"The Shadowfell is the Inner Plane of existence of negative energy. It is a place of madness, despair, and illusion. But with your visit being about half a day, you should not be affected, other than mild discomfort.
"The Raven Queen and her elven minions (the shadar-kai) have claimed dominion over much of the Shadowfell. She is a god-like being interested in secrets and memories... If possible, avoid any of those patrols you encounter. They are troublesome, and can easily summon reinforcements if a fight breaks out.
"The Shadowfell is a plane of negative energy. There will be undead, of all kinds but mostly smokey forms like the wraiths and shadows. There are other beings, humanoid or monstrous, that have adapted to hiding in the darkness. A bright light will prevent them from hiding from you. Unfortunately, a bright light will also attract the attention of anything nearby."

"I have other tasks to attend to, so you will be leaving now... The situation is simple. You may choose to be here in the morning, in which case we will open the path to our great Sages, and the opportunity for life-altering knowledge. (OOC: For healing potions, I will shorten the search through the merchants. As a group, the first potion is as expected, but then each additional potion increases in cost. There is limited stock, so getting more than one requires going to vendors who are overcharging.
Regular healing (2d4+2): 1 for 50 GP, 2 for 110, 3 for 180, 4 for 260, 5 for 350
Greater healing (4d4+4): 1 for 100, 2 for 220, 3 for 360, 4 for 520, 5 for 700
This is a group purchase. So if each member of the party wanted 1 regular healing potion, the group would have to pay 350 (70 GP each). You can't each buy 1 for 50.)

Isk has happy to sell his armor, the magic protection from master of shadows being better anyway. He'll contribute 70gp towards the bulk healing potion buy.
"Well there's no possible way THIS could go badly," Froskan says after Theo leaves. "Didn't expect to be heading to shadowfell anytime soon. But it is what it is, I suppose."
He pays his own 70g towards the healing potions when they go shopping.
Trim, Isk, and Froskan add a potion of (regular) healing. Subtract 60 GP.
Jack and Reverie haven't spoken up, and do not get a healing potion. Since they have healing spells, they would wait to shop for when the prices are down.
If anyone is selling their excess armor, as mentioned in post 2844, remove that armor from your Equipment, and add the appropriate number of GP.
Do not pay for the hotel. We will settle that later. )
Trimyrai: (to the party) "Does anyone have experience going to a different realm?"
Trim gets responses to his question.
Reverie, Jack, and Froskan have not travelled to another realm, but when they were guarding the caravan a month ago (post 88), areas of the Silvanus Swamps were invaded by beings from the fey and the shadows. It is possible for those realms to bleed across the dimensions, like an infection. The swamps became twisted and dark, full of terror, and the caravan passed through it as quickly as possible.
Isk also says no. You can tell that he is saying what he considers to be the truth, but you see that something is off when he said it (face pale, sweating, arms tense, distracted).

After shopping for the healing potions, your group heads back to the 4H for a well-made dinner, and relaxing drinks around the lounge room fireplace as the hotel staff does maintenance on your equipment. (You want it in top shape for tomorrow's excursion.)
As requested, the staff wakes you up in the pre-dawn hours of the 13th of Winter FirstMoon. You have time for breakfast, and then (fully armed) head back to the Oghma temple. Theo once more tries to persuade you to hand over the book now, but you are steadfast in wanting to see the Sages of Stone. He reminds you of the advice he gave yesterday (post 2836), then leads you to a vault room with an ornate magic circle on the floor, over which is a stone arch with mithril runes. Theo and a trio of spell-casters chant for 10 minutes (ritual). The air inside the arch ripples, then appears as a curtain of black smoke.
Theo hands Reverie a hand-sized rod of clear quartz. "When you are ready to return, come back to the entry point in the Shadowfell, hold the rod, and say 3 times 'There is no place like home'." He then points for your group to walk through the archway.
The party is now standing on a rocky slab, which is covered with runes. Some have to do with teleportation circles and planar gates, while the rest are wards to keep enemies away from this location.
The lighting is dim, like dusk before nightfall. There is a dark smoke fog that is all around, swirling despite the absence of wind. The ground outside the slab you are standing on is dry dirt and jagged volcanic pebbles. There are gnarled trees without leaves, that somehow grew without sunlight. You feel uncomfortable being in this realm, but as Theo warned you, it would be worse if you did not feel this discomfort.
The Oghma book (that you recovered from the deathlocks) vibrates in your hands. On the cover, a circle glows faintly, and inside it is an arrow pointing slightly right of straight ahead. This is your compass to the Sages. Fortunately, the glow is dim enough that you can easily cover it so you don't attract attention.
(What does the party do?)
