Looking at the others for a moment, I step forward and introduce myself with a big smile. "Nice to meet you, Sagwalg. You startled us a bit with that flag you're flying - did you just come from Merklin's demesnes? As your brother just said, we're interested in any details about the marshlands you can tell us - we'd like to explore the area and wanted to be fore-warned to the hazards. As a secondary idea, we want to find a way to open discussions with the other kingdom across the lake to East. Can you guide us in that, too?"
OOC - If I need to make a roll of any kind, let me know.

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
I standby Grant close enough to lend support and listen but not enough to crowd or threaten the newcomer. A passive grin on my face I nod if anyone acknowledges my presence.
I nod as Travis joins us. " We cant trust them. I guess we will just have to wait and see. This is not what i expected to see on this ship though....our host's brother. " I say this very quietly so the new comers can't hear. Standing with the others i study them and watch for any signs of aggression while a smile is painted on my face.
"I am not advocating trust, but don't get too carried away with assigning blame either. Do you have any evidence to suspect that these people in particular had anything to do with that? And don't forget why the elves were destroyed. It was to set an example. If your Nation did such things to innocents who defied them, how quick would you be to risk the lives of everyone you care about by refusing to do whatever it is the nation wants you to do? Few people lack the resolve to be heroes in the face of that kind of evil, and fewer still have the strength necessary to stand firm before the tempest rather than just become another innocent slaughtered to provide an example for yet other people."
"We do not know this man's story, he may be complicit, and for caution's sake I think we have to treat him as such just to be safe, but it seems more likely that he is innocent of the crimes of his Masters, and is just trying to live his life."
"If we get the chance, we may be able to change that equation. That kind of control has a glaring weakness, it definitely makes people want to resist if granted a glimmer of hope, and such efforts are only hopeless if resistance remains uncoordinated, flaring up in small patches that are easily stamped out. We could give this Merklin character something to focus their attention on while we rally the people against their oppressors. Go to a town, deal with those who willingly support the regime, use a Teleport Circle spell to evacuate those without the will to fight so they cannot be used against their kith and kin as hostages, arm and recruit the rest. Move on to the next town. If we move fast enough, we could fan the flames of a full-blown revolution within a couple of days, and then if Lord Douglas chooses just the right moment to attack with his army..."
Sagwalg looks towards Grant and then the flag. He smiles, "It is the custom to fly the flag of the nation you sail into to show that you are a peaceful trader and not a war boat. If I had it my way I would burn that damn flag and the man it represents but alas I am not the fighting type. I trade here due to my brother and for profit. I would like to trade with others but the profits I get here are enough to keep me coming back plus I get to see my brother and see that he is well yet. The Eastern kingdom is Fetha it is ruled by a half elven king who is j=kind and careful. He has a score of war galleons to make sure this Merklin does not eye his kingdom as he has eyed the two he has taken over to grow his empire. Having news of a new power in the area is enough to help him relax some as we all wait and see what happens in this power struggle. I do hope that your Lord is powerful and can withstand Merklin as he is not one to go down easy. I have heard that he has some powerful magic from his followers and himself.
As far as the black death marsh. I have not explored much into it but I have been on some of the fringes as there are some seriously rare herbs inside it. I have heard things and seen dancing lights further inside. I have heard that a black dragon is around there but not sure where. I hope that helps you some but I do not have any more info than that. "
Responding to Sagwalg, I answer "Well, although we don't have easy access to the waters and can't field a navy, I'm sure this Merklin has been and will be unpleasantly surprised by the forces we can field, if he decides to be even more aggressive. We've already proven our mettle against his forces, on a number of occasions, and your words and other information we've gathered has shown us our resistance is deserved and needed. We have more surprises in store, as well, beyond the typical so we're ready. While our arrival here wasn't planned, we are a hard nut to crack for any rodent that tries to conquer us. We intend to check out the marsh areas, and see what we can learn, as we have need for various herbs that that place could provide, as well as taking care of a dragon in the area would help anchor our base better. Afterwards - or perhaps at the same time - we will be wanting to send an emissary to Fetha and open discussions and trade, for certain. Could we charter a ride aboard your ship, once we decide to go?"

"Sure bring your emissary forward and I will ensure they are well cared for on the ride back across the lake. I will be leaving as soon as the wares are off loaded for the trading post." You can hear and see the men and women aboard the ship busy unloading supplies and bringing them to the end of the dock where t is indexed and checked off by Keoatha before they are hauled to the trading post itself. "As far as buying passage on my boat that is but a 5 gold charge each way. I am sure you will find the kingdom of Fetha very pleasant compared to this area."
Listening to the rantings of Grant, I wait until we can speak as a group to the side. "Hey Grant, I wonder if what your proposing is a bit premature. It wasn't just us that repelled the orc hoard, as far as I recall it was a bunch of mages throwing fireballs indiscriminately that knocked most of them and myself out. I'm in no rush to see what Merkin has over there. When I do a mission, I like to know we can handle it without calling on the Calvary. This swamp thing, seems doable. If the dragon's been ousted from his den, we'll probably face far fewer problems, plus we can retreat if we need to. I mean, I'm just really getting the hang of this Crusader path I'm on and am happy that the last two times out I didn't wind up tanking the floor again. That's all I'm saying. If the group says go, I'll go, but I'd prefer to wait."
"Fetha Jonathan, not Merklin. We're talking about visiting the friendly Nation rather than the genocidal one." Stepping forward, I nod to the captain, " any chance that you have the space for all of us? We work as a team. Also, how long is the voyage?"
Sagwaly nods at Jason and says, "Hop on board we will be leaving here shortly. I have room for all and the trip is seven days with good winds and clear days."
"I'm looking forward to a bit of shipboard travel, myself. I've always enjoyed sailing. Jason, we should send an update to the Lord as to our plans. Want me to send Ariel? He can find us on the water without trouble."I say as I gather my goods. "Sagwalg, horses as well? Do we hobble them aboard or what do you need us to do for them?"Taking the reigns, I lead my horse up the gangway and go where directed to get him comfortable. After that, I head to the assigned sleeping cabin/arrangements and prepare for the journey. Once we are underway, I'll spend a bit of my time at the prow, enjoying the fresh wind and open waters.

I grin at the idea of a trip on the water. " This is the closest we will get to a Carnival Cruise in this world I suppose. " I glance at Vickie and laugh. " Here is our chance to get some more sun. Want to lay out during the trip? I dont see a good spot to do that though. You get what you pay for I suppose. " I wink at Vickie.
Walking quickly across the gangway I look back at Caesar. He hesitates at the edge. Caesar instead jumps into the water and walks to the ship. The water is never higher than chesr deep on him. When he reaches the edge he scrambles over the side quickly and the boat shudders when his 900 pounds land on the deck.
"I am sure we can find time ti get a bit of sun. I am looking forward to this trip."
I gather my things and leac my horse up the gangway and place her where instructed to and then head to my assigned room to place my bags and thigs there. I hope Rachel an dI will be sharing a room together, to be abel to chat with her would be nice.
"Well, looks like we are all going on a trip in a boat. Yeah, count me and my horse," Travis says. "Somehow, I don't think this will be a pleasure cruise either, He adds.
As you load up the ship with your selves and the horses you are shown too small cabins. Rachel and Vickie get a bit larger cabin close to the captains cabin. Each cabin sleeps two. There are ten cabins so you can decide how you wish to divide up. Jason and Thalica are given a cabin for them to share. While most have hammock type of beds the cabins Rachel/Vickie and Jason/Thalica were given have a wide bed. Just one bed.
Once everyone is on board the crew starts preparing to cast off and make way back across the lake. Sagwalg is last to board carrying a small chest that he stores in his cabin. After that he is one the main deck ordering the crew as they cast off and set sail back to the east. He does tell you that they will pass close to the march during the trip back as the easterly wind are more favorable on the south side of the lake. Soon you can feel the wind in your hair and the suns on your faces as you watch the western end of the lake and the trading post rapidly disappear. Soon you see nothing but water all around as the ship rolls with the waves as it cuts to the east.
Activating my Endure Elements once settled, I spend a bit of time associating with any crew members that aren't busy, talking about the weather and waters of this world, and the creatures and places they've seen. I nod at Grant's suggestion, "Actually I was thinking of doing a bit of aerial recon as we pass it the first time, get an advance warning of what we'd be dealing with. I suspect we'll want to purchase a few skiffs, light enough to carry over land and shallow enough to pole up the various waterways."
Later that evening, I kiss Thalica after retiring to our cabin, "It is nice to finally have a little privacy my love, it's been tough to get out on the road."
