Zakon looks at Luven and then back at Viaya. "Would it be all right, Luven, if I talked to Eryn? Perhaps she can provide some clues as to what has happened to your boy. Perhaps retelling the story to a stranger might trigger some memory or detail she has forgotten." He looks intently at Luven. "After all, we don't whatever this is to happen to anyone else, do we?"he asks.
Luven nods. "Yes, she's still a bit shaken by the event, but if you can get her to talk to you, you are more than welcome."He gives a small gesture to his daughter to trust the strangers in their house and heads upstairs to check on Talos' progress. "They only intend to help," he tells her before reaching the top of the stairs.
I know! Luck of the dice wasn't with me on that one I'm afraid. ^^
The star isn't anything she recognizes with any sort of clarity. Though clearly tied to religion somehow she has no idea to which faith or deity or what its simple form is meant to represent. A fact which irks her even more once Luven tells them his daughter brought it back from the forest after whatever happened to her brother happened. "It's possible it might be nothing but you were right to keep it regardless."She says, trying to press an image of it into the back of her mind so that perhaps more details will come to her later. After a few more moments however, Viayaforces herself to let it go. It is not the only source of knowledge here after all. There is the daughter to talk to yet. Eyrn. Zakon is swift to bring this up, asking the farmer if they may speak to her. Apparently having finally granted them his trust, the other elf agrees. Gesturing his daughter forward and assuring her they mean to help before going upstairs to check on his son. Viayafrowning slightly as he does so. Were the girl her child, she would not leave her to face strangers alone. Not after what happened, not even while concerned for another child. Realizing that might be her own heart talking more bitterly than it should, the she elfpushes the thoughts and the judgement aside. Smiling at the girl gently.
"Eryn, we want to find out what happened to your brother." Shesays. "Can you tell us what you saw?"
Eryn cautiously looks up the stairs to make sure her father cannot hear. It seems that Luven knew his daughter would not talk with him around, far too afraid of being reprimanded for not doing anything to stop her brother. She looks back at the strangers. Of all of them, she feels the most familiar with Viaya. Being an elf as well gives the girl a sense of familiarity, and there is something to be said for a woman's touch. She's pretty sure she wouldn't feel too comfortable talking to the centaur.
The girl shakes her head. "I didn't see much. Vall and I sometimes like to go play outside, but Vall likes to go to the woods a lot. I don't like to, but I don't like him running off without me either. He took me to a part of the woods I had never been before. There were all these strange things hanging from the trees." She nods over at the wooden star-shaped item on the table. "Vall helped me grab one 'cause he had never seen them either. Anyway, Vall loved the woods, and kept going deeper and deeper... I was too scared to follow him, but he told me he had found a ruined building deeper in the woods. When he came back...he wasn't himself. He kept saying strange things and then he got sick when we came home."

Zakon looked at the girl intently, trying to ascertain if she was being truthful, though he didn't know why she would lie. (Insight: 21) "There were more of these hanging from the trees? Any idea who or what would have put them there? Do you remember any of the things Vall said?" he asked. Zakon didn't like the feeling he was getting from this. It felt less and less like a simple sickness and more and more like another big problem was about to drop in his lap.
It's hard to tell exactly what the girl is thinking. If anything else, fear is what she feels the most. She looks over at Zakon and shakes her head. "I don't know why those were up there. We had never been that far in the forest before. He didn't say much. He said something about words on a door and then about hurting his finger. I got him home, and then he just sort of...passed out...almost like he's asleep."
Not to rush us or anything, but I will be sending Talos back down in a moment to run through his prognosis, and hopefully, we'll get on track to meet our new players. So, within the next day or so, ask what remaining questions you have for Eryn or the rest of the family. I'll be pretty quick to respond.

"You did very well to get him home like you did." Viaya reassures the girl despite not liking what she'shearing anymore than Zakonis. "I'm sure your parents know what happened isn't your fault. Your brother would have been even worse off it you'd decided to stay behind entirely." Her recount of her brother's words makes little sense to the she elf's mind but she files them away regardless. Wondering if the boy could've encountered some sort of poisonous plant that would explain this sort of reaction. Supposes they'll have to wait until Talos is done to know for sure. Only has one more question she feels she needs to ask the girl really. "Do you think you or your father could show us where you were?" She questions. "Or point us in the right direction? We might be able to better help him or at least stop others from suffering the same fate if we can find out what he found." Doing so will take time and she knows that. Time away from the small amount of it they have to warn Cherkobe about the force of soldiers sweeping the countryside. To stop another massacre like what happened in Kolovoro. But they can't just leave things as they are here either can they? If Talos can at least heal the child they might just have to. The Valcimonians are surely a far bigger threat than whatever oddity resides in these woods.

Eryn nods slowly. "The woods start out behind our farm. We only went in about a mile before Vall went on his own. He told me that he headed due east until he hit a stream, and then followed that north. That must've been where he found the building."
She gives the group thorough directions, at least as much as she knows by the time Talos comes downstairs with his conclusions.
"It's not good,"he says, shaking his head. "It's not any kind of an illness I've seen before. After some examination, it appears the boy is not suffering from any other symptoms other than being unable to wake. He is still alive and healthy. I would almost say it is a sleeping spell, but elves are usually not affected by such things and I can detect no traces of magic being used. The only abnormality I have found was a small puncture on the boy's wrist, suggesting that this may be an elixir or potion at work. But that's only a guess at best."
It seems that the team has a big decision on their hands. On the one hand, you are on a mission to warn the rest of Goyag about the impending danger that may approach them soon. It's hard to say when Valcimonia will attack some of the larger cities. They may only cause destruction in the smaller villages to force the arm of the larger populace, or they may seek the total destruction of the area altogether. On the other hand, you find yourself hard-pressed to completely abandon this family and their situation altogether. It would seem that strange things are happening in Imela, and this mystery may just offer some clues.
Sorry to rush us here, but our new players are eager to get on board. So, what will it be? I can work with either option, though it may take me a day or so to plan what happens to you if you choose to go onward to Cherkobe. Either way, whatever you pick, the other three characters will choose the opposite so that they can be written off.

Zakon looks at Viaya. He himself is not eager to head to Cherkobe and his interest is piqued by the happenings here on the farm. "Perhaps we need to split up," he says slowly. "It is imperative for our information to get to Cherkobe. But I myself would prefer to remain here and uncover what is going on in the nearby woods." He looks at Viaya and then at Talos. "What do you think?"
Viayalistens intently as Eryn tells them the direction her brother took in the forest and with concern as Talosreturns to relay the boy's condition. It seems they have a choice to make, and in her book it's not an easy one. Word has to be spread about the Valcimonian attack, her people need to know the danger they're in, but the people here need help too. And regardless of the necessity of it, the elf knows that her going to Cherkobe could have serious consequences. If questions are asked, if certain things are inquired after. She has no wish for certain people to get wind of her location or to retrace her steps back closer to home. Perhaps Zakonis right then and they should split ways but she is uncertain how seriously the officials in the other town will take the word of outsiders and Talos, Bree, and the Centaurare certainly that. Still..."I would be lying if I said I did not feel the same." She admits, nodding to Zakon. "Some of us should stay and investigate further while the others continue and I for one would like to stay. I might be able to...help ease your discussions with the officials in Cherkobe once you reach them however." Viaya looks to Talos. "I can write a letter, mark it with a seal in wax of a signet ring I have. It should get you in the door at least." It's a risk, but so is going there and hopefully in all the chaos that ensues following their news no one will think to ask where they met someone with access to such a seal. Her family's mark carrying weight but not immediately recognizable to most.
((I'm certainly up for staying at the farm and sending the other three off. Looking forward to meeting the new players too. :) Let me know if Viaya's idea is alright Theojen.))
Well, hot dang! Must be an elf thing. I found that I got a lot of lucky rolls with my elf character.
In the end, Talos, Bree, and Axis opt to go onward to Cherkobe in the hopes of warning others about the Valcimonian advance. Talos also seems to believe that if the rest of the group cannot find a cure for the boy in the woods, he may be able to find something in the city. Viaya entrusts Bree with the letter sealed with her family crest. The halfling is tempted to ask the elf about how she has a sigil ring on her, but thinks better of it, realizing that time is of the essence. The three leave on the path east, leaving the two rogues to scout out this building in the woods. If there are indeed dangerous things out there, the two might be able to spot traps and solve the mystery.
Along the way, Viaya'ssenses are at their peak. Perhaps it is the severity of the situation. Despite everything she feels about her family, she wouldn't wish genuine harm upon them, and therefore, she feels for this family who are so desperate to seek a cure for their son. Perhaps it is the stress of everything they have been through. Either way, as the two travel further into the woods, she is able to spy quite a bit.
Not far into the woods, she sees the wooden effigies hanging from the trees right where Eryn said they would be. To the ordinary eye, no one would have noticed them as they appear to look like only lose branches to anyone not paying attention. It gives Viaya a bit of an uneasy feeling. Any minute now, she's expecting hooded members of a cult to suddenly appear. Everything about this whole situation feels off. But, with Zakon right behind her and armed, she hopes they might stand a chance against whatever they may face.
Suddenly, two sounds draw her attention at once. Off to the right, she hears a twig snap, followed by a heavy thud. She sees a thick, dark shadow form in the trees. [This is Theodore.] Off to the left, she hears voices and sees two figures halt in their tracks at the site of her. They are closer than the larger figure, and Viaya can just make out the short and stout figure of a dwarf and the taller figure of a man [Ruggero andKelvinrespectively].
Kelvinquickly reaches out an arm to block his recent companion, the tiny silvery scales that subtly work their way up his arms catching the forest light. He peers at the elf cautiously, grey eyes glinting as he nervously runs his hand through his messy crop of silver hair and bends down to whisper something to the dwarf at his side. He walks forward a step, his hand moving ever so slightly to the dagger at his belt, even though more violence is the last thing he wants right now and he was never much good at knife fighting even if it was.
"Hello there!" Kelvincalls out, his breath misting in the air. "Friends I hope, or at the least passersby? My friend and I have had a rough couple of days" hesmiles tiredly at the dwarf."What are you doing out here alone? Are you alone?"
Kelvin cranes his neck, looking behind the elf for any of her companions or potential threats.
Perception:18
Hey guys! Thanks so much for letting me join up, I'm excited to start :)
Theodore stops abruptly. He clears his throat loudly, so as to alert others to his presence "Uhm Mmm Hmm. I mean you no harm. May Justice prevail." He steps forward slowly. Attempting to make himself as presentable as he can by smoothing his hair and making sure the holy amulet is visible on his chest. "These are trying times to wander in the woods."
Once the matter of who will go and who will stay has been settled and Bree, Axis and Talos set out for Cherkobe, sheand Zakon waste no time heading out into the forest. While the boy's condition may not be worsening neither of them feel any need to wait. A sense of urgency propelling them deeper into the trees and despite or perhaps because of the fog of the previous night's events still clouding the edges of her mind, Viayafinds herself hyper aware of the task at hand. Soon spotting the hanging wooden stars just like the one Eryn and her brother brought home with them and pointing them out to Zakon. Not that discovering them brings her any peace, a distinct sense of unease trailing cold fingers up her spine as they continue forward. Her attempts to search her memory for the star's place in either history or worship and focus on her surroundings leading to her forgetting to be as quiet as she likely should have been and though she spots the figures moving through the trees ahead of them before they spot her the difference lasts seconds at best. Leaving her facing down three strangers in the open. Freezing in her tracks, the elf looks between the three warily. Easing back half a step in an attempt to block Zakon from the sight of the two onthe left at least. More grateful than ever to have the gnomish man at her back as the taller of the two steps forward. The scales on hisarms catching the fading forest light as it filters through the trees. Hisown stance wary even as his tone is meant to seem friendly.
"Not interested in being enemies if that's what you mean." Viaya calls back, keeping her own hands in plain sight and away from her weapons if only for diplomacy's sake. "And not quite." Alone that is. It's as close to the truth as she's willing to get right now and she's not about to tell the man why she's out here just yet either. It's none of his business what her business is and he might well be one of the people responsible regardless. Eyes widening, the elf glances to the right as more twigs break and a half orc steps forward out of the brush. Clearing histhroat and doing his best to appear non-threatening it seems. The holy symbol around hisneck giving Viayaenough pause to consider that this lot might not be crazy murderous cultists more than anything else has thus far though she still isn't entirely sure they can be trusted. "I could ask you all the same question and point out all the same facts." Crossing her arms, the elf tilts her head expectantly. "You first. What are you lot doing out here in the middle of nowhere?"
Welcome in jsmall! We're excited to have all of you. ^^

Ruggero, lost in his own thoughts about what he and his recent traveling companionhave managed to evade, is brought back to their dark reality as Kelvin's scaled arms halt him. Ruggero whips his dwarven head up, his long mane whipping in the air, and notices that the once empty trail they have been wandering through is now occupied by an elf and half-orc. "More trouble?" he whispers to Kelvin. He holds back, his hand tightening on the handle of his battle-ax, and watches Kelvin take a step forward.
"Hello there!" Kelvincalls out, his breath misting in the air. "Friends I hope, or at the least passersby? My friend and I have had a rough couple of days" he smiles tiredly at the dwarf. "What are you doing out here alone? Are you alone?"
Ruggero looks uponKelvin and awaits for the others to make their move.
ok, easy everyone. Let's keep our heads. He keeps his hands clear from his sides. I am Theodore. A servant of Helm. I am wandering through the woods because the roads are not safe. My order sent me to inquire about an outlying temple that has gone quiet. He takes another step and looks from the human and dwarf to the elf and figure hiding behind the elf. He speaks again quietly, almost to himself. Perhaps Helm has guided me here.
Zakon, frozen in astonishment, suddenly snaps back to himself. Whatever he had expected to find in these woods, a half-orc servant of Helm was not one of them. He steps out from behind Viaya, nodding to the three newcomers. "Perhaps we were all guided here." Zakon looks at Viaya, a question in his eyes. "We are not looking for trouble, as she has said," he says with a nod of head towards Viaya. He is hesitant to reveal the real reason behind their foray into the woods, but he has questions that need answers and perhaps these three have some of them. Zakon inclines his head towards the strange symbols hanging in the trees. "I am new to the area - do you know what these are?" he asks.

They are closer than the larger figure, and Viaya can just make out the short and stout figure of a dwarf and the taller figure of a man [Ruggero and Kelvin respectively].

Kelvin quickly reaches out an arm to block his recent companion, the tiny silvery scales that subtly work their way up his arms catching the forest light.
"Hello there!" Kelvin calls out, his breath misting in the air. "Friends I hope, or at the least passersby? My friend and I have had a rough couple of days" he smiles tiredly at the dwarf. "What are you doing out here alone? Are you alone?"
Kelvin cranes his neck, looking behind the elf for any of her companions or potential threats.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for letting me join up, I'm excited to start :)
Incantis, half-elf warlock (great old one) 4/bard 1 ● Thorok Earthhand, hill dwarf mountain druid 6/grave cleric 2
Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
Once the matter of who will go and who will stay has been settled and Bree, Axis and Talos set out for Cherkobe, she and Zakon waste no time heading out into the forest. While the boy's condition may not be worsening neither of them feel any need to wait. A sense of urgency propelling them deeper into the trees and despite or perhaps because of the fog of the previous night's events still clouding the edges of her mind, Viaya finds herself hyper aware of the task at hand. Easing back half a step in an attempt to block Zakon from the sight of the two on the left at least. More grateful than ever to have the gnomish man at her back as the taller of the two steps forward. The scales on his arms catching the fading forest light as it filters through the trees. His own stance wary even as his tone is meant to seem friendly.
Clearing his throat and doing his best to appear non-threatening it seems. The holy symbol around his neck giving Viaya enough pause to consider that this lot might not be crazy murderous cultists more than anything else has thus far though she still isn't entirely sure they can be trusted. "I could ask you all the same question and point out all the same facts." Crossing her arms, the elf tilts her head expectantly. "You first. What are you lot doing out here in the middle of nowhere?"
Welcome in jsmall! We're excited to have all of you. ^^

Ruggero, lost in his own thoughts about what he and his recent traveling companion have managed to evade, is brought back to their dark reality as Kelvin's scaled arms halt him.
"Hello there!" Kelvin calls out, his breath misting in the air. "Friends I hope, or at the least passersby? My friend and I have had a rough couple of days" he smiles tiredly at the dwarf. "What are you doing out here alone? Are you alone?"
Ruggero looks upon Kelvin and awaits for the others to make their move.

ok, easy everyone.
