Kirinar is not bitter or upset. He is truly impressed by the sheer mass and volume of this place. And growing up in a small town on the edge of a swamp, he really had lead a pretty sheltered life! The party makes its way to the Temple of Savras. Passing through the front gates you see the symbol of Savras, a monstrous eye.
When you pass through you see an older man with white hair who appears to be in the midst of a heated conversation with three humans in cloaks. Their voices are raised and you hear that they are looking for someone named Artus Cimber. One of the humans offers a large red gem to the priest, appearing to be offering payment. The priest begins to shoo them away. The humans seem hesitant to leave without satisfaction, but with your arrival they change their minds, and they depart with scowls on their faces.
After they have left the white haired man approaches you.
"I am head priest of the temple, my name is Zitembe. Savras provides the third blessed eye, allowing both foresight and hindsight, so that mortals can access the omniscience of the gods. How may we serve you today? What knowledge do you seek?"
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai walks up to the priest bows, doffs his blue skullcap and says “Master Diviner Zitembe, permit me to introduce myself? My name is Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai which in the language of my people means ‘he who seeks knowledge’.”
He laughs and says in response in response to Zitembe’s question “what knowledge do you seek?" “Well like you I seek the truth in all things both great and small and so I value any and all knowledge not matter insignificant it may appear at the time.”
He looks to the sky as if seeking guidance from a Greater Being and then says “let me tell you my story. I am as you can see a Tortle and we are a long-lived race who to put it simply value knowledge and the wode range of experiences that contribute to its generation. I had the misfortune to live during the Time of the Troubles – or Spellplague or as others refer to it - which caused such turmoil over 100 years ago. In the years following the Troubles I travelled wildly across Toril in order to better understand the Weave and how it impacted on life at all levels and in particular how powerful entities, Gods, Primodial beings, Powerful Devils and Demons, Liches, etc., are able to bend the Weave to their will and whether this bending and twisting of the Weave has unforeseen consequences, such as the Spellplague as nature seeks to balance itself.”
He then goes onto say “during this time I became a follower of the Lady of Mystery and for the last couple of years I have been at the Great Library at Candlekeep, where I had the opportunity to read the great Alaundo’s original manuscripts, undertaking further research. However recently, my patron – although I prefer to call her a friend – asked me to undertake research into this Death Curse. Her research has indicated that this affliction is being caused by some type of necromantic artifact, referred to as the Soulmonger, which is believed to be here somewhere in Chult. As my friend’s request directly aligned with my own area of study, I was more than happy to undertake this field work for my friend."
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai finishes with "as my colleagues do not know where to begin our search for this Soulmonger any guidance that you or your master could provide on it would be much appreciated.”
Zitembe bows a slightly as you address him. "It is our honor, aged one, to have your presence among us. It is not often that we meet one who seeks such knowledge. Mortals who employ only their two common eyes are essentially blind."
He bids you follow him further into the temple grounds.
"Yes, the Death Curse. We have heard of it and seen some of its effects. But Chult? I would not think that this curse has anything to do with Chult. We are a small island in a big world."
He considers further,
"As for this artifact, the Soulmonger you said? I have never heard of such a thing. Much knowledge passes through this temple, if there was such a thing I would think I would have heard of it. What leads your patron to believe that it is here?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"As for this artifact, the Soulmonger you said? I have never heard of such a thing. Much knowledge passes through this temple, if there was such a thing I would think I would have heard of it. What leads your patron to believe that it is here?" Zitembe asks Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai.
“Thank you for you warm welcome Master Diviner Zitembe” Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai replies. As best he can he tries to determine if it is possible that Zitembe may know more than he is letting on (Insight roll: 18 & Perception roll: 23).
He then goes onto say “as far as I am aware, my patron sought information from across her broad network, which I understand includes contacts here in Chult as well as places much further afield, possibly even inter-planar connections, as to what the network’s members knew of this device.”He thinks for a minute and says “whilst my patron is convinced that Soulmonger is located here, she did not share with me the source of this belief. It is perhaps something I will ask her when I meet with her tomorrow at His Perspaciouness Wakanga O’tamu's villa where she is staying.”
He then thinks further as if trying to work out what next to say and then continues “I am not an arcane technician or artificer, rather my area of expertise is into the impact of devices and individuals on the Weave, so I have no idea how big this Soulmonger device is, it could be the size of this” he says reaching into his backpack “tinderbox or the size of your temple! Nor do I know who built it but if it is the source of the Death Curse it would have to have been a very powerful arcanist indeed. If the device is in Chult as my patron believes then I would think its impact would have first been observed here as it was powered up – if that is indeed what was done? The Death Curse first hit the Sword Coast 15 days ago and I suspect its impact is steadily expanding across all of Toril. I have no idea how fast it is expanding its influence but if my hypothesis is correct, as is my patron’s assertion the Soulmonger is located somewhere here in Chult, then your citizens would have been the first to be impacted by the Death curse perhaps two Ten-days or more ago?”
