As for Esvele... she may have money, publicity for her family may be a good thing, and no-one is all good or all bad. A thief can still want to help people in need
Chen says to Lucian, "No, she doesn't have any money. You talked to her forever the other night. Did you not see how shabby her clothes were? I mean, I'm sure they were nice and fancy once upon a time, but they were practically threadbare! Don't you think if she had any money, a woman of her so-called nobility would buy some new clothes?"
Lucian would walk in with whoever came with him, greet Vajra, and ask to sit down. (I assume there is some form of formal meeting area where members of Force Grey meet).
Once we've been seated, Lucian will look to the Blackstaff and say, "Lady Blackstaff, you once told us that you want to protect Waterdeep. As do I. I care about the people in our city, and especially those who aren't as fortunate as you or I with the power to defend themselves. Specifically in the Field Ward. I personally need your help. I don't know if you have heard, but there was a serial killer in the Field Ward that systematically targetted the weak and innocent. The most recent victim was someone very dear to me (I would describe Cailyn and what she has done, making sure to make it out as service to Waterdeep). The killer wielded a sentient dagger that is quite powerful, but has the ability to trap or possibly consume souls. (Lucian hesitates... returns from whatever train of thought he had delved into, and continues). Needless to say, I am out of my depth. I need your help to bring her back. The dagger is in my bag, it's yours if you can find some way to help me recover her soul. I will pay from my resources to have her raised. Whatever resources I can contribute, I will.

That's a valid point. Maybe you're right. We'll see how this goes with Vajra, and pick up from there.

She listen intently and you can see that she seems to care about what your saying. Her eyes widen noticeably when you mention a sentient weapon and says, " Leave the dagger with me and allow me to study it. Do not attempt to revive your friend until I have finished my research. Go to the temple where her body is being kept and tell them Vajra Blackstaff wants her body preserved. I assume you have dealt with this murderer seeing as you have their weapon. Who was the killer?
*Kherek sits the same time as Lucian. His new bartender attire now replaced with his platonic ideal of a wizard garb*
*As he sits he smiles and nods towards Lady Blackstaff. A nod that says "we're the same, you and I. And you can trust us."*
"Kherek, I see you have acquired a new toy. Is that what you think a powerful wizard looks like?" She looks at you with an inquisitive stare. " No. We are not the same but that doesn't mean I don't place my trust in you all."
"Black Bart, the traveling bard, was the wielder. He called the sentience Hal, and from what I understand it desires murder..." After briefing her about the dagger and describing as much as Lucian can about it from what he gleaned from Bart, I'll retrieve it from my bag and place it in front of her.
Chen says, "Careful with Hal. After I spent a little time getting to know it, Hal didn't want to let me go. Lucian had to help me overpower Hal's insistence that I keep it."
"Uh, Lucian, I know raising Cailyn is our priority. I didn't know her as long as you or have time to forge a bond as tight as yours, but I'm with you in this. Waterdeep is a better place with people like her in it. We have to get her back, whatever it takes. And, it seems to me that what it's going to take is gold. After we make the necessary arrangements with the temple to have Cailyn's body preserved, are you up for going to see what sort of business that Zardoz Zod guy wanted us for? Maybe we can get the gold we need from him."

"Ok, I'll go. The only other thing I wanted to do was talk to Mirt. Which I can try to do at the concert thing tonight. I need someone to help care for the kids while I help Cailyn, and Mirt has been good to us so far. I'm hoping he knows someone trustworthy to help"

Nijal folds his arms and stares down toward the ground as Lucian mentions Esvelle. After Chen and Lucian finish their conversation about Esvelle's financial situation, Nijal speaks out still staring towards the ground,
"The Rosznar family, Esvelle's family, was run out of Waterdeep many years ago. They have only returned here in recent history. The family has been trying to re-establish their name but they are struggling to find others who are willing to deal with them."
Nijal unfolds his arms and looks up. His eyes never seem to focus but he continues on,
"The Rosznars were banished from Waterdeep all those years ago because they were selling slaves. That makes them more than simple thieves in my book. I doubt you would want to involve the kids with thieving slavers over having them simply living above the tavern for the time being."
Nijal pulls out his pipe and peels off from the group,
"I'll meet you in the docks to go see this Zardoz."

(In a tone that exaggerates how baffling it seems) And Chen used to be a member of one of the bloodiest crews ever to sail the Sword Coast. All I am suggesting is to keep an open mind, and we may find more friends of caliber
Matching Lucian’s tone, but with an added dash of sarcasm, and looking back over his shoulder, Nijal repsonds,
“Ah yes how could I forget the blood thirsty pirate Chen Pow of legend...I am very open minded to the thought of lining our pockets with the dragons that the Lords Alliance is willing to pay us for capturing her alive.”
Nijal drops the sarcastic tone and continues on in an even, pointed tone,
”I mean it’s not like we need 500ish dragons at the moment so we can pay to resurrect some poor bastard’s recently murdered, adoptive mother. Unless you think the rag wearing heiress will be willing to part with her stolen coin to cover it. That is if she hasn’t spent it already on new shackles and chains.”
Nijal no more than finishes as he walks out of earshot of any replies. As he does, he pauses and looks back toward the group just long enough to light his pipe, and turns away to continue walking.

After Raneir leaves, Lucian sits down at the bar with a bottle of whiskey and pours himself a neat glass. He turns to Nijal and Chen, offers a pour, and says "So what is our plan here gentlemen? I'm tired of being treated like a pawn in everyone else's game."
Nijal accepts the drink and tosses it back without saying a word. After a brief pause he pours himself another and sits down at the bar, this time slowly savoring each sip from his glass.
"My thoughts exactly. I am not sure who or what we can trust anymore. Meloon has been sitting here the whole time, even going out on jobs with us. Is he working for Blackstaff as some sort of spy or is he spying on Force Grey for Xanathar? And if so will Vajra even believe us if we told her? We are the new guys accusing one of her senior members of being a traitor."
Nijal pauses to take a long, contemplative sip from his glass before continuing,
"All I know is that Xanathar has to be dealt with and we can't go toe to toe with him. He will kill us the moment we have the Stone of Golorr(sp?). Even if we decided to give him the stone and not give it to Zardoz, Xanathar would kill us eventually. Zardoz says he can protect us from Xanathar, but I don't trust that either. He is obviously very capable, but he is also hiding 3 large ships full of trained Drow in plain sight using illusions."
Tossing back the rest of his whiskey, Nijal sighs and starts fishing out his pipe to pack it while he continues,
"We should get Trench to start finding this thief who was robbed of the stone. That frees us up for a little while to start contacting allies. I think we need to make our way to Vajra first and foremost. Fill her in on everything, especially Meloon. The Lords Alliance should be notified as well. I'll stop in and see if Mirt has any useful info. I think playing Zardoz, Xanathar, and the Zhents against each other while we have Force Grey, The Lords Alliance, and the City Watch allied together is the only way to come out of this alive. I would imagine Jalister would have the Open Lord's ear and be able to secure help from the City Watch. Now if he believes us based on our word alone remains to be seen. We have less rapport with him than the others but in defense of the city he would probably entertain us at least. There is one, well two I guess, other problems I see us running into. The first being that every faction is going to want this stone for themselves and we are going to end up being the sad lot they all expect to go get it. Who do we give it to? At best we have to choose between Vajra and Silverhand. I doubt the Lords Alliance would do anything other than give it to Silverhand anyway. And the second....well the second is probably the harder one. How are we going to make sure Xanathar and Meloon, if he is in fact a traitor, get what they deserve for killing Kherek?"
Nijal looks pointedly at Lucian, Chen, and then Gary as he tucks away everything he was using to prepare his pipe. As he finishes stowing everything Nijal gets up from the bar, pipe in hand, and begins to head to the door,
"To me, Meloon is just as guilty as Xanathar. Sure, Kherek was an idiot to challenge that...thing but Meloon had plenty of opportunities to warn us. For ****s sake we thought he was a comrade in Force Grey. And now..."
Nijal pulls out the bag containing Kherek's ashes and holds it up,
"This is what is left of Kherek who was a comrade in the Reputable Fellows..."
Nijal puts Kherek's ashes away as he turns on his heel and steps outside into the night.

Vajra rolls her eyes but smiles in amusement.
Lucian also info dumps all of the Xanathar things we haven't told Vajra as we leave.
We send the message to the priests (maybe Vajra has a way to do it magically?), and head off to Zardoz. I think he said he was on the Eyecatcher?
We will pick up Thursday with you guys going to talk to Zardoz so it there is any smaller things you want to do, let me know.
