Yes, that was my understanding. The map makes it look like it's just a mound of rubble, but actually it's a massive pile from the collapsed tower that has completely blocked passage through to the south east.
Strix, both doors are quite big and heavy, but you still get a clear sense from the other side. (The nat 20 works for both doors).
You hear mostly silence beyond the door to the east. It probably opens to an empty room, perhaps smaller than the hallway you are in. You don't hear anyone there, but the sounds of... something... moving in an agitated fashion are a little stronger here.
The door to the south leads outside the castle; the sounds of woodland life are clear in this direction; the wind through the trees, the occasional bird call. You don't hear any specific creatures or presence outside, just the general background music of the forest. The sounds of the creature to the east are fainter - still audible, but only just.
Incantis offers to get the door. He counts down in your minds: 3....2....1....Go!
So, in a show of perfect co-ordination, he opens the door, and Dekhan and Strix toss the dead goblin through. You watch as it arcs through the air and lands, with a soft thump, onto... a bed. You peek through the doorway together at the room beyond. A stone brazier full of coals glows in the middle of this small barracks. Four straw pallets are lined up along the east wall. The wall to the south has collapsed, but a barred wooden door in that direction is still clear. A curtain hangs in an archway to the north. There are signs of disturbance; it seems this room was occupied until very recently.
The dead goblin landed head first on one of the pallets and is now upside-down; it's very undignified.
Strix sees nothing worth searching but there's the makings of an awesome fire trap with the pallets and the brazier. Only question is which door needs the attention.... Seeing Scupper head north, he turns to Dekhan.
"think is something south. Heard shuffling. Man, beast, not know. Want try fling gobbie gain?"
Sildar reaches into his jacket and pulls out two Potion of Healing vials, drinking one himself and offering the other to anyone in the group who wishes to take it. I have a feeling we are near our target, whatever that turns out to be.
Strix listens at the southern door (perception 15 ) for signs of life. Specifically trying to ascertain if it's goblins (or other peoply noises) or more monster/animally
Ooc : since there's nothing in here, that door must lead to where I was digging earlier.
Strix, you notice as you approach the door that there is a large heavy wooden bar on this side. From the strain put on the various parts of the door, you would guess that something has tried to force its way out from the other side before, and failed.
As you listen, you definitely hear something, most likely one large creature, moving around on the other side of the door. It's making no effort to be quiet, and you can now feel its heavy steps, ever so faintly, through the stone castle floor.
Unless it's got a smelly owlman fetish, I'm thinking Incantis or Dekhan have the best charisma, though admittedly I've never checked, might be Scupper. Anyone got Animal Handling proficiency?
Does Incantis get any feedback if he tries his psychic chat, on whether it was received and how friendlily?
Ah we could just leave the door west open as a retreat (or to look like that's where we went), tip the beds over for cover, throw in our trusty green Trocaire Box and see what happens?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sorry folks, was the Wee Man's 6th birthday this weekend and things have been... energetic. But the party is over, the house is trashed, and I can get back to the serious business of setting fire to imaginary creatures.
Varinth comes into the room, looks upon the situation, and sets himself up in front of the southern door( 5 foot back). With his diamond in one hand and staff in the other, he nods to Dekhan that he is ready for him to unbar the door. Should whatever comes through the door look anything not tamable and aggressive, Vaz with hurl a Chromatic Orb at it (Fire, obviously).
To Hit: 24 Damage: 16 (Using Tides of Chaos to gain advantage on the To Hit roll)
Just to be clear, are you going to ready the spell? If you ready a spell, you cast it immediately, and just hold off on releasing it until a trigger. You can only hold it for six seconds, too, and if you don't use it in time, you've still used up the spell slot.
(oh thank gods) No I don't ready the spell! Varinth just looks ready. We shall see what emerges (if Dekhan wants to open the door) and take it from there...

Strix listens at the door to the east (perception 25 then at the door to the south (perception 18) looking for a reason to go either way.

Strix looks around for a dead goblin, drags it to the eastern door, gestures to Dekhan for help, opens it and throws it through.
The idea is to draw fire onto the Goblin corpse and dash through to cover so we don't end up choked in the doorway.
Edit : I meant Eastern! (Took me 31 mins to realise my mistake though)

Dekhan sheathes Talon and takes one side of the goblin and waits for further instructions.

Such a shame. His mum would be so shocked he turned out this way. I'll chance me arm and check the curtain (shield spell at the ready)

Incantis sneaks into the bedroom with you. Stealth 23
You both peek through the curtain, into a dull, empty room with no furniture; just a hallway.
There's a door headed east, and another west.
Dekhan does his best to reign in the smile on his face But he looks so comfortable.

Oooh. Prisoner? Emergency troll? Could be a potential ally or a doomsday beast to unleash if it all goes to shit. Should we just leave it?

What’s behind that last curtain? Anyone?
I’m thinking not a prisoner. But it might be guarding a prisoner...who’s the most likely to make nice with a monster?

Incantis can only communicate telepathically with creatures he can see. And he doesn't receive any feedback about how the message is received.
