Curious to see how well Adventurer’s League content translates to PbP settings, and how long a module of a recommended hour duration can take in a PbP settings.? So am I.I am looking for people to run DDEX-01-04 “Dues for the Dead.”In addition to being a relatively straightforward adventure, it has the advantage of being the only non-hardcover legal module I own, so it will be a good test case. The rules are as follows:
Adventurers League Legal characters only. In general, this means stats are done with array or point buy only, alignment must be non-evil (or lawful evil), and choices must adhere to the “PHB+1” rule of adventurers league. (e.g. if you pick a class from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, you cannot pick spells from Xanathar's, and so on.) Full rules can be found in the player’s guide rules. (They are not nearly as complicated as that PDF makes it seem; for new AL players, I am happy to help you work through building a legal character.)
Dues for the Dead is a “Tier 1” module, character levels 1-4 are allowed as long as they are otherwise AL legal.
AL requires three players minimum, seven players maximum, for a legal table.
PvP is not allowed in AL.
Season 8 rules are not finalized yet, so this will start under current season (season 7) rules for experience and rewards.Depending on the speed of PbP, season 8 rules may be finalized before we finish; we will stick with the rules at start time unless WoTC posts guidance saying we must change rules if we finish past a particular date. If this goes well enough for me to try more AL modules on PbP here, new ones after that date will play under Season 8 rules.
Please only apply if you can confidently post daily.I am in US/Pacific time, so the majority of my posts will be during those daytime periods. I am new to PbP DMing, so forgive me my growing pains on that front. (If you have run a PbP game yourself, and wish to give some pointers, I'm all ears.)
All players must have a DCI number. That can be shared privately, as opposed to in the public thread, if you prefer. With that DCI number and a record of what you have played, you can bring your AL legal character to any table, either online or in the real world.
Keep posts PG or PG-13
Roleplaying is absolutely encouraged, except where it is used as an excuse to go after another player. Play with your fellow players, not against them.
An application should contain:
Character Name/Race/Class/Level
Brief summary of character backstory
Link to an AL-valid character sheet. (As noted above, I am willing to help in creation if needed for new players.)
Player name/nickname and DCI # (for AL logging purposes only; can be shared in PM if preferred)
No preference for either AL newbies or AL veterans; I am simply looking for a balanced group of between three and seven people who want to try an AL module in this format. I may cap at five if I think it might be overwhelming as a first PbP adventure.
The recruiting thread will remain open until a group is finalized; the earliest the module will begin will be August 8th or 9th. Good luck!
Race: Kobold (My PHB+1 is Volo's Guide to Monsters), let me know if you'd rather not have a monster race as a player and I can come up with something else.
Class: Cleric, Nature Domain
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Level: 1 (She's a new character so I assume she has to be level 1? I'm new to Adventurer's League.)
Background: Keksi is the apprentice of the shaman Deksi of the (tribe name), a kobold tribe. She has left her home cavern in the upper Underdark as part of a coming-of-age ritual, in which she must travel into the dangerous and bright overworld and commune with the spirits she finds there.
Aasimar were introduced as a playable race in Volo's guide, so that would be your +1 - it would not impact anything now, but subclass and spell decisions later on would have to be sourced from the PHB.
Brief summary of character backstory: Ralotumal was an entertainer for the past three centuries. He traveled the countryside singing, playing his lyre, and telling and spinning tales. But he recently had an encounter with something profound: "the light." After his experience, he was blessed with new gifts and given a new purpose: to vanquish the undead.
Unfortunately, DMG variants are not allowed in AL play unless you have a specific certificate for it. It is on the player's guide at the original link:
All of the races and classes presented in the Player’s Handbook plus one other resource from those listed below are available to build your character (PHB+1). Indicate your “+1” on your character’s adventure logsheet when you choose it. As new resources become available, they’ll be added to this list.
• Elemental Evil Player’s Companion (EEPC)
• Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide (SCAG) • Volo’s Guide to Monsters (VGM) • Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (XGE)*
(snipped a few lines)
NOTE: Races that grant flight at 1st level, and options presented in other resources—such as the Death Domain found in the Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG), or content from the various Unearthed Arcana articles—aren’t allowed for play unless you possess specific campaign documentation that indicates otherwise. Option: Human Languages is available to all characters; regardless of their “+1.”
In a normal campaign, I would not be a stickler, and say to play whatever combination will be the most fun, but, to keep this AL-legal, an Aasimar is going to have to come from Volo's.
I'd like to apply with a halfling fighter; my +1 is SCAG, for the City Watch background.
Marrow Yellowleaf, Stout Halfling Fighter, Level One
Marrow served five years in the town guard, rescuing kittens from trees, helping small children find lost toys, and assisting drunk elderly folk home at night. It was a peaceful life, and one he thought suited him well. Then one dark night, true, monstrous villainy came to his little town, and so did a band of heroic adventurers who faced the horrors, seemingly without fear. Inspired by their example, Marrow resigns his commission and sets out into the world in search of adventure and the chance to do real good.
Since this has come up a couple of times in PMs, I should say it on thread as well. I will be enabling content sharing on this campaign, so if you have a race or class that you want to try, it will be available. I will only check to make sure that it follows the rules in the AL player pack, but, other than that, feel free to choose whatever fits the character design you want to play.
Hey there, not really done AL before for 5e. I did run a lot of 4e LFR, so familiar with the system. Here's a character I made (additional sourcebook will probably be XGtE)
ddb.ac/characters/4365727/iNF7gg
Rather than being in the holy joes, I made a ranger who hates undead. More of a hunter of such abhorrent creatures, rather than divinely tasked with their eradication. I can provide a DCI number if accepted :-)
Driven by strange voices in his head his whole life, Kelvin found peace in a monastery. Now what he found there is driving him back out into the world.
After a near-fatal start in a seedy outfit fencing magic items out of Luskan , Bastian pursues new work as a dealer in secrets. He seeks to understand the mysteries behind the walking dead of Phlan. Perhaps he can help find a way to stop the evil behind it, while finding knowledge and treasure to pay the bills.
WANTED:
Holy Knights,
Blessed Warriors of the Gods,
and other bold slayers of the Undead. Reward commensurate with risk.

The game has not yet begun; it should begin in a week or so, assuming the applications are there.
I'll apply with an Aasimar Paladin. PHB +1 (volo's).
Aasimar were introduced as a playable race in Volo's guide, so that would be your +1 - it would not impact anything now, but subclass and spell decisions later on would have to be sourced from the PHB.
I limited my race selection on DnDBeyond to PHB and variant Aasimar was part of it. Now that you pointed this out, I did a search and found this:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/d-d-adventurers-league/17242-variant-aasimar-phb-race#c4
So I changed from variant Aasimar to Protector Aasimar and bumped my INT by 1.
Updated my post above.

That's fine. It's DnDBeyond that caused the confusion. I'm not asking for anything. I edited my application to be legal.
