Preah follows quickly on the heels of Gale, pulling out her new Javelin and opening herself to the forces of good and evil (Divine sense to gather the location of the Imp)
Seeing her more combat ready siblings run after the imp, Elsa turns back to her reading, thinking they will likely know what to do, and she doesn't want to lose her train of thought.
As Gale reaches the top of the first flight of stairs he can see that Havi continues to climb stairs and is, therefore, heading to the third floor in pursuit of the invisible imp.
Preah, close on the heels of her brother, taps into her divine sense, which instantaneously alerts her of a fiendish presence BEHIND her, somewhere in the ground floor of the tower.
Elsa, not overly concerned by the unexpected disruption, continues to read through the songs and refrains that are written within Songs of Revelry and Sorrow.
(Waiting for Irthos' action before advancing the story and posting a map. Keep in mind that, currently, only Preah is aware that some sort of fiend is located in the main room of the tower)
As the revelation about the imp is made and Havi shoots upstairs with Gale and Preah close behind Irthos isn't quite sure what to make of the situation. Realising that Elsa isn't reacting to it at all he is confused about what to do. He begins to make his way upstairs curious to see if the imp can be caught and to see what is going on, but he doesn't rush up in a hurry and instead moves up at a normal walking pace behind his two siblings with a quick glance back to Elsa as he goes.
Irthos once again finds himself confused as he suddenly finds Preah charging back down the stairs she had just disappeared up. As she flies past he says from behind her: "What is it? Is it dangerous? Do you need a hand?"
Preah turns, narrowly avoids knocking Irthos over, and dashes down the stairs. Whatever it is that triggered her divine sense is relatively small and, of course, invisible; furthermore, she knows that it just darted under a reading table approximately 40' from her.
Gale dashes up another flight of stairs and reaches the third floor where Havi is clawing at some books on one of the bottom shelves.
Elsa turns another page in the book she's reading, and Kordmemian--clearly upset--asks, "What is the meaning of this? Not in Oghma's House!"
Elsa, turns with a start nearly knocking her book off of the reading table, when Preah comes rushing down the stairs. "Huh? Where? I don't see anything"
Nonetheless she hastily unwraps her lyre, preparing to cast faerie fire once Preah tells her what area to target.
Gale tries to figure out where the invisible imp may be based on where the cat is clawing the books and the objects in the area and sweeps his hands back and forth trying to grab a hold.

Gale swats aside a few books on the bottom shelf, which unexpectedly reveals a large rat. Havi attempts to pounce on the creature, but Gale is slightly faster than the feline and takes hold of the rodent momentarily. The rat writhes violently, however, and is just able to escape the cleric's grasp.
A moment later, the rat morphs into an imp that glares up at Gale and says, "And just what've I done to earn all this trouble?"
Dex save for creature targeted by faerie fire: 14
Meanwhile, on the ground floor, Preah pinpoints the location of the fiend for her sister Elsa who responds by casting faerie fire. Her spell instantly creates an imp-shaped outline standing beneath the table. The outline slowly fills in with the full color and shape of the imp as it gives up on its attempt to remain invisible.
In a rather defeated tone, the imp says, "Foiled again. Merely trying to a bit of reading of my own, I was. My kind aren't welcome here in the House of Knowledge it seems."

Elsa regards the imp, "Is that so? I have a small amount of experience being unwelcome. What is your name?" She says, trying to distract the imp from seeing that she is attempting to discern whether it was lying about "just" wanting to do some reading.
Gale answers the imp, "Being invisible for one. Rarely do honest folk have to hide. Also being on the material plane. You belong in the nine hells. Who do you serve?"
Anger flashes across the imp's face momentarily as it listens to Gale's response. "You're a rather bossy chap, aren't you? And I'd suggest that belonging in Nine Hells is a matter of one's opinion. It's simply not the place for me. No, not at all. It's a bit too cutthroat for my liking, if you know what I mean. Regarding my purpose here, I will only say that I serve myself, which, if you must know, means that I was hoping to steal a certain book. Not an entirely honest endeavor, that's true. But I'm sure you'll agree it's not worth all this commotion."
Gale sifts through the imp's answers, which, for now, seem reasonable. Havi hisses and growls at the imp but keeps her distance.

In the main room of the House of Knowledge, Elsa discerns immediately that the imp is engaging in a bit of subterfuge. "Yes, that's just the right way of saying it: 'unwelcome'," responds the imp. "I'm called Grummerzap, and I'm wanting nothing more than to do some research for my master. But, of course, bat-like wings and a scorpion-like tail means I must slink around and, therefore, look guilty all the time."
Elsa shifts her stance and tries to buy time for her siblings to draw closer. "Well, Grummerzap, sometimes you just have to approach in good faith and ask nicely. I have silver scales and a tale, and my breath is like frost, but a little charm can go a long way." She kneels and reaches her hand out toward him offering it in greeting.
"I would point out," Grummerzap replies, "that you might have just a slight advantage. Being affiliated with dragons is far more socially acceptable than being affiliated with Asmodeus, Belial, and Baalzebul. Nonetheless, I fully concur with the notion that being charming has its uses. Hmm...that didn't come out right, did it?"
The imp jumps onto the table, allowing itself to stand, almost, eye-to-eye with Elsa. "My master...is...well, you see...my master is...the Old Snarl..now I can say no more." So, please, ask no more."
The tiny fiend then changes the subject altogether. "Need to find Rubnub and be on my way, I suppose." Then, turning to Kordmemian, "Sorry to have caused so much trouble, master clerk. I shall inform the master straight away that our presence here is most unwanted. I'm sure my research can be done elsewhere."
Grummerzap then examines the strange glow from the faerie fire that surrounds his body and says, "Lovely little trick. Really it is. No need for it anymore, right?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gale looks at the imp and replies, "Well, your little shenanigans are interrupting our research. What is the name of this book you want to steal? The sooner you get it and leave, the sooner we'll have privacy and quiet."

Elsa considers for a moment, trying to recall if she knows anything about the Old Snarl. She feels like the imp has been forthcoming, but she doesn't feel comfortable letting it leave either. She decides to leave it up to the temple's custodian, or her siblings, but leave her faerie fire in place for the time being.
"Hmm... I'm grateful that you've been forthcoming about your master, but you've already lied to me at least once. You'll have to give me a little more truth to persuade me to just let you go. The custodian of this place seems rather alarmed by your presence, and I'm not sure he'll even give me the choice."
On the third floor of the House of Knowledge, the imp offers an unimpressive answer to Gale's question about the title of the book. "The book is called...hmmm...yes, that's right. I actually don't know. I was merely given a description."
On the ground floor, Grummerzap listens to Elsa's response and then turn to look at Kordmemian in an effort to gauge what the clerk might do next. Kordmemian begins to utter a few words, and everyone in the room--Elsa, Irthos, Preah, and the imp--realize that he is casting a spell.

In the span of a minute, Grummerzap has answered a series of questions from the clerk, revealing that he has been ordered to follow the dragonborn siblings (and was doing so on their home island a few days ago), learn what their next destination is, and report that information to an ancient red dragon named Klauth, who bears the nickname Old Snarl.
Kordmemian looks at Elsa, Irthos, and Preah and asks, "Is there anything else I might ask of this little fiend on your behalf?"
