Conway feels a fog leave him. Almost as if he was zombified for the last fight and just acting on instinct. Conway sees Fawn and Halben head towards the mage. Conway then pulls his tome from thin air and begins reading
Fawn goes over to the mage and begins searching his body. As she gets closer she notices the red garb he wears. She recalls that this garb is usual for Thay, a land far to the east where wizards pattern their flesh with tattoos. He doesn't appear to have much on him as he wasn't planning on going to town to purchase anything. However, she does notice a ring in the shape of a shield on the wizard's hand.
Cypress puts his nose to the ground and smells for gold. After careful examination, he is positive that he zombies have nothing of value. However, his nose leads him insight the tent. As Cypress enter's the tent he sees a comfortable traveling suite, including a cot, a chair, a writing desk, supplies, and a chest of clothes. In the chest cypress finds a leather bag containing 35 silver pieces, 20 electrum pieces, 20 gold pieces, 5 platinum pieces, and a tiny jeweled box worth 25 gold pieces which contains one pearl worth 100 gold pieces.
Halben firsts casts detect magic outside the tent. He notices that the ring Fawn holds in her hand glows with warding magic. He then walks into the tent and sees what Cypress did as well. Over the side beneath the chair he senses healing magic. As he leans over he has seen enough to where he knows he has found a Potion of Healing. He then sees a glow coming from the writing desk of this mage. As he gets closer he senses Evocation magic coming from a particular piece of paper. He picks up the page and can read immediately that it is a Spell Scroll of Darkness (Usable by Conway or Halben). As Halben flips through the other pages, he finds a type of log...
Research of Hamun Kost
- Arrived at the ancient Netheril ruins. Seems like many people come to visit. Hoping to find something useful but doubtful as it seems like someone should have found something if there was something to be found!
- Prospectors from the local town keep interrupting my work with questions. Apparently, this is called the "Old Owl Well". These fools do not know why and I do not see any owls!
- I tire of the prospectors. If I was closer to one of our outposts I would sell them into slavery. However, I feel I may raise a few of their old dead friends to run them off!
- The risen have been great deterrents to prospectors but I fear I have drawn the attention of a local Orc tribe. I have scryed them and found them to be operating out of an area nearby called Wyvern Tor. Too close for comfort! I will need to search local burial grounds to enlist more members into my army for protection!
- Still nothing. I have studied and cast so many detection spells I am not sure if I will have success here. I feel my time is limited as it is only a matter of time before Harper or Zhentarim agents start sniffing around once the fools I scared off start crying back in town.
- Received a message today that we are now allied with COTD. I do not understand the reasoning behind this.
- Success! I have finally found an ancient Netheril ring! I have identified it as a Ring of Protection. Here is a sketch of the item.
- Although I have felt success I still feel I have not learned why this ruin is here. Perhaps if I knew who built this tower I could use a spell to learn more about their past.
- I have "acquired" some knowledge from a local prospector I caught out by the creek. Apparently, a banshee exists nearby in a town called Conybear. This banshee allegedly will sometimes answer questions no one else knows the answer to. I wish to speak with this Agatha.
Fawn picks up the treasures Cypress just found. “Lets go ahead and split this coin” as she hands each member their share and “I can keep this in my bag until we get back to town” as she puts the box with the pearl in her bag
“I believe we need to get out of here posthaste as I feel if we do come across anything I am too week for battle and won’t last. I need meditation. We can retreat to the forest and discuss plans there if you’d like”
OCC: everyone gets
9 silver pieces (I’ll take 8)
5 electrum pieces
5 gold pieces
1 Platinum piece *DM decides where extra platinum piece will go*
I will keep the box with the pearl that’s worth 125 until we get to town where we can trade it
Halben picks up the healing potion and the scroll of darkness and adds it to his inventory. He then walks over to the ruins and says "I wonder who this Agatha and where this banshee is at" as he uses his knowledge in aracana to inspects the ruins. 11
OOC: Rolled a 1d4 and Fawn will get the 1 extra Platinum Piece.
Fawn splits up the loot but holds the ring in her hand. As Halben walks around the ruins he recognizes the ring Fawn holds as the one in the sketch! It must be the Ring of Protection. As Halben walks around he can sense a very faint magical aura that has faded over the years. He does not find much as many have searched these ruins. As he walks the stones he does identify a variety of languages carved into the stone and worn over time to where they are unable to be read. These range from common, to elvish, and orcish. It is clear these ruins have been here for some time. Halben does however note that the markings on the red mage now known as Hamun Kost have an origin of necromancy.

After a long battle and a well done investigation the group of companions retreat the forest to rest their bodies and heal their wounds. Cypress turns back into his elf form and sits against a tree attempting to get the taste of zombie out of his mouth. Fawn tries to relax but keeps finding herself jumping at every noise in the woods. The close call with death has rattled the rangers nerves. Halben watches the wood alert as while he is tired from his heavy use of spellcasting his body was not damaged and is fairing better than the others. Conway revels and tells the tale of how he retaliated in such spectacular form against the Red Wizard. Faster than it should seem the day passes and the sun begins to set. You begin to turn in for the night and take your normal watch order. As you drift off to sleep or meditation you think of the Old Owl Well and are thankful that you are all still here together.
Night comes and unfortunately so does a rain storm. It makes it slightly difficult to rest at first but you are so mentally and physically exhausted that you find rest. All three watches thankfully turn out to be uneventful. You awake in the morning after completing the long rest and feel much much better than you did the day before.

You pack up your things and begin to head out for Conybear. The ground is fairly wet from the rain the night before which slows you down a bit but allows you to move quietly... as well as anything else in the area. Based on your knowledge of the terrain you imagine that you should make it to Conybear by early afternoon. The trip gives you some time to discuss anything on your mind.
Please let me know if you are doing anything special along the journey.
You make your way up through the hills and finally arrive back on the Triboar Trail. Thankfully, the rain did not come back and make the terrain worse. Based on your best guess you are getting fairly close to Conybear. Then... You hear something in the wood along the trail next to you. Something large... You hear tree branches breaking as it comes in your direction quickly with a purposeful and meaningful walk. It then breaks the clearing looking dead at you and hungry. It let's our a ear piercing screech as you recognize it... An Owlbear. A monstrous cross between giant owl and bear, an owlbear’s reputation for ferocity and aggression makes it one of the most feared predators of the wild.
The Owlbear screeches as the blast knocks some of it's fur off. It is now focused on Conway and charges up to him right next to him and Halben.(Halben when you attack if ranged(non-save) it will need to be at disadvantage unless you move.
The Owlbear tries to bite Conway with it's beak! The Owlbear digs into Conway's shoulder and tears some meat out dealing 10Damage to Conway!
Attack: 25 Damage: 10
The Owlbear then reaches out with it's claws to hit the Warlock! The Owlbears then slashes it's claws against Conway dealing 8Damage to Conway!
Attack: 26 Damage: 8
The Owlbear tastes blood and wants more! Conway is pretty hurt!
Everyone may post their next turns! (Conway if you would like to use a reaction please let me know)
Fawn strikes first in retaliation against the Owlbear! She stabs into it's sides with both swords and they cut deep down to the hilt! Dealing 17 damage!
Cypress then once make shifts into an animal form. His skin becomes furry and his snout elongates as he becomes a Dire Wolf. He comes up and bites into the flank of the Owlbear dealing 6 damage! He latches on and tries to bring down the big animal but the Owlbear is too strong!
Halben then calls upon his power of flame as he releases Burning Hands! The flames shoot forth and surprising so for the Owlbears size it ducks out of the way! However, it's body cannot get completely out of harms way and the flame burn it's right side dealing 9 points of damage.
The Owlbear looks to be taking short breaths. It is clearly wounded and getting desperate!
Round 2! Conway is up! Conway may also post a reaction for last turn if chooses 2 do so.
Cypress puts his furry bear nose to the ground, smelling for gold and other treasures that may be near by
