Reshi sighs, “Very well. Let us check the last room on this floor and then head for the basement.” With that Reshi reaches for the last door and opens it.
Garren starts reading the book. He lists it for a few minutes and finds some potion recipes, some of them too good to be true. There's not enough time at the moment to understand if what's written has any scientific value. Then his attention is grabbed by Simon falling on his knees.
After explaining the situation to the others Simon and his friends exit the room, just to find Rod checking accurately the painting and talking to himself. He finds nothing in it so he decides to join you as well as you enter the south room.
A harpsichord looms out from the dark, facing a nearby standing harp. The brass-plated chandelier casts a dull sheen in your lamplight, as if to half-heartedly warn you away. The fireplace lies cold, decorated by alabaster figurines of dancers neatly placed on the mantelpiece. Velvet upholstered chairs line the walls for those that would be serenaded with what would no doubt be beautiful music. It's lonely here. A chill hangs in the air.
Searching for a bit you arrive to the harpsichord, under it you hear some noises; something breathing and moving. With fear you look beneath it, just to find a small dog hidden under the chair. He is rail-thin and starving, and terrified. A tag on his leash identifies him as Lancelot, owned by a woman named Gertruda. He moves away from every movement you do, doesn't matter how small.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Me and animals have never had great mutual regard for each other." Simon says doubtfully, nevertheless bending down to scratch the dog behind it's ears. " What do you see? " He whispers.
Simon crouches next to the dog and gives him his hand. At first it seems reluctant and scared, but with a bit of convincing he allows Simon to get close and pet him a bit. Garren searches the room, he gets closer to the alabaster figures and close inspection of them reveals that several are carvings of well-dressed skeletons. Other than that he finds nothing. Reshi sees nothing interesting either.
"Yes"Garren nods. "This place is unnerving, seemingly empty, but clearly filled with strangeness... Should we get a move on?" He crouches down to also pet the dog and stands up.
The Warlock bents down close to Simon..."Shouldn't give him back to the owner?" He asks trying to hold it in arm. Seeing that the other didn't find anything special he asks "Go back to the basement?"
Simon nods. "It is said that beasts can see the supernatural where we cannot. Let us determine the authenticity of this claim." He whistles to the dog and snaps his fingers. (Should I make another Animal Handling check or does my last one suffice?)
You exit the room and while doing so Simon snaps his fingers. Hearing that noise the dog raises his head and moves slowly towards the party, clearly hungry but hopeful. He still keeps a small distance from the group.
"There is nothing to be gained by exploring this floor further." Simon agrees. " The key lies in the basement, with the childrens parents. "

Reshi sighs, “Very well. Let us check the last room on this floor and then head for the basement.” With that Reshi reaches for the last door and opens it.
Simon holds out a long-fingered hand. "Hold."
He scans the room, and then the harpsichord. Perception: 21

Garren looks around in the room, trying to find anything that he can feed the dog.

Reshi stays in the doorway to the room and surveys both the room and the hallway.

"The air stinks of the supernatural." Simon remarks grimly.

"That's my thinking", Garren says, "If it has living owners, it must be the children's parents, so we have this additional reason to find them".
Simon nods. "It is said that beasts can see the supernatural where we cannot. Let us determine the authenticity of this claim." He whistles to the dog and snaps his fingers. (Should I make another Animal Handling check or does my last one suffice?)

Simon tosses the dog some of his rations, an act in direct opposition to everything you have gathered about his character so far.

Garren notices this and nods approvingly. We proceed to the place where we know the children's parents are hiding.
(So we make our way back down to the first floor. There are only two doors we haven’t opened there? Or is one the service elevator?)
As far as Garren remembers, the parents are supposed to be in the basement, so he walks in the direction of the entrance to the basement.
