I don't mind evil characters up to a point; can def see the kind who does decent things for evil/selfish reasons and maybe even helps the good guys of the party as part of a larger scheme that will cause evil in the end SO LONG AS THAT PLAN WILL TAKE SO LONG TO FULFILL that it won't come to fruition during the time your character associates with the others (e.g. the length of the campaign). And I was certainly seeing this as the grittier of the two threads where such a character would be appropriate.
In the case of this particular character though, the jobs-- especially at first-- will involve a lot of guarding caravans and similar missions through/within the Haunted Lands. That would mean a lot of fighting and either destroying or thwarting the purposes of a lot of undead that your character's god might more naturally want you to support and aid. Not an absolute stopper, but will treat this like other nonstandard cases where you'll need some background reason to be opposing undead -- at least in this particular area. As one poss, perhaps there is a war between two gods of death, and the undead here are on the wrong side? Or whatever you prefer.
Also ought to clarify that asked for planned subclass to begin getting more specific challenges ready as you all hit 2nd/3rd. Starting out at 1st
Yeah that's absolutely the goal, I would never do anything to cause actual discord with the party. As for the undead thing, the character sort of perceives undead as a vessel for control, so it would make sense that if he was against them, he wouldn't feel too bad cutting them down as the means justify the ends.
Alternatively perhaps it could be that these undead are mindless, or under the thrall of someone who blasphemed against his god, and as such they are permitted to be slain by their chosen?
Just a couple ideas :)
Yes, any of those could do it. Sounds workable enough to go ahead with this character app, & if/when they're picked for active play any remaining details can be worked out. Speaking of which...
I was thinking of making it a Boxing Day present LOL. Boxing Day is what the day after Christmas was (and I believe still is) called in England and much of Canada...so called from the little boxed presents the gentry traditionally gave their dependents and tenants (as DM I respect you enough to consider the successful characters as TENANTS and indeed tenant-owners in Sauvogia). I figure it's also a great day for anybody who might have celebrated their winter holiday by then and gotten a new D&D book for a present, to jump right in and start having fun with it!
I will have content sharing on in this campaign, so there's a good amount of material available already (PH/DMG/MM, Xanathar's Guide, Tasha's Cauldron, Ravenloft, Witchlight, Domains of Delight, and some miscellaneous pay-by-the-item content, as well as world-specific homebrew). Idk if it works the other way though, i.e. if a player did get some content I don't have as a present, idk if the other players would be able to access it because they're both in the same content sharing-enabled campaign. Question for the WOTC tech gurus, I guess, at least until it actually comes up
Boxing Day? With Presents? This day is most assuredly considered Holy for many reasons by the Tabaxi Mr’went Qoa monk enclave. Wrapping paper alone is enough to send ecstatic trills through the colony. Wishing you all a purry Christmas!
Just letting you know that if you choose me, I'm very dedicated to posting, but I won't be able to start until January 1st. Until then, I'm not going back on again.
Hi! I'm really interested in this game! Looking to run an evil character, however I play these in a way that they gel very well even in good parties :) If that's not something you'd like please let me know and I'm happy to change the concept.
My character is Montgomery Sinestrava, 2 paladin and the rest Death Cleric. A worshipper of a god of undeath, Montgomery heard the whispers of the damned when he was a mundane undertaker, urging him to take up a scythe in their name, and spread the word of his lord/lady. Since then, he has tirelessly pursued a world influenced by this god.
Montgomery has a cold voice, with an odd cadence that gives others pause when he speaks. His words are usually grave, and carry an overtone of menace. Despite this, he will more than happily assist others, if only to further the ideals of his god.
Okay application using the above stats then!
Name: Jordan (He/They)
Character name: Montgomery Sinestrava
Class: Oathbreaker Paladin/Death Cleric
Background: Hermit
Backstory: Montgomery was always reclusive, most people avoiding him due to his unsettling mannerisms and distasteful rumours. Most nights he'd toil away in the graveyard, devoted to the only people who would listen to him... the departed. He would speak to them, airing his thoughts and feelings. One night however, they whispered back. On cold cracked lips a forgotten god of deaths name once more was spoken, urging the pallid man to take up a scythe in his name, and to preach his glory. A task Montgomery was all too eager to perform...
Okay, so I admit it. My brain ... and its sense of time ... are from the Feywild. One day late isn't actually too bad LOL.
Anyhow, thread is now closed to new applications. I'll send the 6 players of the first active group the campaign link; will gladly put all the others on waitlist unless you DM me withdrawing the character. I'll begin posting the introductory scenes in the next few days ... probably before the weekend, and def by the New Yeats (spellchecker correction of a typo, but I'm a fan of Yeats so just might start calling jan 1 that from now on reLOL)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Famh Thrawn Fiadhaich - 'half elven' sorcerer (wild magic) 2, Sleeping Gods - A Dragon Warriors campaign in the Lands of Legend
Quspira Inirali - tiefling cleric (Life domain) 4, Painted's "He'll be the father of my child"
Antar al'Barmeqi - goblin warlock (The Genie: Marid) 1, THE MOON OF THORNS

Theris Dionte, shadar-kai rogue 1, Born of Stormmount
K, the invite has been sent. Congratulations to the first group, and no shame to the rest on the waitlist ... had some tough choices among interesting characters; so in the true holiday spirit I'd say its a win for everybody! :-D
