Grabius will start going down the stairs, stealthily, checking for traps; Or, if we're on the balcony and don't have access to the stairs, he'll tie off a rope from his bag to the balcony and climb down quietly.
Fortunately, you did have access to the stairs, you just had to walk about 5 feet off to the side. As you crept across the floor you didn't make a sound. You could see one small door to the side and a huge set of double doors in front. One picture of a noble in particular stood out to you, it seemed to watch you.
OOC: If Boxey wants to do anything, I'll take my turn after her. Otherwise...
Grabius will reach into his pouch, pull out a few ball bearings, and toss them towards the picture on the wall--to see if it reacts, flinches, or if they might trigger anything.
Grabius whispers back, "Agreed. Just starting to get a little jumpy..." and I'll try to move away from the picture, hugging along the opposite wall, and stealth forward. I'll keep bouncing my eyes back and forth between what's in front of me and the picture, for any sudden movements; basically a "take a step, glance, take a step, check...".
up or down, left or right
Laissez les bons temps rouler
So... I'm assuming we're upstairs since we can look down, correct? Are the double doors behind us, to the left, or to the right?
Grabius would be cautious at the very least and want to perceive as much around him before he starts wandering about.
While the room seems empty thumping can be heard in the far distance.
(You're upstairs yes, in a room divided by said stairs)

Zerxius follows about 5 feet behind

The ball bearings ricochet off of the picture and land on the carpet beside you. The eyes remain locked on you.
I think we should be careful doing tricks like that Zerxius mutters

You see nothing out of the ordinary, as you get closer to the picture you hear whispers from the front door.
Grabius pauses to see if he can make out anything from the whispers. He'll then make his way over to the picture to inspect it closer.
(Perception check please, and this goes for anyone listening)
Perception: 21
Laissez les bons temps rouler
It sounds unlike voices when you listen closely enough, more like some arcane fizzing, possibly a gateway to another plane.
Just out of curiosity...
Listening closely reveals nothing more, it would probably take supernatural hearing to get anything from the fizzing.
I will go and inspect the small door.
