Jupiter pulls his spear from his back and holds it out for Katrina, seeing that she would be the first victim of the quicksand. As he holds it out, he attempts to pull Katrina from the mud.
Alright, ok, I trust ye. Jack stays calm, but trusts theren to help. He knows better than to try to pull katrina and af out, or he will just sink too. So he keeps an eye out looking for nearby threats, while keeping his dissonant whispers readied so it's not wasted.
Jack is off the root trap, and calming his breathing. He advises Theren to continue holding onto that tree branch until everyone can move away from this area. The nearby vines with thorns that Theren pointed out also look like they are under tension, so might whip across the entire group if the trap is set off. Jack grabs another tree branch, and will be able to help someone next round. (Jack doesn't notice any other threats.)
Katrina is not sinking as quickly as when she first stepped in, but it is still fast enough to be worried. (STR check to try to get out on your own, after Jupiter's attempt to help failed..)
Jupiter's foot slips on the mud. He is almost pulled into the quicksand. He will be able to scramble to safe ground next round, but no other action.
Af, Reverie, Froskan still to go, and Katrina's roll,
Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
STR roll - 15 ((Would write more but Kat's already had her turn, this post is just for the roll))
She is able to use Jupiter's spear (which he lost hold of) and nearby vines to get enough leverage to pull herself to solid ground. (She will not have an action next round, but will be out.)

( Mage Hand has a 10 lb. limit, too weak to pull them out. If you use it creatively, I'd have Jack help someone else's attempt to get out, which would give them Advantage on their roll... It looks like Jack has the same strength as the remaining people in the quicksand, so his STR check to pull someone out would be the same as theirs.)

Froskan tries to remain calm as he starts quickly sinking into the sand. He also starts looking around for something he can try to grab onto to stop the sinking. If he doesn't find anything that looks like it'll help, he looks down and casts Ray of Frost at the quicksand at his feet, hoping to freeze it to stop his sinking until they can figure out a way out.
Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
(Still need a STR check for Froskan. Use Advantage on the roll, due to Reverie tossing you the end of a rope. I will also lower the difficulty, since you thickened the quicksand with your cold spell.)
Af pulls himself onto firm ground. He made it look so easy, some of you wonder if he was walking on water!

Froskan wasn't just sinking in the quicksand; it was like he was being sucked down. The ray of frost at the quicksand below thickened it, giving him enough time to grasp the rope from Reverie and join the safety of the others.
Jack uses his Mage Hand to hold the tree branch that Theren was using to keep the trap root from activating. The entire party backs off 15 feet, then the branch is let go. The root snaps, and the vines nearby jerk into action. Thick as your arm, spiked with thorns, several of them sweep horizontally. It would have pushed anyone standing around into the quicksand. Then several more vines arc overhead, slamming down onto the surface of the quicksand.
While marking a safe path around this area, you notice a few things. Froskan reads the remnants of now-spent arcane runes that were scratched in the dirt, which kept the ground firm for Reverie and Jupiter (and then the spell ended so the people behind fell into the quicksand and the trap root was exposed). Katrina observes that the plant trap vines and trigger root grew that way, however unnatural their actions. (It wasn't someone constructing a trap out of plant parts.)
(No immediate threats are visible. The steady light is still 160 feet away, and the drone of insects has come back after the vine strikes finished. Your party has time to decide what to do next.)

Jack recognizes that going straight is the best idea, then to the left. Then, if it is a creature, we have it by surprise. Jack gets the groups attention and tells them what to do.
"Ok Group, here's what we'll do. We go straight, then, when next to the light, we go towards it. Then, we won't be surprised if it's a Will-o-Wisp!"
"I've meant to report this to everyone..." Reverie speaks as she rolls up the rope and put it back in. "How should I explain this... But this area is strangely off. As soon as we stepped into this swamp, I used my Divine Sense just in case if we have an enemy nearby. This entire area—"Her blue-green eyes gaze around the place."—contains so much of fear, evil, desecration... And fiendish presence. It is hard for me to tell where exactly it is but it's getting stronger at the center of the swamp. And yet, we still need to be careful once we move towards the light. The direction towards the light is also stronger; however, not as much as stronger than the center of the swamp."

(Would I be able to tell from the runes whether that kind of trap was something I could detect ahead of time? Runes visible in the dirt, things like that)
