(you could probably ranged attack him lol. Or jump on a table :D I knew what carl was doing and I had Thrash go in anyway because Thrash is not real wise or intelligent lol!)
As Thrash staggers back a bit as the man pummels his midsection and then delivers a hard uppercut, the tabaxi spits blood in Carl's face before quickly pulling his dagger from his belt and thrusting it towards the gut of the pirate.
Having no time or want to deal with uppity people (all people in fancy clothes who are not her captain are uppity to Alex), Alex will push past him and walk into the building. Once inside Alex will do a quick scan of the room (passive perception 12) to see who and what is in there. "I am looking for Ellaren, which one of you is Ellaren?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Looking vaguely presentable once again, and having taken a deep breath to steel his itch for war, Ve would face the moustachioed man, whose words had fallen on deaf ears so far and, keeping an eye on Thrash and this Carl character, to see if no lines were crossed that could not be walked back from, and approaching the fighting duo from behind the tabaxi, ready to heal or revive anyone was knocked out, if it came to it.
"Look," - Ve said, turning to the moustachioed man after sheathing his blade - "I'm Palladian and have just left the battlefield. Apparently, I'm still twitchy, and that plus the Ale... It's not a good mix. And clearly, it isn't just me. Everyone here is a little antsy. But we can still go our separate ways before someone drops dead. Forget this entire thing ever happened, and we'll buy you some fine wine to take to your Commandant. You two'll be able to tell your fellow men that you were slighted and beat your opponents into submission and that you have a gift to prove it, and we'll leave this port without a fuss. No prides are hurt, everybody goes home happy. What do you say?"
((Suuuper long shot, but like I said before, posting when you're hungover is bad mojo)) Persuasion: 12
(( Edit: Sounds about right.. Also, first nat 1 of the campaign. Hoo-ray, etc ))

ALEX | VARET
Alex breezed past the well-dressed man and Varet, storming into the building, asking for Ellaren. The finely-clothed man simply watched her with a cocked eyebrow, before slowly turning his head towards Varet, and taking three long, leisurely strides - closing the gap from twenty-five feet, to five in those steps. The half-elf immediately noticed the man's glistening, perfectly straight locks, pointed ears, and wistful, starry silver eyes. Who'd'a thunk it - a full-blooded Aen-Aelle. "You should keep your human pet on a shorter leash, Dun-Aelle. Unless, of course, your man-half propels you towards foolishness." His eyes were deep and boundless like the sky, the silver threads on his clothes seemed to bounce around his garb in the sunlight, and he wore a thin, subtle crown with blue sapphires, and a single black onyx in the center. "I am Ellaren, Aellish traveler. You will state your name, and your business - after, of course, you avert your companion's curiosity from my private domicile."
(( for basically everything combat related, I am rolling IRL with my balanced dice to emulate "behind the screen" rolls, and also so I can know the outcome of things without having to make a post first, and can simply fully update. so for all saves, checks, etc. for my NPCs, they are randomized I assure you (I despise railroading in the form of fudging dice - let them fall where they fall; surprise is part of the game after over a decade of playing) and this also allows me to better construct my posts for easy reading. so make sure you read closely to see what effect your spells have, since the numbers aren't included. ))
Ve turned to the bushy moustache-man, noticing that the man's demeanor was not one of fear and anxiety, but rather exasperation. "Can't be helped - Carl's just like that. That's why he's so dumb, see, the fool gets himself killed at least once a season." The party may have heard of resurrection before, but dying thrice a year? That was unheard of. Carl bobbed and weaved, making himself scarce to Thrash's powerful blows. He was very visibly tattered at this point - appearing on the verge of death, but still standing, belligerent and defiant against the tabaxi's onslaught of lacerations. He retaliated with another flurry, though this time his weakness was apparent, as he missed his first two, only managing to connect the third - at the last moment, Seldor realized what was happening, and uttered an incantation. As if made lethargic in an instant, Carl's punch connects more like a feathered pillow against the cat-barbarian's head. (( 2 ))
(( to clarify, Sarcasticfury, I rolled a total 4 on the damage reduction die, bringing his +5 down to a +1 ))
Thrash will let out another lloud roar, louder than any heard prior... although this time it was more out of frustration than anger. "Rrraarrrg! You fight pretty well.. Maybe I won't kill you" The tabaxi will say through gritted bloodstained teeth as blood drips down from his flat feline nose and on to his scarred chest. With his claws barred in one hand and his dagger in the other, Thrash would feint an attack with his claws before attempting to pluck out the mans left eye with his dagger.
Dagger Attack: 17 Damage: 6
(If that would take him to 0 hp, I would like it to be nonlethal but have him lose an eye if dying isn't a big deal lol)
'Man-half'? 'Human pet'? Internally, Varet notes the attempt to provoke, and dismisses it. Alex, this appears to be the gentleman we are seeking,he calls out, firmly sticking to his chosen path of formality, then turns back to look at the elf with what hopefully appears to be genuine respect. I am Varet, a traveller recently arrived on this island,he gives a small bow, and my colleague is Alex. We came seeking your advice, and also to ask if there is any small service we might perform for you. A sea captain who passes by this island from time to time, name of Captain Abraham, has invited us to join his crew, and I was wondering if you knew anything of him or his reputation. We were advised that you know everything that happens in this part of the world.
Too much, Varet asks himself? Nah, the flowerier and longwindeder the better, I reckon. I'll curtsy to this sod if it brings me anything useful.
Having heard this unbelievable tale from the other Pirate, it was made clear to Ve that at this point there was nothing to do but wait. It didn't seem like this other individual was particularly keen on vengeance from this assault, and so with a tad of luck, should the cat-person come out on top, complicated repercussions may yet be avoided. Standing at attention to bring a bit of healing to the tabaxi should he find himself on the losing side, but clearly not fussing too much about what happened about this 'Carl' character, or much of anything else for that matter.
At the very least, not until moustache-man or someone else stepped up to bat and things got properly complicated.
((Fairly long post for precious little mechanics. Here's the brass tax: 'Holding Lay on Hands in case Thrash goes down for the count'))
Moments after Varet call her name Alex will poke her head out. "Did someone call?" Catching the name Abraham hang in the air. Alex steps out of the door and listens to the rest of the questions. Once Varet it done, Alex will throw out her question hoping to get her question in before he can answer. "How many ships have been attacked and or sunk in the last 2 months?"
Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while. Some real life stuff came up. I'll try to resume regular posting if I can in about a week. If I don't post by then, consider the games over. Thank you all so much for playing.
If Seldor can't attack then he'll just cast Bane on Carl, who needs to make a DC15 Charisma save .
