I'm new to dnd but have seen a decent bit of content of it, I know how it works, just dont know all the technical stuff, so might need a bit of assurance.
Welcome to the community! Your best bet is to watch the recruitment posts and apply to a new group as they're forming. A lot, I would say most, of the DMs here are happy to help a new player but it's not a bad idea to let them know your experience level when you apply, just in case.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me! I'm still fairly new (less than a year) but I'm happy to help as best as I can.
I second the welcome, and the advice! I myself love RP and improv, so delighted to greet another of the same stripe.
To amplify a bit: recruitment board is definitely your best bet. If that doesn't work out or you want to expand your options, second best is to look on the play-by-post board for games tagged, "Public", which means the GM has left it open for applications and you can PM them asking to join. I'm trying to do that with the game I'm running on here, just because I know by experience how tough it can be sometimes to find an open group.
I'm also more than happy to help with any specific questions, and please do shoot me a PM as well if you'd like to check out my thread
