A white sheet of fog swirls around the empty wood. Cold, damp air hangs over it, seeming to pin it below the treeline. No sun can be seen, yet there's light. No moon, but darkness spreads from every shadow. An unnatural pallor hangs in the very atmosphere. Yet in a clearing, on the far west cliff of this accursed wood, there springs life. A warm glow shines bright against the smothering veil, cast like a beacon to the lost. 'Tis a campfire, around which four people seem to idle: a nervous man in luminous orange robes, a moody dragonkin with scales like polished bronze, a vibrant tiefling with a calming smile, and a stoic giant with a naturally gentle disposition.
Yet at the fringe stands a fifth: a hunter, far more reptilian, hungry, adorned in bleached bones and cloaked with suspicion.
You see the hunter slowly appoach as he puts a hand on his chest and says "I Thaux, Swift Stalker. Me child of Rhouxl, spine tearer." The reptilian slowly approaches and looks at the bonfire as he swiftly looks up and says "Why you doing on hunting grounds?"
He squats slightly and begins to circle the group as his eyes dart from side to side and eventually says "You no look like hunter. What is prey you stalking?"
"Thaux, we are not looking for prey. We are looking for someone that can help us to get away from here... but for that we need to get through the forest. Quickly. Will you help us?"
After circling the encampment Thaux pauses for a brief moment and says "I not know these lands well but if I help find someone, will you help stalk prey?"
asher walks around the fire and sits " as long as you are helping us i see no reason we cant help you , Maby i will learn something new and interesting along the way."
[Note: Dice wanted to play Lizardfolk, but didn't have access. I'm letting them run with a Dragonborn as a Lizard, on the condition that they ixnay on the dragon breath. If someone has access and can share, I'm sure they'll be grateful. But if not, just go with it.]
asher flexes his arm so it shines in the fire light in response to the question . " i am a dragonborn . proud descendant of dragons, and a scholor of magic and the unexplaned"
" mine are a proud people " he stares in to the fire " some times to proud . to the point they refuse to admit that there are things that they don't know or don't need to know. my tribe lived in proud ignorance and it was there downfall . "
Thaux eventually pauses as he sits near the fire and seems entirely fixated on the flames as he finally says "We not linger for long time, we need go if we must find people. Then you help find prey."
The hunter's stomach growls loudly in protest, but everyone is all too aware that they cannot linger on the edge of this place forever. Eventually, they must step into the beckoning fog and hope their instincts can guide them through the unknown perils that await.
Little do they know, another watches from the shadows, regarding their actions through intelligent eyes, judging their worth by their own moral standing. The unknown creature moves silently, even to the hunter, like living shadow dancing on the fringe of reality. It was watching when the floodwaters came, it lamented the Captain's final moment, it celebrated the party's endeavor, and it was ready to strike, had Thaux shown hostility. Now it watches, curious to see what happens next...
...Imagine this creature's surprise at hearing laughter coming from the depths of the fog. Inhuman laughter, shrill and cruel. The party hears it too. How could they not? But from which direction...?
Thaux immediately darts his head from side to side attempting to make sense of this odd laughter. He reaches behind his back and pulls out an arrow, setting it down on the nose of the bull skull as he pulls back a bowstring that is tied to both ends of the bull's horns.
OOC: (Can I try and roll perception to see where the laughter is coming from? Also I will take the ready action.)

Korbiña, the tiefling, watches the reptilian hunter, hoping to get an answer to her question...
Korbiña raises an eyebrow, realizing that Thaux did not understand her earlier explanations, so she tries again...
"We are searching for someone"
He squats slightly and begins to circle the group as his eyes dart from side to side and eventually says "You no look like hunter. What is prey you stalking?"
"Thaux, we are not looking for prey. We are looking for someone that can help us to get away from here... but for that we need to get through the forest. Quickly. Will you help us?"
After circling the encampment Thaux pauses for a brief moment and says "I not know these lands well but if I help find someone, will you help stalk prey?"
"Sure. At least me... not sure how much I can help though... and not sure about the others here."
Korbiña packs up her things to get moving.
Yes, what say the others?
asher walks around the fire and sits " as long as you are helping us i see no reason we cant help you , Maby i will learn something new and interesting along the way."
You see Thaux as he slowly approaches Asher as he begins to speak, "You look like brethren, but shiny. What is you?"

[Worth a try. Is that alright with the both of you?]
(Sure I guess, also my character speaks very terrible common but fluent draconic)
