Dhara replies in infernal, "What I'm interested in is getting the fek out of here. We can have fun later, when we are far away from this place".
Then to the others: "You have your delivery. We have fulfilled our obligation - better than others have done from what we saw down there. Perhaps that is worth some additional compensation. Otherwise, are we free to go?"
“Hopefully you won’t need the knowledge 'bout the tunnels again.” With a smile, the female human answers to Jaylen, “But the information could really help us. It'd make our job much safer.”Her voice breaks slightly as she says the last part.
They stare at you all for a moment, as you start to talk amongst yourselves in different languages. As Dhara says:"You have your delivery. We have fulfilled our obligation ...” You can see the dwarf making his way around the table, towards the party. “Yes, you’ve done well. We didn’t expect...” But as Dhara continues, the room falls completely silent and Dhara is met with icy stares. Even the female human who seemed previously amused by Jaylen, and had a smile on her face, now has a serious expression. The dwarf continues silently, giving each of you 2 gold coins, without moving his gaze from the coins.
When you all receive your gold the dwarf lets out a long sigh and finally looks at you again. “You are free to go. And please do.” He starts making his way around the table when he turns to you, somewhat abruptly. “One more thing! You didn’t follow the usual way through the tunnels. Did you see other people down there?”
"Only other people we came across were blood spattered corpses."- Halahace says straight and to the point, feeling that he no need for tact at the moment. Besides that we say some strange bug creatures, strange postule covered rats and a few other things that wanted us dead."
Meep took the coins happily and put them with the others within his clothing. Pleased with the exchange for his box, the kobold was now ready to leave. "Meep saw the armored human lose to the puddle."
“I can appreciate you being straight with us.” The dwarf nods to Halhace. Upon hearing Meeps’ words he quickly turns towards him, “Where!? Where did you see him?” Everyone looks at Meep, eagerly waiting for a reply.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the expression on their faces Dhara starts to feel a little more at ease and and finally puts away her weapon. She takes the gold and says "I don't mean to offend. You have to understand in the last few days I have been drugged, kidnapped, stripped of everything I owned, was set to be pitted against who knows what in an arena, fought off guards, made to cart crates through underground tunnels, killed some horrific beasts and a giant bat, and then finally assaulted by a living suit of armour. I still don't even know where I am or how far away my home is. I don't think it unreasonable to be cautious with you or anyone else at this point.
There are some down there long dead, and others more recently. Some carrying similar boxes. Meep watched an ooze decimate one right in front of him just passed where we turned off. One of the cave walls down there is an illusion - looks like something that's been hidden for an extremely long time. Comes out through another illusion where we came up. I don't know how much help it would be - cuts off a little bit from the journey I suppose. But it's trapped, and may still be, so be cautious.
What is the purpose of these boxes and their contents that you have to pay people to bring them through the tunnels? Who are you people? Though we are free from the city, we still have little in the way of coin or any clue as to what to do next. If you need help, perhaps we can be that help. We also have one friend still trapped in the city that we are hoping can be located and released."
“Dron.”The female human calls out and the dwarf visibly relaxes and looks to her as she continues. “If you’d agree,” she then turns towards the party. “Could you lead, or at least point me to, this entrance? We’d have a better chance finding our friend. Whether, dead or alive.”She takes a moment to collect herself and looks to the dwarf who nods in agreement. She turns to Dhara, “As for the questions. You are in the Empire of Rul, on its western shores, and I’m sure you can guess ‘bout the boxes and us.”
From behind her the dwarf speaks, “Your friend. Tell us about him and we’ll keep an eye out. Help where possible. As for work, we got none to give. Closest town from ‘ere is Riverport, around 3 days travel. You might find work there. Other is Shallowrest, a small village less than a day up the shore. They seem to have troubles there. I’d wager they’ve enough coin to pay for help.”
"I will show you the entrance, and how to pass it. Our friend is a half-orc. Tall, strong. Name's Albrec though if he hasn't been recaptured I doubt he would be using it. You mentioned 'hobgoblins' - are we likely to encounter these if we headed to Shallowrest? If it's closest that would probably be our best chance to start getting back on our feet. Also, do any of you happen to read Abyssal?"
The female human answers Dhara, “Honestly, we don’t get many runaway slaves. No idea how far they’d go or how long they’d look. I...” she looks over her companions.“I don’t think any of us speak Abyssal.”
"I day we go wehre there are no troubles to be dealt with. I just need a place to set up shop and live comfortably. I can pass myself off as someone who is good at his job and hope no one is smart enough to peg me as a full orc since for some reason even if I am smarter all most want to do is have my head on a spike...." Halhace says as he looks torward the others.
Meep has no clue where his family would be. If it's within the empire or an entirely different continent. Only remembering that outside the tunnels were trees too thick to see through. "Meep will follow." He says softly. "Meep not much help out of tunnel.
"Good with me. Halhace - this may be a pit stop but we'll get you where you want to be. Besides you never know when you'll come across the place you're meant to stay."
"If we are to travel, we need to think about provisions. I have little woodcraft and don't think I can be much help in hunting game and the like, although after we rest for the evening I can prepare spells of water creation to keep.us hydrated, if we can find a container to store it. Meep mentioned something about searching for food earlier. Is that something in which you are skilled my friend, or were you perhaps being an optimist?"
