Using the Dancing Lights cast by Kuuraht, Matthÿse will try to reach Freytha after using his bonus action to activate Gem Flight. A pair of translucent, purple dragon wings manifests on Matthÿse's back.
If he's able to reach Freytha, he'll try to pull her out of the water as an action. Athletics: 20
He can speak telepathically to the Water Weird using his Psionic Mind feature (30ft range), so he'll try to negotiate:
"If you're hungry, we can give you food, just release our friend and it's yours!" Persuasion: Unable to parse dice roll.
Sadly, the Weird dodges both of Calanin's attacks, diving underwater before reappearing. Flying over the water, Matthÿse doesn't notice Freytha, but he does notice a faint light under the tainted water.
Pleading to the Weird to spare his friend, Matthÿse gets a chilling reply. "None shall escape the wrath of Vecna, not even you. I'm sure His Great and Grand Lich won't mind a few small deaths."

Since Matthyse didn't have a chance to use his action with the Athletics check (he can't see Freytha even with the Dancing Lights), then he would have used it to cast Bless on Kuuraht, Calanin and Saferetan. Then, he will use his movement to hold Kuuraht and fly above the water as far as he can so his friend doesn't get hit (if he will allow it).

I cast False Life, giving myself some extra health [+5hp]. Throwing off my cloak and shirt, anything that could weigh me down, I turn to the others.
"Keep it busy, or kill it. I'm going after her."
I then leap in where Freytha was last seen, hoping my natural dark vision can help me~!
Diving into the tainted waters of the lake, you find immediately that this isn't going to be as easy as you thought it was, although you can see Freytha. She's lying unconscious in what appears to be a ruined temple (that kind of looks like a real life minecraft underwater temple), which emits a small glow.
"heya buddy, I know that you're a water weird. Isn't a little weird that 'cha doing this? I hope you don't like living because...that ship is gonna sail very soon."
