I am so very sorry, sir, about your missing sister, we will help you with that just as soon as we get your pole arm squared away. I'm asking you what it is for the forms and permits and so forth...so, is it a walking stick? Or a quarter staff?
Consternation is replaced relief, segueing into concern for the missing woman and proper record keeping...
These city folk were certainly pushy, just as grandma had said.
Eirik spoke loudly, as if the man were hard of hearing. “This is my staff,” he points to the staff. “No sale, little man. I don’t have any polearms, just these.” He slaps his own arms.
Since the little man said he was willing to help find Astrid, he decided to put up with the silly formalities.

All righty then, my apologies for the misunderstanding...one second while I review the list....let's see now...bows, crossbows, and polearms...
Very well, staff is not on the list, so I shall let you keep it. Now about your sister, Astrid is it? He pulls out his notebook and pencil. When have you heard from her last?
Seeing a potentially troublesome group forming, and sighing under his breath at yet another "incident" involving Veri, a higher-ranking patrol officer approaches.
"Corporal Tealeaf. What have we here? More rabble, or more recruits?"
The officer bristles with arms -- a crossbow in his hands in a low neutral position, chain mail armor, a longsword at his side -- and looks over Eirik and the approaching PCs with an appraising glance. He's clearly experienced in sizing people up.
Corporal Tealeaf snaps to attention ...takes a breath to ponder what he is about to say....
Recruits? Yes, now that you mention it, Sir, tese will make a fine batch indeed, Sir, yes, Sir! Indeed, Sir, this gentleman, Erik is his name, was aboot te report his sister is missing...
Veri looks around at the gathering of onlookers, and then up at Erik, inquiringly.
"Oh, hell," Aamira mutters, listening to the conversation from the periphery and trying to recognize the armed man's affiliation. "What is this all about?"
Eirik hadn't meant to draw a crowd, but nature provided.
"I am searching for my sister, Astrid. She came her with one of your Christian knights, but she recently sent me word that she was in some kind of danger. This letter," he holds up the letter, "was dated three weeks ago. But it says I can find her where the Knights of St. Christopher gather."

"Hrmph. I know of no such knights in Tredroy, sirrah. Mayhaps you should check with the Mercenaries' Guild. I assume Corporal Tealeaf here was directing you that way, as his standing orders dictate. There's plenty of adventuring types, and work to be had, as well. Get yourself liveried with them, and you'll have leave to carry weapons in the city." He looks around at all the other apparent adventuring types who're watching the proceedings. "That goes for the lot of you."
Turning to the others gathered around he inquires Right then. In order to save a bit of time at the Guild if you can please tell me your names and pertinent details I'll pass that on to the Guild when we get there, please?
Aegnor squints at Verrin, a curious look on his face as he nods.
"The name's Aegnor. I'm not here for much, just going about my business... though I couldn't help but notice all of... this going on. Whatever is the matter? Some kinda guild business?"
As the short, older man steps to the diminutive guard, Aamira breathes a sigh of relief. "There you are, my friend." She steps forward, offering a friendly wave at Aegnor, but not fully approaching until they've finished their conversation. She's still not sure about all of this, and has had trouble in the past in the Christian town.
The older man perks up a little bit upon hearing the voice of someone familiar. Turning to Aamira, he offers a surprised, yet pleasant smile in greeting. "Aamira! My good friend! It's wonderful to see you." He chuckles a little bit, turning back to Verrin and changing his expression to his more standard gaze, that being somewhat stern. "So, spill the gold, son. Who's yer little friend you got there?" He points to the patrol officer.
"I wish to join no guilds, just to find my sister. And I carry no weapons."
Eirik begins to walk off again, assuming their business is concluded and that none of these folk can help him. He looks for a tavern or other establishment that might have more helpful patrons.

O crikey! I see I have gotten off on the wrong foot with this fellow...
Sleight o Hand to recover the letter from his sister 18
Right then. Pleased to meet you all, if you would be so kind as to follow me, we shall see if we can catch up to Mr Eirik there and get him pointed in the proper direction, and perhaps help him find his sister?...
Aegnor nods in response to the request, chuckling a little bit to himself and approaching slowly.
"Hm... a lost sister? Seems like an urgent issue, heh! I'd be glad to join you in your travels, Mr... dear me, I almost forgot! Never got properly acquainted with ya. What's yer name, son?"
"Eirik," the big man says. "Astrid is not lost. Well, at least I don't think so. She said in her letter," he reaches for the letter and finds it missing. "Where did it go?" he asks, looking around.

“I’m holding you responsible for this bunch, Corporal. Point out to the big man that any Christian knight errant would have been escorted immediately to the Mercenaries’ Guild. Make certain they all understand the severe consequences if they don’t properly register & store their arms, or join the Guild if they hope to carry them openly. We can’t have lawless types wandering around.”
Realizing he has messed up somehow, Verri snaps off one of his sharpest salutes ever to his Lieutenant...Yes Sir. I shall see to this matter personally.
Verri turns quickly to Eirik. I have the letter here, Sir.
To all gathered around - My name is Verri Tealeaf, Corporal of the Watch. Here in Tredroy we have a strict no carry policy in the interests of maintaining peace on the Streets. The ONLY exceptions are the Watch, and any adventurers duly registered and liveried at the Mercenaries Guild. Unwillingness to comply will result in loss of limb to start with. Since registration is much preferred the Guild shall be our first stop, after which I shall assist Mr Eirik in his search for his missing sister. Any further questions?
“We’re not allowed to carry anything?” Eirik asks, putting down his pack. “That’s a strange rule.”
He takes the letter back from Verri. “My sister didn’t just get here. She’s been in town with this knight for almost a year.”
[ooc: seems like we’re being shunted to the mercenaries guild even though I’m not carrying any weapons that are illegal. I don’t really see a reason to go there, as a player or as a character, but I guess I’ll go along as that seems like where we’re supposed to go.]
