This is based on Temple of Elemental Evil, right? So here's my concept... it's a bit quick and dirty, but I suppose it's worth a try anyway.
Name: Mark Forrest
Race/Class: Human Druid
Background: Outlander- Although he grew up in Hommlet, Mark and his parents (both hunters) always lived off the land and had minimal interaction with other villagers. As for Mark himself, he could never decide what to do with his life, but was forced into a decision when his brother was born. He chose to serve the local temple of Beory, quickly becoming a skilled druid. Some say he has an attitude problem, but no one can deny he's good at what he does.
Time zone: US Central (GMT -6)
Experience: Been playing for about 10 years now; 3.5 was my first edition, but I've been greatly enjoying 5e
About me: I'm tired. :p I've been working overnight shifts lately, and it sucks. But I've always been an avid writer/RPer and I'm always eager to get involved in more stuff like this. I'm new to DnD Beyond but have played PbP games on a handful of other forums. I'm also a furry. Hope you won't hold that against me. :p
Discord: I would personally appreciate it, and having a dice bot would probably make things simpler.
I know this is not my decision to make, but RavynAlexi is hands down the best candidate. She may need mechanical coaching, but that will be worthwhile for responses that good.

Hello! I've seen your threads around (and have been half keeping up with your DotMM thread because I really like that adventure and are curious to see how people are doing it). From what I've seen, you seem like a really awesome and creative DM whose table - or thread as it were - I would love to be a player of. And Princes of the Apocolypse is actually one of the only adventures I haven't read through myself.
I have several character concepts I can throw up depending on what you're looking for or allowing, or what works best. . I'll put one in here for now. (This is a character I created for a friends one-shot and is a little unorthadox)
- NAME : Trinia Sunshine (Trini Banana) - CLASS:Bard (looking to go college of glamour) - BACKGROUND:The short of it: -- Trini is a tiefling born to elven parents (with some infernal lineage somewhere in their ancestry that they were unaware of). Initially alarmed and confused by her birth they came to love their child and raised her as best they could teaching her the good of the world, and nature. Instead of taking to druid craft as her parents intended, Trini picked up on the creativity, and the arts. At first it was painting, and then it was performing. Songs, instruments, but what really held her attention was dance. She loved the dance. Growing up in elven society (as small of a village as it was) was difficult at first. Others distrusted her, kept their own children away from her. But Trini grew up with a bright personality and bubbly spirit with persistant optimism. She would create things for her neighbors and townfolk. (Flower crowns, paintings (she liked finger painting the most), flower bracelets) eventually people started to warm up to her. As she grew older she would spend time in the fields outside the village crafting flowers or practicing her dance. One day she met an Eladrin there who was taken with her evil appearance but her the beauty of her dancing. He began to visit, teaching her more and offering to get her out into the world. Eventually he began to use her for his own gain, keeping her tied to him, naive about most things, until she started to learn more. Eventually after hearing stories from patrons on their travels she decided to run away, and learned a harder way of life and performing by getting by on her own to get back home. (This is expanded on in the background on her character sheet) After coming back home and reuniting with her family, she stayed for some time before deciding to take off again, and this time explore on her own terms, hoping to learn more about the world and maybe find true love.
- YOUR TIME ZONE :PST Us-west coast. - YOUR D&D/PbP EXPERIENCE :Been playing IRL for a couple years now. DMing one campaign(Strahd) and playing in another(Homebrewed Tales from the Yawning Portal), and playing in one shots at times. I'm big into musicals and my favorite way to eat popcorn is with chopsticks. - VOTE : I'm good either way on this.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who was paying attention to that campaign.

Xenophon: Topaz Dragonborn Fighter (ixi's Dragon of Icespire Peak)
She was deep in thought, took another step and it suddenly gave way. The cracking sound came a few feet behind her and a few feet in front of her - she was in middle of the crevasse.
Her whole life flashed before her eyes as she grasped for nothing and fell. The joy of dad bouncing her on his knee, the trepidation as she swung the hammer as a smiths apprentice the first time, the exhilaration of the killing of her first bear., the loss at the funeral of her father... and the anguish of hearing the prisoners' scream while tortured with the tools she had forged.. and the humiliation of the exile from the clan when she had refused to build more such tools.
The ground knocked the wind out of her. She had fallen just 30 feet to the bottom of what had been an iced over, but now dry glacial river. Part of her wished for a bottomless crevasse, to step over the edge and just recall the joyful parts of her life one last time. She got up, checked her gear, her two-handed warhammer and followed the riverbed to whatever the future may hold.

Well I know for sure that I most likely won't be picked. People love long backstories, and mine was a single mid-sized paragraph. Maybe being the only cleric of the selection will be in my favor.
I do rather like my concept, but people just love angsty and tragic characters. While I don't find anything wrong with characters with tragic backstories, I definitely would like to see more variation once in a while.
I’m a novice when it comes to D&D. Whatever anyone else believes about the character I created, I was playing it safe, sticking to the information in the Player Handbook about Tieflings and just making a character with the type of life it seemed to suggest. Happy childhoods are fine where they make sense, but if your character is a race that the guide straight up says struggles with prejudice, it’s going to play a role in how the character lives from an unfortunately young age.
As someone who used to moderate RPG forums, I can tell you that airing your negativity towards others in public areas like this is not the way to go. If you have a problem with someone in particular, send them a private message. If not, maybe take a minute to clear your head and figure out what is making you feel so bitter. Maybe you’re frustrated with yourself because you feel like you could have done better than what you initially presented. And if that’s the case, feel free to write a bit more and post it for Crispy to take into consideration while she’s trying to decide. I, for one, would feel safer with one cleric than 3 bards. No offense to anyone who likes bards, but I haven’t quite figured that class out yet.
Looking at your application, I have questions: Your class is cleric, but what exactly is the domain that would be most useful in agricultural studies? What’s his race? Does he have any family? (Dinosaurs in D&D? I had no idea I’d ever run into that. Neato.)
So it’s not really a matter of length in reading your application that might be an issue. Perhaps it’s just that the background feels a little incomplete. Like two more sentences might have answered all these questions and given a better idea of what drives Grigor to make all these crazy experiments in agriculture. Again, if you feel like you sold yourself short after seeing some of the others, write up something that is more satisfying for you and give yourself a fair chance.
But being confrontational and sulky is bad form in a forum built around the idea of making friends that you can have fun and create stories together. So whatever you decide to do, take a few minutes to remove the bitterness and remember that we’re all just trying to have fun.
As I previously said (you most likely didn't see it), its fine if your character has some emotional backstory thing. It's not my cup of tea, but it's not my job to say what you can't do. All I really would like is variety once in a while. Also, it didn't ask for race or domain, so I just thought that would come up when asked during the game.
So, to answer some questions:
Domain: healing, because it enables the curing of diseases. Ya gotta heal plant diseases somehow, I suppose.
Race: human
Why does he do the cool agriculture things? Because he can, really. Being a farmer is not particularly fun or easy, so making technologies and things to make the job simpler is the best course of action.
- BACKGROUND: Born in Evereska into a wood elf family that served as servants in the home of a wealthy elf Lord, Andolin left home before his name day to live in the wilds. He was found and taken in by an ancient dragon who frequently took human form. Gathering a collection of young people to himself in the Misty Forest to the southeast of Waterdeep, the dragon formed an order of Rangers in service to the cause of good. These Rangers would travel from village to village, providing support to the local law enforcement and standing against the dangers of the wilds where they pressed against the common folk. A few months ago, the dragon gathered the order together, and told them that he had a vision of a great evil clawing it’s way into the world. He gave them orders to make their way out, to seek out this evil, and to keep it from ripping the world apart. The next day, as the Rangers gathered their gear, they found that their dragon master had disappeared in the night, leaving them with only each other. Andolin and the others set out, each in different directions, to follow the last orders of their master, and to push back against the darkness that threatened the world.

A pale green light sparks in the darkness of a forgotten cavern. The light grows brighter. And brighter. And brighter. Two more lights of the same hue appear. The two new sparks twinkle, as if a pair d eyes blinking. Then there's a sound, the groan of metal, the bending of wood, the spinning of gears. Then, a hollow voice. "What is this? What is this, please?" Silence answers. "This feels weird. This feels... I'm a peace-keeping creation, created to help the Netherese. Forged for war. What woke me up?" The clanking of mechanics and heavy steps continues, until some panels seem to shut, the sound of gears becomes muffled to silence, the steps continue but now seem light and deft. "There's a... door here." Hands reach out to the door, feeling for purchase or give, then one of the hands flip back revealing a set of tools - tools that work the ancient lock until finally a click. The sunlight seeps into the cavern, the twin green lights blink once again. A humanoid silhouette escapes into the day. --- The druid looks over the hooded figure, handing over in turn a longbow and quiver, a shield, and a scimitar. "We are glad to have found you. The Emerald Enclave welcomes you into its ranks. Although some would say that you were not born of the Toril, you care for it much. You woke up for a reason and we cannot tell you what that is for we do not know. We hope that in your exploration of this renewed world, you discover your purpose. Know that you will always have a home with our Circle. Good luck."
The figure removes the hood of the cloak, and a constructed face of wood and metal looks back at the druid with its green glowing eyes. "Thank you," the human construct replies, "I look forward to sharing what I learn with the rest of the Circle." It nods deferentially at the druid before turning away to head out of the grove in the mountains. It pulls its hood back up, but that does little to dim the green eyes of light looking out to the horizon.
