he is quite oblivious to ja’s transactions at this point, and doesn’t notice that half money works.. he is still convinced two wrongs don’t make a right, and that the idea stuck true in other realms as well
Most of the people there seems exhausted and disinterested in your group. While you do note a few people give a curious glance to Ja'Dul, most keep to themselves. Except for one to which you give a menacing look to, an urchin. The filthy boy stumbles back at your look, falling on his behind as he scrambles away from your party.
(Just to correct, currently no one in the party knows where the Jolly Emporium is.)
Pushover follows along with the group to the Dock Ward, only speaking when spoken too, and is fascinated by the poor population. Even though she had a rich upbringing off her father's adventuring profits, she was not prejudiced to these people at all, just hadn't been to this side of town before. In fact, she rather enjoyed the experience, though when Ja'Dul buys the dirt cheap healing potion, she can't help but have some suspicions. When her father was alive, he had always warned her of the risk of dodgy potions, regaling her with tales of his adventuring days and saying things such as 'Back when I fought the Minotaur of Malabath, I swigged a potion I thought was going to give me haste, but instead I shrunk to the size of a housecat! Was not ideal whatsoever...', and then when he was on his deathbed, he made sure that she only bought him the most quality healing potions, never willing to save some cash and skimp out on them, just in case she was unlucky enough to buy a bad batch accidentally, just because she was looking for something cheap, and then have suffer some detrimental ill effects. And so, with her father's guidance in mind, she taps Ja'Dul on the shoulder to ask 'Umm, excuse me, do you mind if I check that potion? I have no issue with you buying it, of course, but it was just so cheap that I wanted to make sure it isn't dangerous, that's all!' If Ja'Dul lets her, she'll take the potion, swill it about in the bottle and scrutinise the colour, looking for any imperfections in the hue or undissolved solutes that might indicate that it's cheaply made, or not what it appears to be [Investigation/Arcana: 16]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Keeping an eye on his surroundings, but mostly hoping his large stature would keep ne'er-do-wells at bay — as was the family way — Gabriel moved alongside the party, taking care to match their pace. Upon seeing the Urchin rush backwards and attempt to slink away in fright, using his long limbs (35 ft movement speed) to try and intercept the child before they fled.
"Excuse me, little one." — he spoke, his tone calm and tender, visibly hoping not to scare the urchin even more — "I have a little job I was hoping you'd do. There may be some coin in it, if you're interested?"
The fiery-bearded man waited for a response, and if it felt positive, then he'd move to inquire about the Jolly Emporium.
(Mechanics breakdown: I saw that a perception check had already been rolled. If he can, then Gabe'd like to roll one, to see if anything jumped out at him. Regardless, building off of the urchin running away thing, he'll try and catch up to and persuade the boy to answer his questions. I decided to pre-emptively roll perception and persuasion here, just in case. Feel free to use neither, just one, or even both. If in the future, you'd prefer me to not roll unless you specifically ask me to or something, let me know! Trying to be of assistance, not a problem. Thanks!) Perception: 8 Persuasion: 20

The urchin is almost crashes into you as stops before you. He raises his hands, as if used to it. "Didn't do anything, mista! I ain't been stealing or begging round any of the other wards. And I ain't the ones insultin' City Watch, that be the bone lady's crew!"

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
The urchin is almost crashes into you as stops before you. He raises his hands, as if used to it."Didn't do anything, mista! I ain't been stealing or begging round any of the other wards. And I ain't the ones insultin' City Watch, that be the bone lady's crew!
Making a mental note of what the child had said, and subtly reaching his hand towards his coin pouch, to feel if it was still there — considering the child had just told him he hadn't been stealing in other wards, which meant he had been in this one — Gabriel spoke, still calm: "I believe you. And I'm not here to make trouble... not if I don't have to. Me and that group over there." — he pointed — "They've got a job for you. Someone who'll get us to the Jolly Lamp, to deliver a message. You do that, you get paid. Think you're up to it?"
Valiant folded his arms, proud of the group’s efforts… from his view of things, he’d with but a singular glance, send his ally after a suspicious urchin, and Ja and pushover were investigating the local merchants.. the way of putting but a little bit of sight on the scale and getting the most done…
“maps and potions are but trinkets… I myself trust a guide… cause if they mess with us, we also know who is gonna hear about it… an object can’t be punished for lying yah know…” *he speaks kind of to himself, but deff in listening distance of Ja and pushover.
“hey you two, think Gabe needs help? I think he caught a live one… wonder if he learned anything about the local gangs in these parts… the law types of places always got someone who runs the streets… BESIDES the city guards”
he winks at pushover, and raises his left eyebrow twice towards Ja with a ever more friendly smile. The critter wasn’t so bad…. Seemed down right cultured.
"Yea right, like I'd believe that. You all just want to meet with with the other city watch there and take me in for questioning. Probably take me into that hole that opened up. Not interested!" He turns away and tries to break into a run away from Gabriel.
Most of the talk going around is about the earthquake that had happened just two days ago. Some are saying it wasn't natural and was possibly made by magic. Other news is about a failed assassination in the South Wards, a female half elf has been seen fleeing the scene and is wanted for questioning. While other trivial news is about Acquisitions Incorporated, talk about how it's trying to get into the city politics.
Sigurd seeing the boy about to dash away reaches back for the 3 lb net hanging on his belt at the small of his back, decides that it would be a bit overboard to catch the kid that way and just shouts (with a bit of menace in his voice) instead, "BOY!!! You stop right there! You'd be better off just taking the money and getting the man the directions he wants for a bit of coin. Or you can be looking over your shoulder wondering when he'll meet you again... YOUR CHOICE."
The urchin stops and gives a glance back, "If I ain't leading you all there then that's fine. Five gold." He holds his hand out.
"That's a rip off, I'll give directions for three gold."The gnome pipes in.
"**** you Jerr! Two gold then!"
"A single gold and I'll even guide you there! And language!"
"Fine, screw you Jerr! My final offer is two gold and just directions. Choose or don't, I don't care. You don't know my name and I doubt you'd remember a street kid like me. I just wanna go comb the beach like I was going to do."

Valiant carried a self righteous grin across his mug, arms folded watching the chaos.
“No matter who gets the gig, Two gold is our final offer! one gold upfront, and one when we get out of the place for you to stand guard outside… never know if we need some help from there as well”
he had his reasons for suggesting the arrangements, from habit those who had another payment coming worked that extra bit harder, and were that extra bit truthful… people often counted and spent (in their minds) paychecks they hadn’t actuallly received yet!
”Ja and pushover, you two done yet with the merchant? Let’s get a move on… those jolly sweets aren’t gonna eat themselves !” he didn’t mention the sinkhole yet, in case there were prying ears about.
Gabriel offered a light sigh, and once again felt for his coin purse. Should he feel it there, then he'd then cross his arms and ride his newfound dour companion's intimidation tactic through. If it wasn't, then he'd be having a different kind of conversation with the child.
Not particularly caring how the conversation unfolded, or who led them, Gabe simply studied the arguing duo's demeanours, not expecting to find honesty or kindness, but doing his best to gauge whether or not something nefarious was going on.
“Let’s hope Polly’s has iced cream delectable…. After we figure out the problems, I’m sure to be hungry, we mustn’t forget to treat ourselves at times”
Valiant toys, ready to go see about this sink hole.
The urchin shakes his head, "Ain't going near that hole or city watch, it's yours Jerr." The kid walks away as the gnome, Jerr, comes around his stall. "Don't mind the kid, street rats really only look out for each other. But an enterprising business man like myself is more than capable, if would follow me lords and ladies." Jerr gives a slight bow as he holds his hand out, "I'll take that first gold then I'll show you all the way to your destination."
(Feel free to roll preemptively for skill checks. At most, I will intervene if the skill would not fit for the situation or if it would require more checks. For this case, since this is two differing people on different sides, I would need two insight checks, one for Jerr and one for the Urchin.)
