Anyone who is looking (so nobody, given the troll) is surprised to see Ilena, the scrawny blushing monk, move with lighting speed. Almost before anyone can react to the troll, she races across the room, pulling a dart from somewhere, and flings it at Stirge9 emerging from the well. It misses wide (12), and sails across and down into the dark hole. Stirge9, having dodged the missile, dives at Ilena, grabbing her and stabbing her with its spike (19 for 5 dmg!).
The people in the crowd, including all the Thugs (except the Head Thug, who is unconscious), are scrambling as far away as they can get from the troll. On the other side of the well, people stream upstairs, hide in their booths, or gather at the far southeast corner of the room.
One group of people, including Thug1 and Thug4, struggle north, towards a back door by where Hildi and Volo are. Most of them get there, screaming and yelling, but two of the stirges dive for the crowd. Stirge5 attacks a human woman, stabbing her with its long nose, it sucks blood just as Hildi steps up onto the table, draws an arrow and shoots it through the abdomen, dead (23 for 10 dmg!). The woman does not look well, and lies there bleeding. Stirge6 follows its friend, attacking another patron, and similarly attaching itself and sucking blood. The pair collapse, and the half elf woman it attacked is unconscious and grey.
The group of people south of the troll, including Thug2, run for the main entrance, pushing and shoving as more stirges dive at them. Stirges 7 and 8 miss, battered away by panicked people, but Stirge4 manages to grab on to a human man, and they tumble to the floor. Jalester races over to them with a drawn longsword, stabbing the stirge through and kneeling over the man.
Drusk backs away, swinging his shield off his back and casting Bless on himself, Jorin, and Pascal.
As the troll heaves itself over the wall, the three stirges attached to it burp and lift off, and begin to lazily flap back down into the well. The massive green creature lands with a boom, and Yagra falls backwards to avoid it. The table it lands on splinters and collapses, and as Jorin rages up to it with a furious shout, it tries tothrow off his aim (15 w/bless) by tossing the hapless wizard’s arm at him, but he carves into it with his axe (10 dmg!). Pascal’s scales ripple with coruscating light, and he opens his mouth to blast a chaotic ball of light that coalesces into fire, as it sails over the troll (14 with +3 bless) and hits the far wall, igniting the bench and stools there.
The troll snaps at Yagra as she falls, missing, but reaches out its long arms and eviscerates her as she lies there (19 and 24 for 27 dmg!). It roars in triumph!
End of round: No end of round events.
Notes: This was a busy round! Initiative contests that mattered: Hildi vs Stirge5 (19 v. 20) for whether the woman died. Unfortunately, the stirge got there first. Drusk vs Jorin and Pascal for whether they were blessed before acting (yes, and it made a difference in Jorin's to hit roll!). I rolled in the private forum for Pascal's Bless and got +3, which was still a miss. Ilena was lucky in which stirge she picked to attack, as the others would have knocked her to zero! 1st level! Phew!
Round 4 DECLARATION phase
Map:
Sitrep: Ilena has a stirge attached to her neck! Hildi has a good view of the room from the top of the table. Stirges are attacking! People are screaming! The troll is roaring! Turns out, there are lots of torches illuminating the place, but they are all lit with Continual Flame! Ack! A fire has started on the south wall!

The remaining stirges look like they will continue attacking people, while the troll is intent on murdering whomever is closest to it. Jalester is trying to help the fallen man. Durnan is getting something from behind the bar. Volo is cowering in the corner of his booth. The patrons continue to scream and run, while employees are trying to assist.
Next: Everyone please declare. Note: anyone can remove an attached Stirge as an action, no roll needed (but it does take an action). Blessed characters can add 1d4 to hit (or Saves...). The torches lighting the Yawning Portal are Continual Flame-lit, and produce no heat or actual fire.

Oof, that damage. Pascal’s dead you guys, good game haha!
The firelight from Pascal's burning hands flickers in Jorin's crazed eyes, "Yes! Fire, burn it! Ahhggrllglglll" he snarls. He swings both axes at the troll!
(If the troll is shoved back 5', does it fall into the well? I'm debating if Drusk should try to Push the bigger-and-stronger Troll, bash it, or try a Guiding Bolt.

Ilena gasps as the stirge nearly drains the life out of her, blood trickles from the corner of her mouth and she coughs harshly. She steadies herself on the well wall and tries to remove the stirge from wherever it has attached itself to her. She thinks about trying to make a break for it, but sees the other patrons cowering behind her and stubbornly holds her ground, feeling woozy and spitting blood in the little stirge's general direction.
Drusk shouts out to the crowd: "Any strong adventurers need to help. We can't hold back the Troll by ourselves, and then everyone dies."
Cast Guiding Bolt at the Troll. Attack: 14 + 3 bless, Damage: 15 radiant (Phew, I would have been frustrated about the attack roll, without that Blessing... With a hit, next attack by anyone against the Troll gains Advantage.)

Ilena, feeling faint from the blood loss, firmly grips the horrifying flapping bat thing and yanks it out of her neck! She tries to hold on to it, but Stirge9 squirms out of her grip (3 vs 9), diving in for another bite (9), but Ilena nimbly dodges out of the way!
Suddenly, a large, handsome gentleman with scruffy blonde hair and a short beard, wielding a large, blue-glowing battle axe runs past her, “Pardon me, miss!” he says with a brilliant smile. He offhandedly swings at Stirge9, missing (12), on his way to jump, slide over a table, and land feet astride the unconscious head thug. He swings mightily at the troll with his glowing axe, missing once (13), but connecting on the next two strikes (24, 17 for 26 dmg!), grinning and laughing as he sends green blood flying in most directions.
A cheer comes up from the gallery above for the heroes, as Durnan leaps the bar, wielding an enormous, rune-carved great sword in one hand. “Meloon, nice of you to step in!” he says. He wades in next to the blonde newcomer, standing over Yagra’s body, but the troll manages to dodge all four of his slashing blows! (Seriously Durnan? 13, 10, 9, and 9? With a +8?)
Drusk swallows his words about other adventurers helping out, and calls down a glittering bolt of radiant energy on the troll (17 for 15 dmg!), dazzling the crowd (“Ooooh! Aaaah!”) and leaving the troll limned in an otherworldly light. Jorin, raging, swings his axes, connecting a glancing blow on the first strike (25! for 6 dmg) thanks to the glow from Drusk’s attack, but missing with the second (12).
The troll roars its frustration! Wounded, battered, it sees Pascal begin his incantation, and smelling fire, it screams in fury and bites at him, closing its jaws on his shoulder (22 for 7 dmg), then reaching in and rending at the lizard man with his claws, connecting once (20 for 11 dmg, 8 for a miss), tossing Pascal’s unconscious bulk aside, where he slumps against the wall of the well.
Meanwhile, Hildigrim cooly pulls another arrow and, sighting carefully, shoots Stirge9 as it flutters above Ilena, skewering it (20 for 5 dmg), and thudding into a nearby statue.
Stirge6, near Hildi and Volo, climbs off its previous victim and launches at another patron, stabbing her and taking her down in a heap! At the south end, as Jalester is stabilizing one of the victims, Stirge7 is batted away by Molly, while Stirge8 pierces another patron and they tumble to the floor.
End of round: The fire continues to burn merrily against the southern wall.
Notes: Whew! Initiative contests between the troll and Pascal (sorry JcAndD!), and then between Ilena, Stirge9, and Hildigrim, to see who did what first. And then Drusk’s Guiding Bolt gave Jorin Advantage, so I took Guiltysparc’s “Extra d20 for DM’s use” which was a 16, +4 from Bless, +5 for proficiency, etc., is a 25 to hit! And technically neither Ilena nor Stirge9 had an extra action to grapple/slip grapple (she used her action to pull it off of her, it used its action to attack her), but after all that off-thread commentary about Action Economy... ;)
Round 5 DECLARATION phase
Map:
Sitrep: Pascal is down! Jorin is joined by Durnan and this new guy, Meloon, up in the troll’s business. Hildigrim still has a good view of the room, which is much emptier now. Drusk and Ilena are free of attackers. There’s a stirge near Hildi, and three employees getting ready to deal with it, and Jalester and Molly are dealing with two stirges down south. Oh, and there’s a fire, too.
Start of round: D and J are blessed this round and 8 more. J is raging this round and 8 more. Troll, not hit by fire, heals!

Durnan and Meloon are confronting the troll. Jalester is standing up with his longsword, making for one of the stirges down there. Volo is not cowering anymore, and is actually trying to get a better look as the heroes of Waterdeep are coming out!

OOC > Yes, spell slot did not fire. And that is an excellent use of contingency in your Declaration, about using Shield.
Drusk - AC 18 - 17/17 hp blessed
Hildigrim - AC 14 - 15/15 hp
Ilena - AC 16 - 2/7 hp
Jorin - AC 15 - 21/21 hp blessed, raging
Pascal - AC 14 - 0/18 hp unconscious
-----
Troll - looking rough, but feeling better every six seconds!
Stirge4 - dead, by Jalester
Stirge5 - dead, by Hildigrim
Stirge6 - fine
Stirge7 - fine
Stirge8 - fine
Stirge9 - dead, by Hildigrim
Durnan - fine
Jalester - fine
Meloon - fine
Yagra Stonefist - unconscious (I'm not dead yet!)
Head Tattoo - unconscious
Thug2 - fine, escaped
Thug3 - fine, hiding by the privy
Monsters declare! The troll looks rough, but you see its wounds are closing over, and it is clearly still crazed. The three remaining stirges are still attacking. Durnan and Meloon are confronting the troll. Jalester is standing up with his longsword, making for one of the stirges down there. Volo is not cowering anymore, and is actually trying to get a better look as the heroes of Waterdeep are coming out!
Next: Everyone please declare. Except Pascal. You can roll a Death Save. :) Drusk and Jorin are blessed and can add 1d4 to attacks.
ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he).
Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. Here's my D&D stuff. I love it so.
Campaign links for Game Log access because DDB has abandoned the forum dice roller, apparently.

OOC > JcAndD, Pascal will be the recipient of a Healing Word spell for 7 hp at the very start of the next round (someone has been holding it Ready), so he will be able to act. Go ahead and Declare, but remember Pascal is prone.

Jorin, even half blinded by blessed rage, sees the glowing battleaxe of his fellow troll slayer. He strikes with his own and between it and the follow-up strike, throws an approving nod at the other axeman. His Joy is short lived as he noticed his scalely new friend, Pascal, laid out on the floor. He roars with renewed vigor as the troll blood flies!
Pascal stands.

”Alright, let’s try this again...” BURNING HANDS! DC 12: 14 fire damage death cone!
I assume that the spell slot was not used earlier.
If attacked by a roll of 18 or lower, I use Shield

OOC > Yes, spell slot did not fire. And that is an excellent use of contingency in your Declaration, about using Shield. I usually flip through each character's Reaction options during combat, to see if I should offer anyone options, but will admit I forgot to do so this time. Lucky for me the two hits were over 18. Phew! (But seriously, I would have retconned it, no matter how ugly.)

(Drusk thinks about striking the Troll, but notices that would put him in the line of fire if Pascal casts Burning Hands.)
Drusk moves 30' south, and swings at stirge #7. Attack: 11 Damage: 7
Initiative: 11 (extra d20 if needed: 8 ) (Forgot bless, but that won't be enough to hit.)

Ilena sees Hildigrim's bolt cut the stirge out of the air then looks around to see who else she can help. She sees stirge 6 take down another tavern patron and rushes toward it trying to swat it before its victim is beyond saving.
