Content that his friend is investigating the book, Rhomorn walks up to the nearest sleeping patron and bends down to inspect them (perception: 2). He mulls over his options. A good slap to the face has always managed to wake him up, even during the deepest of sleeps or drunkest of evenings...
And with that, Rhomorn takes his large scaley hand, and confidently (and rather unceremoniously) smacks the sleeping person across the face.
Thaldost awakens to a tremendous SLAP! He bolts upright and does a kind of backwards summersault scramble thing, knocking over his chair and crashing across a table and chairs behind him (Dex roll 4 + 2) in an manner that might not be described as 'graceful.' He bellows "WHO WHAT WHY?!" at the world... then, blinking, stares around in confusion at the sleeping patrons an the paladin before him. 'YOU!' he points at the Dragonborn. 'YOU WANT TO FIGHT OR SOMETHING?!?!'
Then, off to the side... he notices the book... and a look of greed comes over him...
Noting to himself that a good slap never fails, Rhomorn takes in the man before him. He lets out a good natured chuckle when the man tumbles backwards, which turns to a full bellied laugh when the man asks if he wants to fight.
"Far from it my good man! You see my compatriot and I are here on behalf of the Castle Watch, we have in fact come to help!" He lowers his weapon and extends his off hand to the man, in an open gesture of trust, his red scales glimmering against the candle light of the room.
As Rhomorn and Thaldost become acquainted, Zailoth moves towards the hovering book hoping to see some of the writing. Unfortunately distance and the flaping pages make it impossible to make out any of the writing.
OOC: Shane, there's a row of bookshelves directly in front of you. If you want to get closer you'll have to go around.
Thaldost narrows his eyes, sizing up the dragonborn. He looks him up and down with an expression that seems like it could penetrate stone. Finally, he grunts, with a small nod of approval and a wry smile that almost says 'yes... I can use this one.' He then looks over at Zailoth and shouts 'careful! meddle not in things you do not understand!' and then rushes to reach the book before he does....
Zailoth watches as the once slumbering man runs past him, "Oh. . I do research these things my friend. . .as I am sure. . . " realizing he won't have time to finish his thought before the stranger reaches the book he steadies himself to observe the outcome.
Everyone else watches while Kafraxis attempts to climb the shelf after the animated book. Clearly athletics is not his strong suit because he comes down faster than he went up and lands soundly on his butt.
At the same time, a flash comes from the flapping book and a mote of fire springs forth. Clearly however, the book expected Kafraxis to be somewhere else, because the flame sails through open air. Luckily, the library floors are made of stone and not wood. The flames smoulders where it lands.
After his Hasty and mad scramble up the bookshelves Kafraxis suddenly finds himself flat on his ass. He is mortified. Such is not the kind of position that a hexblade is used to finding oneself in! Coughing strategically to attempt to present Sonic cover, he slowly stands up and Smooths his robes out and adjust everything, pretending like he definitely intended that the whole time. He gives a grumpy side-eye to the entire room, daring them to laugh at him for his dramatic athletic failures. He stares just long and hard enough to make people second-guess their Mirth. Then, satisfied, he attempts to adjust his robes in a most dignified Manner and Squints up at the glowing book above him. For the first time, he considers actually thinking about the book and considering what it is about. He Squints and squeezes his eyes, actually taking the time to study the book instead of just greedily trying to grab it. He's trying to understand what is book is about and if he seen anything similar before. Roll equals15 + 2 = 17.
Picking up on a fluttering that seems to be coming from further into the library, Rhomorn decides to leave this floating book to his comrade-in-arms and to the new court jester (he supposes that is who the man is, he certainly has been entertaining to watch!) he has met. He heads off in search of the source of the fluttering, following the holes in the side of his scaly head where most creatures have ears.

"What is that thing? What happened here?"

Rushing past everyone, Kafraxis greedily grabs at the book as fast as he can...
OOC: Paul, the book is hovering above the book shelves, do you climb them to try to reach it?
Yes I Leap Forward and attempt to grab on and heave myself up them in a wild scramble, reaching out for the book.
