Dalyn's smile fades as Kol says he was left by his ships crews. Her thoughts drift away, sadness filling her eyes. In a soft voice she speaks, "One's crew is their tribe, their home." She reaches into her pocket and places a small wooden Pegasus on the table. Blinking her large green eyes back into reality her sadness fades. "The waters of the sword coast are my home. I am also a traveler of the sea." Dalyn touches the wooden Pegasus for a moment, and looks back to Kol. "In my tribe, the young leave to discover their calling and purpose in this world. Is that why you are alone?"
"My crew were never a tribe or a home. They paid me and my tribe members frequently worked on ships for their coin, but they were never anything more then employers. If we died, they would have kept the coin owed and pushed our bodies into the water." Kol examined the Pegasus, it was gorgeous and he wondered if that beast was her tribes totem. "I left my tribe to earn coin and seek a wife, I wanted more then what was offered. I was left in a unknown land and instead of trying to go home, I wandered. I have been met with ill luck repeatedly, and have spent all my coins to merely survive. I don't regret my choices but I am definitely paying for them."
Listening intently to her new companion, Dalyn frowns at his story. Her frown turns to a slight knowing grin as he speaks of seeking fortune and a wife. "Ah, the trials of a young man. A journey often started for all the wrong reasons." She notices Kol eyeing her Pegasus, and for a moment she is caught off guard by her own feelings. She places the small Pegasus in the palm of her right hand. "This was a gift. A gift given to me out of need, but also out of kindness. My crew.." She pauses, remembering so much in a flash. "My friends, helped me see there was a better way to live my life. What was once an unfocused youthful child grew to become a guardian, fierce in her desire to protect her new family. This small wooden toy was made to calm my soul. It is all I have left of those who I once had the pleasure of fighting along side." Setting the Pegasus down on the table, she takes off her cape revealing a necklace. Hanging from it is a large obsidian carved bear. "I have a feeling your luck is about to change."
Dalyn bends over her chair, her long hair brushes the floor as it falls over her face. Sitting back up, she places a large piece of wood on the table. Reaching around her belt she pulls a small carving knife out. "Today, I shall turn your luck around."
Kol watched the women as she spoke, the sheer emotion in her voice made him nostalgic for his old tribe. He waited till she was done and felt the value and weight the toy now carried, it was priceless to Dalyn. Worth more then gems or coin, and linked to her. Kol almost laughed when she commented on his luck, it had been kicking him since he got off the boat and while it would eventually stop. He didn't believe it would be soon. He watched as she pulled wood out and a carving knife and frowned in puzzlement. "I do not know what you plan to do with those but I will ask you a small favor before you start. Would you let me tie your hair up? I cannot stand to see it drag on the ground and be at risk of getting dirty. It is far to lovely and beautiful to touch dust and dirt. We can discuss anything while I do it."
Dalyn's hands grasped her hair pulling it around her neck and up to her face. She inhales for a long moment. Her eyes filling with delight. "I am not concerned about dirt. It is necessary if one is to know where they have been and where they are going." Dalyn lets go of her hair, swinging it behind her like a cape. "My hair has smelled like the blood of my foes, the sweet scent of grass, and the salt sea air. " There is a pause, and slowly Dalyn leans over the table starring at Kol. "No one touches my hair but my mate." Her words are slow, and filled with caution.
Her smile returns as she leans back into her chair cracking her neck. "Care to see who can drink the most ale?"
A male Goliath enters the bar, he is unencumbered by armor, only a shield to his back and a battleaxe at his side. It is rare to see a single Goliath in ones time, but to see two in the same day....same place.....is unheard of.
Catching the tail end of the challenge administered by his mate a reply is provided, "I think we both know who wins that contest my love."
Walking past the female Goliath, he opens his large hands to caress the flowing locks of his mate. He continues to the bar to order food and drink.
Pure joy emanates from Dalyn's eyes upon hearing Keo's voice. Dalyn's heads slowly falls backward as her mate moves past her. She lifts her head and smiles. "Join us Dawnbreaker! Tell me where have you been these last few days." Dalyn swings her legs off the chair next to her and plops them on the ground. Whispering to Kol she says smiling, "Notice he carries a shield and I do not." She smiles with teasing delight. "Food, drinks, and good company abound tonight!"
Kol held up his hands in surrender as she spoke about her hair and how only a mate could touch it. "I submit, I shall not dare touch you. It was a minor annoyance to me and one easily forgotten. I did not know that you had such a custom, I don't wish it upset you." Kol was ready to accept a challenge when another person of the same race came to them. He was massive and carried little on him, Kol listened to the new man and nodded politely to him. He did not wish to upset either of them, no food or drink was worth causing problems with. "I fear with you both I would be quickly outmatched, I must admit defeat before we can begin. It is probably not a good idea to pour much ale on my stomach anyway, I doubt I would be a challenge to you."
Keo pulls up a chair to the table to join Dalyn and her new found friend. His large arms gestured wildly as he explains were he has been, "I was commissioned to travel across the sea with my brother and a motley crew of aspiring adventurers to an island that was overrun by the undead. A few flaming horses, shark-jaw skeletons, and putrid zombies later, we found ourselves in a temple solving puzzles to unlock a final chamber containing a helm with jade koy accents. We returned the helm and was rewarded enough gold to keep the ale flowing for awhile."
Realizing he had gotten ahead of himself, Keo introduces himself, "I am Keo Dawnbreaker Ikaika of the Sword Coast Tribe."
"Welcome, one and all, sorry about the wait. Was in the back making some more brew." The dwarf now looks like an ant against the goliaths, but Nemo comes out with two giant pitchers of ale and a few servers come out behind Nemo struggling under two giant platters with giant boars slathered with honey and gravy, surrounded with garnish and an apple stuck in its maw. "This is a special that we make for goliaths that come through here. Thankfully, not many come through here too, so it's not always sold." He brings out a large wooden bowl of steamy broth and noodles for the others and a few more mugs of ale to wash it down.
Dalyn stands as she begins to smell the aroma of dinner. She bends down and pats the dwarf on the back. "You good sir, have out done yourself." As the food is set down at the table Dalyn begins carving the meat and dishing it out to the 2 men at her table. Eager to sit and eat she is, but she is careful with each slice, savoring the smells dancing across her nose. After she has served her new friend and her mate, she sits down quietly and bows her head. "To those we have lost, we will celebrate you in our joy tonight." She gives a quick gesture towards the food with her arms and begins digging into her meal. Hot food has long since been a memory and Dalyn cannot help but grin as she delightfully tastes each bite. On her second glass of ale she begins to slow her excitement and look up from her food.
"I am not trying to be rude, its just been a long journey with nothing but jerky to eat. I may need to be rolled out of this tavern."
"Haha, that is perfectly fine. My friend Nemo can push almost anything out of anywhere, but there an icebox for what you don't finish and multiple rooms upstairs for a nap afterward." He says this as he walks with a heaping pile of garlic mushrooms and sauteed turnips. "Is there anything I can get anyone else? "
Kol stares with intensity at the food and carefully eat enjoying each bite as if it was the best thing the world had to eat. "Greetings Keo Dawnbreaker, I am Kol Whitewave. I am a ex sailor from distant lands, your adventures sound grand. I would love to hear of them, I sadly do not have such tales to tell. Unless you wish to hear of I'll luck and many failed jobs. You and your Mate has shown me a great kindness. I hope if I may help you in any way, all you need do is ask." Kol enjoys each drink and bite as he eats, he doesn't stuff his mouth but eats at a relentless pace making eat taste linger.
