A putrid stream flows along this sewer tunnel, which leads in two directions. In one direction, Silver sees a tiny symbol drawn on the wall in yellow chalk. As you slip into the darkness and stalk up closer, you see that it's a palm-sized circle with ten equidistant spokes radiating out from its circumference. From your time in the guild you know that following this symbol will lead you to the nearest base. You also know these are temporary and get erased after a few days and are only re-added when needed by newer members of the guild.
Aenio casts light on the torch trying to make it brighter before trying to recall some of the sewers past events.
History:9
The spell doesn't increase the brightness any, but it does help rid you of that annoying flicker that flames have. As you look at the flicker-less torch you think back across your life trying to recall all you know about the sewers of Waterdeep. You know that Xanathar's Guild makes it's home here. You know that there are places where it leads to the undermountain. And you know that the City Watch never comes down here.
As Vassa goes to look around the hood of his disguise falls over his eyes. All he can see is his feet.
As Vassa reaches the bottom of the ladder he attempts to imitate Silver and, in his hubris, is convinced that he has.
'Vassa is a little concerned with how his shoes will fare in the sewer muck, despite the rag-wrappings that he's tied about them as part of his 'cunning' disguise. The rogue tries to follow their confident guide but can't see hide or hair of him, though Vassa is almost certain that Silver is not sitting at the bard's feet. He smiles as the other half-drow reappears, as if by magic, and sets off after him. This fellow might be a handy addition to their crew after all, the bard thinks, if he can be trusted, that is...'

After an hour of following signs through the tunnels, you come to a three-way intersection where a ladder leads up into a stone shaft capped by a circular metal cover. One of the familiar chalk symbols is marked on a wall nearby, and floating near the symbol is a spherical, grapefruit-sized creature with a bulging central eye and four stumpy eyestalks. It bares its teeth at you.
Kestrell sets his lantern down and draws an arrow.
'Hearing Kestrell's question, Vassa pulls Asariel down into a crouch beside him as he whispers to the ranger and the rest of the party,'
"That's a gazer. A kind of beholder-kin. Less deadly... but still a beholder-kin, so plenty deadly enough!
But it hasn't attacked us yet. Asa or Aenio, as 'magicky' folk, do know anything more about these things? I've heard tales that these sorts of creatures use sorcery.
Hey, Silver - what about you? Know anything about this?"
[OOC] Unless the creature or one of his companions attacks, Vassa is going to study the creature and continue conferring with the group about their best course of action - hopefully providing help and giving advantage to the Kestrell or whoever else wants to have a go at assessing this thing's intentions.

"don't ask me, the wizard would know if anyone though, I wouldn't touch it, that I know from experience... never again"
