Olen seems to be deep in thought, having hardly touched his drink.
"We may want to check if any more security is being put in place for the festivities tomorrow."
"Shops often up their security for Wildnight, and Azaracs is easily well off enough to afford decent security."
Olen turns to address Vasha,
"Now as for flash and bang magic, I wouldn't completely rule it out. Sometimes a good loud distraction is just what's needed to get some guards to move."
Olen turns back to Kinnik and looks between everyone,
"We have a day before Wildnight, I suggest we work out some preparation plans and see what we can do between now and then, to make this job a success."
If we are going by the wonderful "Here's to Crime" rules, we should now each try to come up with one preparation that would require a singe skill check to pull off.
so things like: checking the whole shop over for new defences and the like: Perception or Investigation check.
or: trying to get hired as an extra guard for the night: Deception or Persuasion check.
think of all the cool things that you find in movie's like Oceans 11 and the like, let your imagination run wild :)
Kinnik, overjoyed by Shroud's tacit endorsement of his plan, puffs up a bit and salutes.
(The magpie will try for stealth and, using his invisible mage hand, try to swipe a set of display keys from an Azarac floor guard at the bar he frequents after work)
(Once everyone has asked their follow-up questions)
Kinnik heads out the door and sends Zephyr flying overhead (staying within ~100', of course). Eventually, the birds arrive at The Puddleweir, the favorite bar of Kinnik's target. Kinnik hops onto a nearby roof to keep a lookout, and Zephyr settles across from the nearby Azarac's to watch for the guard's departure. He should be getting off any time, now...
(It could be put, that if Cap is spending time talking to each guard, he may get advantage along with his expertise, to persuade the guards to slip off during the festivities, but that would be up to LaRue to decide and possibly need another roll or 2)
Olen decides he will see if he can get himself hired on as an extra guard for the night.
He transforms himself into a burly, but well mannered and well groomed/dressed, half-orc.
He disappears to his room and puts together some fake documentation to show his exemplary passed work history, as a bouncer and a guard.
Coming back down stairs, the half-orc addresses the others, before everyone leaves on their tasks.
"Right then, I will see you fine gentleman and my lady, later. Good luck with each of your endeavours."
"Take care."
The half-orc has deep and somewhat gravely voice, that seems at odds with his precise and formal way of speaking.
The half-orc departs to see if he can get himself hired.
(@LaRue, how did you want us to make our rolls? did you want us to make them and then you can narrate the success or failure? or do you want us to make them and if they pass your DC, we narrate how we succeed or fail?)
Kinnik closes his eyes and sees through Zephyr's. Ah, here comes the floor guard: A well-dressed half-elven man in a burgundy coat places his clean white gloves in his breast pocket and makes his way around the corner to Puddleweir. The flash of a ring of keys glimmers from his belt. Kinnik returns to his senses and recalls the owl, catching her on his outstretched arm. He strokes her feathers and directs her to fly back to the Lotus for help if things go south.
The kenku hops from his roost and follows the half-elf in a minute later. He waits a while- the guard likes his wine but he drinks so slowly. Eventually, faint blotches of color appear high on his cheekbones and he begins to laugh a little too loudly at his friends' jokes. Hiding his eagerness behind his mug of cheap ale, Kinnik summons an invisible mage hand and plucks the case keys from the guard's belt. (Sleight of hand: 16- rolled on discord)
With prize in hand, the little thief skips up a rainspout and dances a bit on his way back to the lotus. That's one box checked; hopefully the others will have had some success, too.
The Rogue's Gallery decides, indeed, to go along with Kinnik's scheme. A magic shop must have incredible loot after all... and didn't the gang deserve to enjoy this Wildnight? Before the gang makes their approach, they decide to case the joint, and they've learned about a couple of things during this time...
Azzaria is a lot stronger than she looks. She's little, buff, and mean... to poor people. (More info is hidden in a potential flashback.)
For Wildnight, she seems anxious... worried. It's not clear why, since she has pretty good defenses so far (aside from that air vent) but she will have some extra guards on hand during the night. (The exact number hidden until the caper begins.)
Aurelius is Azzaria's pride and joy. This mastiff knows Shroud's scent. This could prove to be a problem...
Let the fun begin...
Phase Two - Choose the 'Face'
The Approach will be a Dexterity Check with a -1 Modifier in addition to the Dex Modifier. This was figured as : - 1 for base modifier, - 1 Shroud, - 1 Vasha, + 1 Kinnik, + 1 Cap. Anyone who achieved the + 1 may declare they instead offer a + 0 in exchange for advantage during the next phases.
Before additional narration can be provided... I need the approach roll.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Phase Two - The Approach and the Troubles
The night of Wildhunt, party fevers are running wild, but the gang has managed to suppress these urges! They were going to suffer disadvantage to all rolls in this section, but instead they will roll normally thanks to Kinnik's guidance and focus. All of your planning has led to this - if you manage to succeed you will be richer with magic items. If you fail, it could spell serious TROUBLE...
Kinnik's air vent entry proves successful! You are inside Azzaria's Arcane Accoutrements. Thankfully its on the floor level of the tower its based in, so escaping should be pretty easy... emphasis on should. Once inside, you are relieved to see that Azzaria hadn't thought to ward or alarm this air vent. When you look at it, it is pretty inconspicuous.
Trouble One
Once inside, you hear loud barking! You hear the heavy footfalls of 4 guards! Soon Aurelious, the hound, and those guards are upon you!
Trouble Two
Where are the magic items? They aren't inside their cases at all!?
Trouble Three
(This will be revealed when we find out how the first two troubles went, actually.)
-- HOW TO DEAL WITH TROUBLE --
Trouble can be dealt with in the present by dealing with them in the here and now. You could just fight those guards and the dog. Of course, this might alert Azzaria and maybe even MORE guards? You could just roll a skill check, but it would be a ONE CHARACTER ROLLS AND THAT'S IT sort of roll.
Trouble can be dealt, more expertly, with flashbacks! You have to spend one of your inspiration points (of which you all have at least 1 point) and with that - you take the scene. You don't have to make a roll. Just write a creative way that your character already came up with a counter to whichever particular trouble you run into. I am giving you 100% creative control for this, so don't be too silly!
Please discuss on discord who would like to take which trouble and work it out. Once we've seen the solutions to these troubles, we will see the FINAL TROUBLE REVEALED!!
(I know this isn't 100% how the book has it laid out, but I realized I sort of screwed up already. We will follow the book more closely next time!! Bear with me, okay? :) )

Kinnik looks around at the empty cases... and he grins.
~~The night before~~
"Like I was sayin'," the Azaracs guard continued. He was well into his cups by this point; it would be hard for anyone within 10 feet to NOT hear him. "That Azzaria trusts me with 'er finest treasures. She was just showin' us higher ups how 'er new fancy lifts work. Those display cases? Ain't no way on this plane o' existence to open 'em- Not on the display floor, anyhow. No, whatcha gotta do is go UNNERNEATH. That basement o' hers is where the goods are loaded, polished, and held in case o' emergency."
Kinnik, hidden where he was several seats away, made an odd gesture under the table. The guard then heard a voice ask a murmured question and he laughed. "WORRIED?? Why would Azzaria worry 'bout Wildhunt?" He twirled his key ring around his finger. "Unless somebody's got one of THESE, they can't take anything really valuable..."
~~~~
Kinnik twiddles his fingers, and a soft violet script appears above his head where the others in his party can clearly see. "Just like I said- they're down THESE stairs." Kinnik quietly unlocks a small trapdoor using the key on his ring. He stands and gestures to their prize with a silent flourish.
The sounds of the dogbarking and the guardsapproaching, gets louder by the moment, when the dogsuddenly stop half way through the shop.
Olenand Vasha, stand in a small apothecary, before the gnomeproprietor.
The gnomeis balding, but what remains of his white hair and beard stick out in odd and random directions.
Olenholds up a small vial of brown liquid, asking the gnome,
"So this will take care of the dog?"
"Oh this will take care of the dog all right."
The gnomegives a mischievous smirk.
"It wont kill it, right? I don't want to hurt a dog that's just being a good boy. I just need it to, not give away the game, before we are finished."
"No, no, the dog will be fine, just...inconvenienced for a bit."
The gnometurns to watch Vasha, who is idly running her hands along a shelf of vials and bottles, small flickers of magical energy sparking off her finger tips.
"She's not going to loose it like that time with the dwarfs? I really don't want to have to clean up, if a bunch of flumphs decide to appear and make a mess of my shop."
Olenreassures the gnome,
"Dont worry about it Fredaric, Vashahas much more control these days. Shes far more likely to accidentally cause lightning to come crashing down all around us, then summoning terrified flumphs."
"Maybe take him inside, I'll bring the food in, and we can feed him now, to get him calmed down."
"Aurelius, whats the matter with you?"
Aurelius has started to whine. There is a sound of a fart and then one of the guardsremarks,
"Oh, aaww, I think I'm going to be sick. F#*k, some of it got on my boot!"
There are the sounds of dry heaving from one of the guards.
"Suck it up Jimmy! Freddy, take Aurelius outside now, before he can make any more mess. Tommy, come help me get the cleansing stone from the front door. Hopefully we can use it to clean up the mess, before Azzaria find out."
In their hiding spot by the open trapdoor, the group sneaks down into the secret area of the shop, closing the trapdoor quietly behind them, unseen.
Shroud, in his half-orc disguise, walks confidently in to see Azzaria, to see if he can get himself hired on as an extra guard.
He sits at her desk and introduces himself,
"Hi, my name is James Hardy, I'm looking to hire on for Wildnight, as an extra guard."
Azzaria smiles patting the head of a large mastiff that sits beside her.
James continues talking about his past work, giving her his references.
Azzaria places the references on the desk without looking through them, but still has a smile on her face.
James seems confident, and sure everything is going well, when Azzaria reaches down and pulls out a small device from her desk.
"Do you know what this is? This is a truth detection device. I was luck to get my hands on it, and it has served me well."
"It works by changing colour when someone nearby tells a lie. Normally it is green, but when it detects a lie it turns red."
The device had been red from the moment Azzaria pulled it out and placed it on the desk between herself and James.
Azzaria smiles, as two big guards grab James by the shoulders and hold him in place.
Azzaria comes around from her desk, bring her mastiff with her.
She lets the dog get a few good sniffs of James and then commands it to sit beside her.
"This is Aurelius, he is very good with scent. He knows you now and will warn me and my guards, if you ever return."
"Don't return. You wouldn't like what I would have to do to you, if you so much as set foot in my establishment again."
Azzaria gives a dismissive wave of her hand and the two guards hoist James out of the chair and drag him out of the shop, tossing him into the street.
James slinks away, transforming back into Olen on his way back to the Black Lotus.
