Thrann steps off the ship, and feels whole again now that he's on solid ground. He enjoys the sight of beholding something brand new to him, witnessing activities he's not familiar with and seeing denizens of the port behaving in a manner he hasn't. "Whatta beaut." Thrann chimes in when Usul asks for intel from Captain Hamma. "Can't wait ta stretch ma legs... an' of course, crush some skulls."
Captain Hamma yells to you, "If yer' looking for a place to sleep, you can go to the Thundering Lizard Inn. It's a bit rowdy, but good enough. Kaya's House of Repose is a bit more, quiet. And if ye' going in the jungle I would recommend getting a guide, most of them seem to know what they're doin'." With that, he waves you off, and starts unloading crates.
"Thunderin' Lizard Inn? Soun's like ma kin'a inn!" Thrann exclaims, waving as Captain Hamma sails off. "Whaddya say lads?" He asks the party with a glimmer in his eyes, as Thrann loves bar fights almost as much as he loves drinking in bars.
To the group Usul says "That sounds like a good place to start. Thrann, please try to retrain yourself. Let's not ruin our reputation here before it's even begun."
Usul will be, as usually, riding Muad, with Duncan on Muad's head, through town. Checking the sites.
((@DM. Keep in mind that Usul has a passive perception of 19, so he's quite aware of what's going on while riding around town.))
"It's quite hot here... we should buy some jungle clothing to be more comfortable, and fit in with the locals." he says, while keeping an eye out for a clothing shop on the way to the Thundering Lizard.
((I'd like to buy some local style, yet darkly colored (probably dark greens since we'll be in the jungle) clothing. We don't need to RP it. Just let me know how much it is and then we'll say Usul is now wearing it))
((I'd also like to find a shop to buy more coal and incense for find familiar, and spend maybe 60g on it (so I have extra for later). I'll then ask the shop keeper what local owls they have here, and recast Duncan so that he appears as an owl native to Chult.))
"Oi, don' thenk we'd be fittin' in at all, I don' see any other gnomes or dwarves. We stick oot like a sore thumb." Thrann adds in, while riding his mule, Betsy, as they make haste to the Thunder Lizard Inn.
As you wander through the streets, you feel the earth shake. You look around, and see a massive lizard, almost as big as Gregory, walk through the street. It walks on four legs, and has two rows of massive plate running down its back, and four massive spikes on the end of its tail. A human is leading it around with a rope attached to a bridle. He's yelling something in the native language you do not understand.
After a while, you hear some familiar yelling. Even though only a little is in Common, it is unmistakable, a market. A massive tent, stretching out in three directions. As you enter, your noses are immediately assaulted by the differing smells of seasoned meats, exotic perfumes, and the sweat that always is present with large groups. You see people from just about every race, and it takes you no time at all to find a clothing store. for 25 gp, you can buy a set of native green clothes. The collar is a bright yellow, is lined with red, blue, pink, and green feathers. The rest is a deep green. As you put it on, it falls over your body, kind of like a tunic or a poncho. It fits perfectly, and you're surprised that they had one in your size.
It takes you a little bit more time, but you are able to find a bird keeper. He does have owls, but none native to Chult. He shows you two native birds. The first has deep blue feathers, a black beak, and three feathers that sprout from the top of its head. The second is a black bird with a white stomach. It has a long beak, with bands of different colors.
After fitting the new clothes Usul will pull Dib out of his pocket and say to him "So what do you think?... Yeah... Pretty nice eh?"
At the pet shop, turning to his bird Usul says "So Duncan, which style would you prefer?" And Duncan looks towards the deep blue one. "I thought so. I'll change you tonight before bed." then to the party "Let's head to the Inn and see what we can learn about this town. That large elephant lizard a minute ago was very interesting. Hamm, maybe Gregory can make some friends here."
Just before arriving at the inn Usul will turn to the group and ask "Remember that our goal here is to find the Soulmonger. I don't know what that is... or even really how we'd go about asking for it. Syndra said that her Harpers contacts told her of it. Perhaps trying to find a member would be a good place to start?"
((DM note: We didn't really discuss factions, though judging by their beliefs and goals if Usul were to belong to any faction, it'd be the Harpers.))
“How about you guys head in I am just fascinated by this creature. I must get a closer look. I’ll be in soon.”
(I want to try and wild shape into this thing eventually. Idk how that works if I just try it with any animal I see or if I have to study each one to see how they may behave)

"Ah agree, le's hit the inn and ask aroun'. I'll hit the bar." Thrann suggests encouragingly. Upon arrival to the Thundering Lizard Inn, he hurriedly moves to the bar to speak with the barkeep. "Oi, pint a mead this way!" Thrann calls out loudly, as he slams down a gold piece onto the counter. "An' ah got 'nother fer anyone who can tell me whut they know 'bout Soulmonger and this curse." He shouts vehemently as he peers over his shoulder, directing the message to the occupants of the inn as he wafts the gold piece between his fingers.
As Hamm looks at the beast, its supposed owners looks at him strangely. After realizing that Hamm has never seen one of these creatures, he approaches, and begins to speak in broken Common. "Me Atuar. This Chuil, a spike-tail." Atuar guides Hamm's hand in petting Chuil. After a while of being around the spike-tail, you realize that is too (big, weird, complicated? I'm not sure the narrative reason for why a high CR means you can't transform into a certain beast) for you to transform into.
When Thrann speaks of the Soulmonger, the room grows quiet. Eyes turn towards him, as if he's said something wrong. After a brief moment, everyone turns sword their drinks, and continue talking. The bartender walks towards Thrann and says. "Many have been talking of the Soulmonger recently. Are you another adventurer?"
"Aye." Thrann responds. "Ah'm here to crush the Soulmonger er whutever's causin' this curse. Name's Thrann Wildhammer!" Thrann states boldly, while observing the bartender furthermore while waiting for his drink.
"Ah, how many times I've heard that. Well, I can tell you this, try to hire a guide. They give you a better chance of coming out of the jungle alive. Also, I've heard that there are giant snapping turtles in Snapping Turtle Bay. One of them is as big as a house. He’s known as King Toba, and his shell has gemstones embedded in it."

"Well, inns and taverns are always a good place to get to know the city you're in, I suppose we should probably head there."
