Dardek sheepishly looks around Ashely at the Dragonborn "Hello Sir, yes I will come in if that's ok. You play very well. I always enjoyed the organ back home with the clerics" Dardek says keeping his eyes down as he shuffles in
Ashley stands there with her mouth agape as she stares at the humanoid in front of her. Realizing he is talking to her about the door, she hurries through after Dardek and closes it quickly behind them.
"You're... you're, why you're beautiful. I've never laid eyes upon a dragonborn before. And yes, he's right, you play most wonderfully." She looks around again at the room, trying to drink it all it, feeling like it is more of a dream than anything, "Where are we? And... did you save us?"
In response to the compliments, the dragon-person simply inclines their head in humble acknowledgement.
"I find the music soothes my friends... Settles their otherwise feral nature a bit..."
Before you can ask what "friends" the dragonperson is talking about, you both notice a mouth open in one of the many wooden chests that line the walls. The mouth stretches into a wide yawn, revealing a row of sharp teeth. The chest-creature lick its chomps with a serpentine tail before settling back into a resting position. Gazing around the room, you see a few other objects shift similarly, and you start to realize... these aren't normal treasures... They're alive!
The dragonperson continues as if all of this is perfectly normal, "The name's Onifax... Wouldn't say I saved you so much as foundyou. Though I did my level best to make you both comfortable once I did.... Oh, and this modest complex, be it ever so humble, serves as my personal residence, place of business and storehouse for some of my select inventory."
As the dragonperson speaks, they notice some grumbling coming from one of the display tables. The table itself starts sidling it's way over toward Ashley, thick saliva dripping from a mouth-like seam along its edge.Onifax responds quickly with a whistling rebuke, "Bakk!" Then barks something at the furniture-creature in a language you don't understand. Recoiling from the dragoncreature's scolding, he table immediately settles back into place like a chastened dog. Onifax sighs and shakes their head at this naughty naughty creature.
"Sorry 'bout that... As I say, they can be soothed but never quite tamed. Perhaps we ought to get some place where we can all be a little bit more at ease." They say, moving toward the stone door at the other end of the room.
"Please, come... I'd love to hear a bit more about how a couple fine chaps like you ended up lodged in a storm drain like a pair of oversauced sewer rats... Think I have my suspicions, but I'd love to hear your side of it if you'd so oblige." Onifax opens the door and beckons for you to follow them into a stone brick hallway beyond.
Dardek follows closely behind Onifax hoping the proximity to the Dragonborn will keep him from being eaten by the living furniture..."I....I have never seen furniture that comes to life and tries to eat you...."
Ashley watches in stunned silence as the pieces of furniture come to life. What other treasures did life hold that she has been held away from? This was truly incredible.
”Oblige? Of course, we owe you that and more for getting us settled safely in that room. My name is Ashley.” And she follows the Dragonborn, but finding it hard to tear her eyes from the maws of the tables and chests.
Onifax leads Ashley and Dardek through the stone door into a circular chamber, then shuts the door by sliding a stone statue of an armored human into place, making it seem as if there was never a door there to begin with.
Looking around, you find yourselves a room that looks like it might have served some utilitarian function in the city's sewer system. Mineral buildup spills from several circular grates set high on the wall. Four large metal rivets jut from the floor, vestiges of some long departed piece of equipment.
Whatever purpose the chamber originally served, Onifax now apparently uses it as a private study. The room is appointed with a fine quilted rug, several large bookshelves and a set of cushioned chairs set around a coffee table. The opposite side of the room is occupied by a large oak desk covered with books, ledgers and merchant's scales.
The dragonperson moves to the desk and begins shuffling through a few papers, jotting down some notes. After a moment, they turn their head toward you both, speaking over their shoulder, almost like an afterthought. "You're welcome to sit." Onifax says. "There's no need to fear. The chairs in this room don't bite. They're a lot less entertaining that way, but a might bit safer too."
Onifax finishes their writing with a flourish, then turns away from the desk moving to one of the chairs. "I just keep my little mimic colony in there as, well... an amusing deterrent to would-be thieves and other such troublemakers. They're a common nuisance in my line of work. So, I figure... Why not let my little headaches become the colony's next meal. It makes for a nice harmonious, mutually-advantages coexistence. And ain't that about the best any of us can hope for out of life?
As Onifax says all this, they takes a seat in one of the chairs and cross their legs. "But enough of my babbling. Talk to me. Tell me how a pair of individuals such as yourselves ended up lodged in the teeth of the city's storm drain system... Don't suppose it has to do with that boat that came to port yesterday... The one with the naked man on the mast..."
Onifax studies you with great interest... curious about your reply.

Dardek sits down and listens. When Onifax asks a question Dardek responds as if programmed to answer right away and honestly, while not makein eye contact "Yes I was on that boat. I was whisked away from the Clerics of Qoneus in the night, put on a ship and transported to that ship where a bald man inspected me and then had me locked up. Before I could be locked up Ashley helped free me. I jumped off the boat and almost drowned. I woke in the other room."
Once Ashley has noted the exit out of the room, she takes a seat though finds it hard to get her mind off the other room, "Mimic colony? I like that." she almost muses to herself.
When Dardek starts answering them, she snaps a bit back to attention, "Yes, I arrived wherever here is by that ship, I'm sure of it. Brother Emmit has that symbol on everything, I'm sure it was on the mast of the boat as well. That's the bald man that Dardek here is talking about." Her amusement from the other room completely drains as the subject turns to that man. "I pray I never see him again."
"Somehow I was able to actually unlock the cage I was in and in the process of trying to escape they brought this man on board and well... I wasn't going to let him have my fate so I took him with me." Turning to Dardek, "I'm sorry you almost drowned, I don't know what I would have done if I had been the reason you died."
Dardek smiles a small smile and nods to Ashley "I never thanked you..With everything that happened....Thank you Ashley. I will pay back this life debt one day until then, I am in your service"
Ashley finds herself speechless. "Um.. you're welcome. Though try not to hide under the bed next time." she says smiling, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
As you tell your ordeal Onifax studies you, stroking their chin with great interest.
"...and now here you are. The reclaimers' own playthings... Reclining in my sanctum. Free to live your messy lives just like the rest of us..."The dragonperson shakes their head in awe. "What a time this must be for you both..."
Leaning in close, Onifax adds... "So, what do you plan to do next? Now that you got this freedom you fought so hard for? The whole future's laid out for you, open as can be. Which way will you direct your feet if you don't mind me askin."

It's hard to say whether or not the dragonborn is hiding something... Without much context about the outside world, it's hard to put specificity on recognizing an individual's motivations, but you do have a pretty keen sense about people in general. So, as far as you can understand... There seems to a bit more than casual interest going on for Onifax, but you don't pick up anything that you read as a threat, necessarily. They've made no moves to bind or obstruct you. Their body language is studious, but more or less at ease.
