"I see a lantern," Winn says, squeezing between everyone in order to get to it. The minute she reaches the cellar floor, she immediately stands on her tiptoes. She doesn't see any rats yet, but she hears them and it's disgusting. She instinctively keeps her arms up as well as she gingerly reaches for the lantern.
As winn approaches the ground she notices 4 rats trying to sneak up on her. By trying to sneak up, I mean they are making the biggest racket ever while slowly approaching her at the pace of 5ft per turn.
When she grabs the lantern and lights it, the rats squeak something which you assume means, "Shit, our cover is blown. How did she know we were here?" and flee into the shadows.
Everyone can now see the rats. There are 4 of them here but there might be more still hiding.
"Oh, good, the rats are aggressive," mutters Ori, leaning on his borrowed stick. "Perhaps now is a good time to actually make a plan? Traps are still my suggestion. They seem to be scared of the light more than people." Ori flicks his tail again, a clear sign of agitation and nerves. "Or we could just set the whole place on fire," he murmurs to himself.
"Look here, don't get me wrong I am glad the rats fled, I mean I don't want to get bit but aren't we supposed to come up with a more permanent solution." Joben wants to be reassured that someone among the group has an idea of how to take care of the rats. "Maybe we could get some cheese or something to bait some sort of trap. We are smarter than these rats, they're just animals, let's start acting like it and come up with a way to deal with them."
"I feel like the time for making traps was before we came down here, perhaps we should go back upstairs and think this through before we get bit." Joben is losing confidence in those around him as they prove themselves rash by their idiotic charge down into a basement cellar full of rats with no clear idea on how to deal with them.
"I bet my brother has some traps we could use," Ori chimes in, not being particularly rash and liking the idea of planning ahead. "I mean, he traps rabbits and things, we'd just need to... change them up a bit. But I would suggest we get out of the cellar now." He adds this as he begins backing toward the stairs.
"Oh, yes, let's get out of here." Winn is quick to get up the stairs. The rats may be gone now, but she didn't like that they were so close to her before she got to the lantern.
”A wise man once said ‘know your enemy’. It would have been foolish of us to start collecting or building traps while knowing nothing about the size, number, or disposition of the rats. But yes, it is now time to leave.” Williamsays, backing towards the ladder.
Joben hurries up the stairs, quick to make sure he is not the last one left down there... alone... in the dark... with the rats.
"What would be really good is if we could get rid of them without putting ourselves in any danger. Does anyone have any ideas off the top of their head, I mean we can't use fire because we might end up burning down the tavern."

Joben doesn't see anything outside the cellar.
Winn follows them downstairs, glancing around as she does so.
Perception: 10
Winn sees a lantern at the bottom of the stairs but no rats yet. She can hear them though.

You don't see anymore rats hiding. You see the fleeing rats disappear deeper into the cellar. They went North.
Johnnie, seeing the rats flee, will now start looking for a tapped keg that he can fill his tankard from; perception/investigation(?): 2

Karl has also descended into the cellar. “I guess I agree with Orinyn and Joben... well, partially. We need to lure these rats out.”
Johnnie, you can't find a keg here. Maybe it's deeper in the dark?
“I’m all for luring them out. I can’t see shit down here. Does anyone own any traps?”
"Not me," Winn replies. "I can ask if Uncle has any. There's probably some at a shop, too. Ooh! Or maybe we can make some!"
