and play a human cleric. I will select a domain to best suit the party’s needs once the group is formed.
