"Oh damn it all!" Lori exclaims after seeing Veronica jump in and struggle to retrieve their blonde companion. She goes to the other end of the tub and reaches in to grab his legs, giving the strongest pull she can to try and yank him out.

Hooking her arms underneath his and lifting while he attempts to push himself off the bottom, the water still refuses to let go of Kai. Similarly, Lori isn't able to even budge him from the other end.
As his vision begins to go dark and he starts to lose consciousness, he gives one last shove off the bottom, timing it perfectly with Veronica's desperate last attempt. And the water gives. You break free of whatever force it was holding onto the warlock, and is head breaks the surface of the water at last. The dhampir drags Kai out of the tub and as far away from it as time will allow.
The water seethes and boils, lapping over the sides of the tub and cascading onto the floor...
Gasping for air and coughing water up from his lungs, Kai does his best to backpedal as the vampire pulls him out of the water and away. "Thanks." He manages to force out in between shuddering breaths. Tremors wrack his body from the oxygen deprivation, but he still manages to stand shakily, warily keeping an eye on the water falling out of the tub.
"No, I think we are," Veronica says gently, putting a hand on Kai's shoulder. "We need to get away from that pool before it tries to kill us again... and the next time we come here, we need to have a plan... and preferably a cleric as well. That was far too close for my liking..."
The vampire pauses... with the fight, if it could be called that, concluded, she just realized something.
"Wait a moment... there were four of us just a few minutes ago... where is Valanthe?"
Lori grabs her staff from the water, untangling it from the rope and quickly retreating with the others. "I remember the dwarf said the attic changes rooms everytime you come up here...So if we leave and come back, we'll be dealing with something else entirely."
"Maybe we get lucky and it's something not as bad as this."
As you look around, the Simic Valanthe is indeed missing. Either run away or disappeared by some trick of the tavern.
The water sloshing onto the floor begins to gather, swirling upwards into an aqueous creature that towers over you. Perhaps you've seen a water elemental before in your world, or read or heard about one. This creature seems similar but doesn't quite match the typical descriptions. It seems smaller, and thinner. Dangerous yes, but not as imposing. Its two elongated forearms extend towards you, and a watery maw opens in the center of the swirling mass that serves as its face. With a gurgling roar, it lunges towards you.\
Whether you intend to run or fight, roll initiative!
"Yes, they did say that... though in all honesty, I want to check whether or not that's true for myself. Even considering everything else we have seen, it sounds rather incredible that the very architecture of this building can radically change the instant we leave. Anyway, I think at the very least we should see if we can get our hands on a few healing potions before our next expedition, and I'm still holding out hope that at least one of our fellow captives can cast divine healing magic and could be convinced to join us."
Lori's eyes widen some as the creature rears upward, looming up to the ceiling as a swirling mass of water. "No way..."She breathes, briefly struck with awe before snapping back to reality.
She claps her hands together, then lifting them apart such that only her thumbs are touching. Angling her fingertips through the open doorway, she lets out a sheet of fire as she casts Burning Hands. Wary of the presence of her friend in the door, she sculpts(Evocation feature) the effects of the spell, curving the flames around Kai such that he's unharmed.
Burning Hands [2nd Level. 14 DC Dex Save] 14 Fire Damage on Fail, 7 on Sucess
After that, she darts towards the doorway of the room, getting as far out as possible.
A sprout of fire shoots out from the doorway into the washroom. Kai is able to feel the heat on his back as the flames swerve around him, reforming back in front of him to wash over the water elemental. It's much too slow to react and takes the spell squarely in its midsection, letting out a gurgling roar as the spell turns parts of its body into hissing steam.
Kai is about to argue when another tremor passes through him, and he nods instead. "You're right, I think retre-" the words fall away as the water forms into a creature before their eyes, leaping forward to attack them. He throws his arm up to shield his eyes from the intense light and heat as Lori's spell wraps around, boiling away part of the water elemental's torso. His heart beats faster in his chest as it looms over them still, and he can't help but feel a twinge of fear towards the thing that nearly drowned him.
But the Veran Oaths echo in his mind. From fear bring valor.
The words of an arcane curse fall from his lips as he brandishes the longsword with one hand. Bluish energy with black streaks swirl off the blade, streaking around the creature. With his free hand he forms and punches the air in front of him, sending a beam of crackling blue light at the elemental.
He doesn't move from the doorway of the washroom however, saying over his shoulder. "I'll follow if you think we can't beat this thing."
The things head twitches back and forth as if trying to follow the Hex as it zips around the lesser water elemental. A hole in its watery torso temporarily opens up as the warlock shoots out a blast of arcane power, closing up after allowed the beam to harmlessly pass through. The swirling mass of liquid moves forward, its form morphing into a thinner shape as it squeezes through the doorway past Kai to get to the dhampir. Aquan eyes glare down at Veronica, the one responsible for costing it its prey.
Its form expands as it rises up, crashing down like the whelm of a tide.
Veronica make a DC 13 Strength Saving Throw. On failure, take 11 bludgeoning damage, and you become grappled. On a success, you are simply forced out of the elemental's space and take no damage. You are now up.
As the elemental begins to encapsulate her Veronica leaps out of the water, pushing through the wall of water. She lashes out once, landed a blow against its midsection as it reforms into a vaguely humanoid shape. It recoils back from the attack as if in pain...But you don't think that hurt it as much as it should have.
The vampire darts out of the room afterward, blazing past Lori as she rounds the corner and makes for the stairs.
After Veronica runs out of the room alone, Lori takes a step back to the right to get a view through the door again. Seeing that Kai is still engaged with the monster, she puts her hand on the top of her staff. As she draws it away, three small motes of fire gather in her palm, swirling as they expand into orbs. "Run you oaf!"
Outstretching her hand she releases the scorching ray, sending three beams of fire at the water elemental before retreating backwards, but not going around the corner quite yet.
