With the quiver crossed on his back Thurston jumps back when the smokes arises and some of the arrows fall. When it dissipates he recovers them while saying
"Oh now we are gonna burn this tent for good... hurry friends!"
Jex sits in quiet disbelief as his companions ignore his suggestion to hang the bodies high and begin the process of looting the corpse and tent.
"I thought we had a job to do" Speaking to nobody in particular. "Perhaps I misunderstood the priorities. But if gathering the wealth is what we are after I am more than happy to comply as the army is occupied with cutting down the villagers for the time being in any case."
At that moment the plume of smoke escapes the tent, cautiously Jex steps inside, ensuring the air is clear before stepping in properly. "What have you done? Will you be careful? And before you start burning things down perhaps I should at least take a look inside those chests." He points at the two chests on the floor by Brundir. "Unless you have any objections?"
"As I was saying" grants Thurston " we need to catch their attention. In the middle of a fight no one is going to start looking for hanging bodies "he keesp apiling furniture, and moving the carpets toward the center " but if we burn this tent then probably someone will look this direction so they can see the bodies."he takes an oil lamp drops the oil over the small pile of smashed furniture "and as you had suggested time is of the essence. "So why don't some of you take out the chests, probably they contain spoiled riches from the town, while others hang the bodies and I..."he produces a torch from his gear and start lighting it.
Once his friends are out Thurston will set on fire the interior of the tent and then go out and make a circle making sure the rest of the tent gets fire, once he finish it he will throw the torch inside.
"Are you mad? Do you know what all this could be worth?" Jex hisses as he tries to rescue the more valuable looking pieces from the pile. He hurriedly starts checking the chests for traps before picking the locks.
Vark follows the others into the tent, paying particular attention to the map of the tunnels. "Y-yeah we should probably take the-" he is cut off as Thurston begins igniting the place. Startled, he grabs both maps and runs out of the tent.
"Focus on the chest you... this is just wood!! and... wool!! " replies Thurston in frustration when Jexx picks a cushion and between the two of them rip it off. " Listen Jex " says Thurston trying to calm down "Take the chest outside there is were the good things should be. We need this fire starting. We need it to be big as we can as soon as possible so the ones fighting see it or this would be for nothing. We don't have much time here, remember?"
Jex shakes his head as he checks the locks, even with the distractions of the room he spots a trap, "This is why we don't rush and we check things out before we smash them. This could have seriously hurt us if we just started moving it." He expertly feeds a needle into the lock and places it across the trigger, removing the firing mechanism with it locked in place. Thurston's hurrying distracts him though as he tries to open the chest and one of the small needles break in the lock. He curses and brushes him away. "Here back off, this will only take a moment." He springs the big chest open, seeing it as an easier target and is immediately drawn to the bow, taking it he puts it in his quiver alongside his own before stashing the necklace in his belt and grabbing the helmet. "These clothes could be worth a little too." He gestures for one of the others to grab the box, before reluctantly picking up the smaller one and taking it outside to work on, stuffing some more of the best looking art and clothing onto the pile as he goes. Frustrated, he takes several attempts to rush the lock, he is surprised by the challenge it presents and he has to try several different techniques before it finally springs open and the value of the treasure within clearly justified the protection. "Now aren't you glad I rescued this?" He exclaims as a very large sum of coins is revealed by the raising lid. "None for you though, you wanted to melt it in the tent. Thor would be ashamed. I shall put it towards doing his work instead."
"That's why I told you, first of all, to take them outside Jex. You don't listen where there is gold involved and you should my friend. And probably he" says Thurston as start burning the tent from the outside and pointing Kung's body with the other hand "would had the key on himself to open the chests... saving you time. Now why don't you all hang them up there while I finish this?"
“Hey g-guys...” Vark begins to attempt to grab the groups attention, but seems discouraged by Thurston and Jex’s bickering. Instead, he walks over to Seid. “Uhm h-hey Seid, I found this map of the tunnels... when I was down there I saw the mages doing... something like a- a ritual. It was in here,” he points to the spot on the map. “Gevangenpoort. Do you know what it is? Or... what they’re doing?”
"By Thor's hammer why don't you put out all the stuff you want to sell later while I was getting it ready to burn and let me burn the damn thing once and for all?!. Those are just things!! and over there " he points to the battle " there are people dying fighting for their homes. And you whimper over some silks. They need our help and the goblinoids need to know that their leader is gone or our plan to disrupt their chain of command would be for nothing. Come on people! What's gotten into all of you? I am not saying you don't get your loot but MOVE!"
He starts to fire his torch again making clear that they got the time he lights it again.
Jex hurries into the tent grabbing what he can as quickly as possible.
"This would go a lot faster if you helped rather than trying to set it all on fire. Or better yet, start no fire. Burn somewhere else. Whatever you like. Go fight with those people, burning the tent was never part of my plan. But as I thought about it, without this I don't imagine anyone here can afford to pay my rate for all I've done so far. "
"Your plan got holes!"he yells " like how they will know their leader is dead! If the smoke comes from his tent and they look and see the body...then they will know... And first thing in our plan was to burn their tents!!... And I gave you plenty of time! I was busy breaking the chairs in the middle of the room. And getting all that silks damped with oil! Are you serious about selling this things to the legitimate owners? "Thurston speaks while he is putting a rope around Kung's feet and looks to a nearby building to throw the rope and raise the body, with the torch on the ground at his side " Most of it would belong to the people of the city I guess."
"I said nothing about returning it. I would take it as payment." Jex retorts as he rushes back out with a pile of silks and cushions. "You can burn this when it's empty."
"But how it's going to burn if you are taking it out all that can burn!" cries the paladin while throwing the rope over a wooden plank that protudes from the ceiling of the building alongside the tent and getting ready to pull Kung's body. " At least let the cushions inside!!"
He looks at the body, then to the heap of silk that Jex is making and walks towards it, grabs a piece of red silk and take it to the body, tying it to the corpse legs so it would be more visible in the distance.
Then he pulls the rope and rise the body. When Jex looks at him after seeing the silk he shrughs and says
Jex wipes the sweat from his brow where it had begun to run into his eyes from all the hard work. He shrugs. "You can meet my fee if this doesn't make it then." With a casual flick of his wrist he sends Thurston's torch tumbling into the tent.
As they both see the smoke start raising from the tent Thurston says in normal, calm voice ot Jex
"You know... they never asked us to help them in the first place so... I am not sure you can ask them a fee for your services... I mean it's not like you had a previous arrangment but " he raises a hand to calm his friend reply " I will vouch for you. No worries. Now, where to? help them or go for the wizards..." he turns to the others who are around the map " You! what you've learned? better be worth it for Jex was doing all the hard job to get your loot out for you!" he left Jex's side to walk towards the others.
"As far as I am concerned, Hurrig represented them when he came to request aid. But my worry in the rate is why I take from the fallen enemies." He watches the smoke rise and listens to the sounds of clashing metal and screaming from across the ravine as he ponders Thurston's question. "I say wait. See how they respond to this turn of events. I am weary and would prefer they come to us."
As the smoke from the tent rises into the sky, the panicked shouts of the fleeing hobgoblin guards spread like wildfire amongst the goblinoid ranks, leaving havoc in their wake. The bugbears are the first to break and run. Already on the back foot in the face of the fierce onslaught of Anders' men, they begin to flee east in droves.
With their allies abandoning the field of battle all around them, even the regimented discipline of the hobgoblins begins to falter. With no captain present to order a retreat, their formation splinters as the soldiers scatter and head for Shamley pass.
Cheers go up all across Shamleyside as the villagers watch the hard-fought retreat of the broken goblin army. Sheercleft is free!
Thurston didn't wait for all to transpire. As soon as the smoke start to rise he runs towards the fray and join Ander's forces and follows the fleeing goblinoids to the very end of the village. He roars to them with his warhammer high green with goblin blood.
He then turn and hear the cheers fo the brave men and women of Sheercleft celebrating their regained freedom. He walks back and helps with the wounded, and many of the faces he meets are of joy. Still he doesn't feel that the time to celebrate has reallly come. The wizards. The wizards and whatever they were doing is like a thorn on his side.

"Stop"
Jex stamps out the initial flame and puts himself between Thurston and the tent.
"That tent is filled with silks and valuable weapons. That is a small fortune you are trying to burn down. We can at least empty the tent first."
Thurston rolls his eyes back.
