Hurthrun puts a hand to his (magnificent) beard and strokes it as he thinks
"How about "Thor's Hammer", (As he says this Hurthrun gesticulates in the air to highlight the name) cause we gonna hit em hard and we gonna go in like a lightning bolt........................................ Also cause it's what me wife named my penis!"
Hurthrun rolls over laughing after that last statement, the ale quite obviously hitting him harder than he expected
At this time, Baleith sees Frord approaching from the corner of his eye. He sees that you are engaged in a conversation, he doesn't want to disturb, so he just stops and starts picking dirt from under his fingernails with a knife, a little bit outside of hearing distance from you.
" speak of the Devil " I say to the elf. " I'll leave this one for the odd couple to decide "
I leave and start asking around where one might find a half-ling by the name of Tener, in this godforsaken boat. That is if I'm unfamiliar where the wounded are kept.
Reginald, you know that there is an infirmary at the ship, where the priests of Tempus tend to take care of the wounded. Most of the people are not very happy with you calling the boat godforsaken, and while many of them do remember seeing the halfling here or there, their reports seem conflicting.
At the same time, you know that all recruits are supposed to show up for the morning orders at the crack of dawn. Maybe you can see him there.
Ford walks up to the others, greets everybody, and asks Hurthrun:
"Hurthrun, are you all right, my dwarven friend? I got a bit angry when you went down."
I mean it in the same sense as "bloody boat", or "what does one have to do to get a damn drink around here" I do not think that god has forsaken this boat or that the boat is a pile excrement's.
I go to the infirmary, unless its the crack of dawn and I'm supposed to be somewhere.
(I figured that you talked to the rest of the party in the early morning after your encounter, so it would be time for the morning assembly)
As you are about to start to look for the halfling and as Frord is about to start, you hear the morning call of the bell on the ship, as well as a trumpet. This signals that you are to wake up and report on deck for duty. At the beginning this was difficult, but you quickly learned the ways of the Legion, salutation, greeting your officers, marching in formation, and that you should generally do as you are told. (unless you specifically state so, I will assume that now you show up here in uniform, you stand in formation, salute the officers, etc). While almost everyone on board hates the Whip, his methods are apparently quite effective, as the ragtag bunch of former slaves, fugitives from the law, swindlers and drunkards seems more like a military unit every day.
Day seven of the journey begins aboard the Alphea, the eleventh day of the first month of the summer gods. As you quickly glance around as you stand at attention in formation, you see Frord next to the three of you (he has generally been accompanying the three of you for the last few days). You also see the halfling at the back of the line. Due to his limp, he has mostly been assigned to kitchen duty.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After finishing my daily duties, I seek the half-ling out.
If he's still doing his duties, I will assist him and make small talk (unless I know that; that is strictly forbidden, then I will wait for him to finish and engage him later in the day)
If he's willing to talk to me, I will ask him about his injuries and how he's feeling? I will ask him about his prior life? What his occupation was, how he made his living?
If he seems hesitant to open up to me. Will / Insight save DC:9 and also remind him that I did put my neck on the line for him. I was just unsuccessful, despite my very, very persuasive argument (natural 20 roll).
Then I will ask him about his skills? and if he really wants to spend the rest of his days cooking, dry mutton and rabbit stew for the rest of his life "heavily insinuating that there is another option" Persuasion:11 , 28
Also a general insight check to everything he says to me (If at all of course): 10 , 6
After his duties, Reginald does find Tener, who is washing the dishes in the kitchen in a big wooden tub. Reginald offers to help him, which the halfling aaccepts. He tells very little about himself, and Reginald gets the impression that he is mostly lying. When he tries to convince the halfling about considering other options, Tener declares that he prefers washing dishes and peeling vegetables to being beaten to a pulp by pirates, but of course listening to other options does not hurt.
Baleith, Hurthrun, do you intend to do anything? Hurthrun, do you reply to Frord?
I turn to Frord and reply "Not to worry my friend, it's taken more than that to finish this one off! How are you finding your induction into the legion? And have ye heard any interesting information?"
"Glad to hear that, my dwarven friend!" he looks around and when he sees that there is nobody around, he continues "It is not that tough, but I really hope that once we get off this boat things will be different. I did not join the Legion to mop floors and peel potatoes like a slave again, I came here to fight for glory. As far as information is concerned, I heard that they the Seventh is in deep shit, which is why they resorted to accepting almost anyone." his face hardens for a second "they are taking us to the Black Coast."
Baleith, Hurthrun, roll for knowledge History (Reginald is not here, he went looking for the halfling, but he can also make a check because I suppose you would tell him later)
I spend most of my day trying to be the most efficient soldier of the bunch, whatever the chore. I try to raise the moral of the ones around me for them to be efficient as well. Charisma: 10
At the end of the day i ask around to see if some people are motivated to practice and fight. Persuasion : 7
Your daily routine on the boat is pretty predictable. It consists of training/learning and performing various simple chores, involving cooking, cleaning, and the maintenance of the boat. Just being somewhat enthusiastic puts Baleith ahead of most of the others,. Most people were not happy to be here to begin with, and they are getting tired of the long trip. Still, when they see his enthusiasm, Baleith manages to raise the morals of at least a few of the soldiers around him.
When Baleith asks about practice at the end of the day, most people are too tired to do such things - except for Frord, who is always ready to spar, and he gladly accepts your challenge. As you train with him, you get the impression that he is a strong fighter, although a bit reckless at times.
When he mentions the Black Coast, it means nothing to you. You are not from the Western part of the empire, and while you have heard of this place before, you have no idea where or what it is.
The day you talk to Frord, the captain of the ship announces that you will arrive to the Black Coast soon, and you can already spot the land the following morning. As you approach, you can make out more and more of the land that is apparently called the Black Coast. It looks pretty wild and untamed, with many forests and mountains and few settlements. The city where you will arrive is apparently called Negrurasul. From the distance, it hardly seems like it deserves to be called a city compared to Randserport or Aesis. It is situated where a mountain range meets the sea, with a citadel sitting on the top of a hill at the center of the city. The city of Negrurasul seems to have sprung up around the citadel and the port where you are about to arrive.
While there have been no orders yet, most people are going below the deck to pack their things and get ready. Is there anything you want to do before the ship hits the shore?
"Ahhh it'll be GREAT ta get me legs back on solid ground, fine ale aplenty too I reckon and even finer women! Though I'm sure none can compete to ye lassy!" Iyells with the last part directed at Baleith. After I say that I turn to Baleith, Reg and Frord and suggest we should ask around and see if anybody can help us figure out exactly which fine establishment we can peruse the local liquor section and their finer selection of the fairer sex.
Frord very much agrees, and says that he hopes to never have to set foot on a ship again.
After the ship lands, you are ordered to help it unload in the military part of the port. It is basically like any other port: dirty, loud, smelly and crowded. The only exception is that instead of the regular guards there are legionnaires guarding the perimeter. You grab your stuff, and you are directed to your barracks inside the citadel. You have to climb up a long flight of stairs from the port to the citadel. As you look around when you reach the top of the hill, you realize why this area is called the Black Coast: everywhere you see, there are black basalt cliffs and rocks. Negrurasul is situated in a natural bay surrounded by these cliffs, it seems to be an ideal place for a port that can be easily defended. Other than the citadel you are standing in front of that towers above the city, you can also see two smaller forts on the top of the cliffs at the entrance of the bay. When you enter the citadel, you can see that it is not as big as it first seemed, but it is well built. It has thick walls, it is built in the shape of a pentagon with towers on each corner, and a taller one in the middle of the citadel. You can see that the tower must be the central building where the commander lives, and there is a small temple of Tempus attached to it. Your barracks are by the wall at the back of the citadel, the furthest away from the port. It is simple, a bit worn, but relatively clean, with several big rooms with straw beds for about 20 people each.
As you occupy your barracks, Servius Sentius Zhorgok steps in "Long live the Emperor! Recruits, welcome to Castel Negrorasul. This will be your home from now on. Occupy your beds, wash up, and you've got the rest of the day and next morning to blow some steam off. Keep your wits about you if you want to keep your money, this is not a very safe town." Zhurgok starts to grin "Don't get caught doing anything illegal or you will be court-martialed. Otherwise I don't care what you do, just be ready to report for duty on the parade square in front of the main tower at noon tomorrow. Dismissed!" The room erupts as the Quartermaster steps out, this is what everybody has been waiting for.
You were too busy following your unit climbing up the citadel and trying to get a general sense of what the city is like. As quartermaster Zhorgok makes his announcement, you get out of the barracks as soon as you can. Given that you have never been here, you realize that you have no idea where the nearest inn is. To be more exact, you have no idea where anything is. This city is completely foreign to you, you have never heard of it, you don't even know what kind of people live here, what kind of drink they have, even less what language they speak. You realize that you have two options, either to ask somebody for directions, or to attempt to discover the city on your own.
You see a couple of soldiers on guard at the gates and various other strategic points of the citadel, some others playing a game of dice and drinking something from their canteens on the parade square that seems to occupy the center of the citadel, and some others training (shooting arrows, fencing) by the wall. You also see Zhorgok walking away from the barracks in front of you, a priest of Tempus exiting from the chapel, a few soldiers apparently going about their business carrying wood and stone, cleaning, and so on, and a few middle-aged women laughing and walking slowly with vairous cooking ingredients towards what you presume to be the kitchen.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As much as I enjoy easy middle aged women, I'm drawn to the men playing cards. I walk over to them and state my name and business. I ask them if I can join them in a game of dice and a friendly drink. 9Persuasion
"I have 10gp on me, Im willing to gamble with half of it"
The soldiers who play dice look surprised, look at each other, then you, then one of them, a seasoned veteran with a front tooth missing, greets you: "Long live the Emperor to you, too, recruit. Sit down, have some wine. We are playing dice poker, are you in? Starting bet is one silver, you start." And he hands you the wineskin and five dice.
"Lad I think in battle as a squad we need one person to give directions!
