For this game, we understand everyone's time is limited every day. Please try to:
- Post at least once every other day if able. - Characters may interact with each other freely. Please stay in character and talk in a manner consistent with the times, theme and your character’s backstory. E.g., if you are lawful good you are not going to want to bathe in the blood of innocent women and children. Stay in character. - All posts are to be in 3rd person, with "Quotations for dialogue." Your dialogue should be colored as follows: Nick (Solaris) – BLUE,Josh (Autzen) – GREEN, Mike (Vixus) – PURPLE, Nick (Adolmain) – RED. - There are no minimum word counts for posting as long as your character is either: doing something, saying something, thinking about something, or passing their turn. - Your posts in character should be in complete sentences. No chat room speak or shorthand. - When talking in OOC, out of character, use parentheses. This is to ask questions to other players or the DM, or just to have a conversation. I would keep regular off-topic conversation to a minimum in this thread and instead take it to our group PM. - When making rolls, please insert the roll into the same post you are making them, along with what you are rolling in parentheses at the end. For example, Autzen tends to the campfire and attempts to keep it stoked despite the cold. (15 for Survival) - When using abilities, please insert the tooltip into the same post you are using them. - During combat, you can only post once until every character has had a chance to post, and then the DM has had a chance to post the monsters. - During combat, please indicate which actions you are taking, if any apply: bonus, standard, movement. Example in the spoiler below. - Feel free to make OOC caveats during your turn, e.g., “(but if the kobold dies, my attack is directed at the human)” - Coordinating attacks, decisions and moves should be done "in character" as none of you are mind readers. Avoid OOC coordination of attacks, strategy, etc. If you have a particular strategy on dealing with a challenge, discuss it in character in a manner that is realistic. For example, if all of you are in a chaotic scene against monsters, you're realistically not gonna have time to coordinate complex attack plans. Shout to your party members on where to go and such, but no "back channel" discussion of complex strategies and such.
ANCILLARY RULES AND RANDOM TIDBITS
Inspiration Points. I will issue Inspiration points as a reward for posts that go above and beyond what is expected. Rewards can come from in-depth and quality role-play, using a cool photo in your post, clever maneuvers or ability checks, etc. When you use an inspiration point for a roll that could have an advantage or disadvantage, you get advantage on that roll. You may only have 1 inspiration point at any given time.
Mistakes and Correcting Rulings. I have not DM'd a full campaign in years so I'll undoubtedly make mistakes (or one of you might make a mistake in your play). If you believe a straightforward mistake was made, please note the mistake in your post in OOC format, succinctly describe the mistake and hyperlink to the rule. For example:
(OOC: Nate - I believe you forgot that since I'm Tiefling I can see in dim light up to 60 feet away. See PHB on Tiefling Darkvision).
Once I confirm the rule I can make a corrective ruling, issue inspiration, or adjust the encounter.
ABSENCES
Please let the DM know about planned absences. I will note them below for everyone to see. If possible, have another player take over your character during absences so we don’t slow the game down. If you are having a long absence, I will come up with a story for your to “disappear” and rejoin the group later.
I may have a back-up DM to cover for me when I anticipate a long absence.

Player 2 (Josh - Bridge253)
- Name: Autzen the Arid of House Knight - Class: Fighter - Lvl: 1 - Alignment: True Neutral - Race: Tiefling - Inspiration Points: 1 - Bio: Being born into House Knight granted Autzen unparalleled privilege but the strict familial adherence to the Lord of the Nine Hells rang hollow. While his house was wholly obsessed with gaining power, Autzen viewed their actions with indifference. The hero and the villain are equally self-serving and fraudulent. Leaving his position behind, necessity drove Autzen to the underworld, where his situationalism and natural skills with the sword proved to be an asset. Life as a mercenary, serving no master other than the coin, has proven to be a comfortable fit.
Rastin Vixus is the first-born, eldest son of King and heir to the throne. Rastin’s entire life has been dedicated to training to prepare him to rule. He is steeped in history, philosophy, arts, and sciences. Rastin is a born fighter and trained with the best knights in the kingdom. But as Rastin grew older, he realized that no one should be more privileged than others simply because they were born into a higher station. The very idea of royalty became antithetical to his belief system. Rastin ultimately chose to reject his birthright and devote his life to creating fairness and equality in the world. Protecting the those who are weaker and less fortunate. Since Rastin turned his back on his family, he consider his friends to be his kin. It is a difficult thing for Rastin as a Dragonborn, but his belief in justice for all is stronger than even his bond to his clan.
Adolmain spent his life thus far as a wandering nomad bound to no land. He knew from an early age he was different the voice that speaks to him in his dreams revealed it. The Angel Valandras told him of his powers of sorcery and that the day would come that he would need to work his way to the sword coast to join with adventurers that would lead him to destroy evil.
You approach the campfire, weary and tired. You recently made your way to Neverwinter, for reasons only you know, as you have not said much to your companions. You've just met these companions, and you figure there will be plenty of time to get to know each other, for better or worse. Perhaps as all of you huddle around the campfire before retiring for the night. you will share your story….
While contemplating whether to retire for the night, you recount privately in your mind the last few days. You and the rest of the party followed the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you’ve just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You’ve encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker asked volunteers to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found “something big,” and that he’d pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen’s Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. Needing gold, you decide to join the three other volunteers to escort the wagon. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to “take care of business.
You begin to think that if you're going to travel with adventurers you've just met, perhaps you should learn more about them. Of course, sleep calls you as well….
(OOC: suggest each of you start talking to one another and give your backstory and such. Can be short, long, or you can just go to bed for a long rest without saying a word. I'll leave the RP open until each of you signal in your final post that you are going to sleep. Not giving anything away, but keep in mind you are on a dangerous road at night, so if you sleep, maybe someone should stand guard. Feel free to do ability checks if you want to check the surroundings, do some research, play games, or whatever. Heck you can even start drinking and do Constitution checks for when you pass out lol. Up to you. Just an intro to get the role-play going and get your guys to learn about each other. Have at it and good luck! Map and NPC tracker updated on Page 1).
Adolmain speaks to all present and states “I have been told that this trail is very dangerous I think it best to keep security through the night. I would be willing to stand watch for 3 hours and then switch shifts with one of you others.” Adolmain will do a perception roll to determine if there is any danger 21.
Solamain states ”that sounds wise. I would like to know who I travel with? I have joined this group to test my self, and god will ensure that all that happens is as it should. My life has been spent in a monastery mastering inner self I am at one with myself and nature.” Solamain attempts to perception if danger is near 13
Adolmain inspects the road near where the companions built their camp. The road is littered with tracks, but Adolmain instantly recognizes some fresh tracks - goblin tracks! What appears to be tracks of four goblins veer into the nearby woods separately into two groups of two goblin tracks. The wear of the tracks, caused by the wind and subsequent travelers make it difficult to determine how old the tracks are, but Adolmain surmises that the goblin are about a half day ahead.
(OOC: Due to the awesomeness of rolling a natural 20 on the very first player post for this campaign, the reward is you can't be surprised for 24 hours (assuming Nick/Adolmain shares with the group his findings. Nice roll!)
Adolmain tells the party “I see that this path has been traveled before numerous times and it appears that it was very recently traveled by goblins, 4 to be specific that separated and look to be ahead of us a half day. We should be on guard for ambush as we travel ahead.”
Solmain is curious “If we are attacked it would be good to know what we are transporting. It suddenly seems strange to me that we are getting paid so highly for this simple load of supplies. What say all of you?”
Autzen is leery of sharing. Growing up with wings and a devilish appearance has not always made for the most welcoming of experiences, especially in a setting such as this.
Besides, this endeavor is about the coin, not the camaraderie . At Solamain's mention of "god", Autzen mutters to himself, "Faad, hafr qav uw vyiv", and chuckles quietly. Solamain has only confirmed what Autzen has known since his youth, people are only as good, or as evil, as the situation presents. Solamain speaks of "god" and yet now is willing to betray the trust of our dwarf employer. Best to keep a close eye on this Solamain... didn't he call himself Solaris earlier today? Suspicious.
"Look if you like, Solamain, if that is your name, it makes no difference to me. And Aldomain, if it's all the same to you, I'll take the late watch... just before dawn. My Darkvision will assure nothing reaches this camp before it's felt my blade, including these wandering Goblins ." With that Autzen retires to his fireside bed.
Solmain is curious “If we are attacked it would be good to know what we are transporting. It suddenly seems strange to me that we are getting paid so highly for this simple load of supplies. What say all of you?”
Solaris eyes the two oxen and the covered wagon, wondering what could be in the wagon….
(OOC: Just describing the caravan you. are escorting. Requires at least one of you to drive the wagon, two can fit in the front. All of you are on foot).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Dungeon Master Private Game - Lost Mines of Phandelver.
“We were hired to deliver this wagon and its cargo safely. I believe we should carry out our mission and I intend to do so regardless of the nature of the cargo. Thus, it matters not to me what is in the wagon. I recommend we focus on our mission and on the goblins you rightly suspect we may encounter along the way.” I’m hopeful these men are honorable and will see the right path, thinks Vixus. “As for your proposal to take last watch Autzen, I am fine with that plan and will gladly take watch after Adolmain.”
Solaris although unsure of there new situation will pull his guard shift as it comes and plans on sleeping until that time. Solaris does state “I care not for what we transport. I always err on the side of careful and if attacked I want no trap to be unwittingly sprung on us from whatever this dwarf whom I might add we don’t truly know may have set on this valuable cargo. So if everyone feels it’s safe then to sleep I go.”
Each of the adventurers sleep well, each taking two hour guard shifts. Surprisingly, nothing disturbs your sleep, though the Angel Valandaras visits Adolmain in his dreams.
Solaris, exercising extreme caution, manages to learn that the cargo is not trapped (OOC - Nick rolled a 21 in private message to me - ok to post such checks publicly Nic). In fact, while checking for traps he learns that the cargo is harmless. Specifically, the wagon is packed full of an assortment of mining supplies and food. This includes a dozen sacks of flour, several casks of salted pork, two kegs of strong ale, shovels, picks, and crowbars (about a dozen each), and five lanterns with a small barrel of oil (about fifty flasks in volume). Solaris estimates that the value of the goods is 100 gold pieces.
Your party readies itself for the trail ahead. You estimate that you are about a day away from Phandelver, you final location, assuming you go at a normal pace.
(OK - I need you guys to tell me your formation. Again, all of you are on foot, but at least one person needs to be on the wagon to steer the oxen and the cargo. The wagon can hold all four of you, with two in the back and two up front. Keep in mind that if you are in the caravan, you may have to move in order to deal with a threat (e.g., jump out of the caravan wagon). Of course you can have three or two walking side by side the oxen. Just need to know your general location to the wagon as you proceed down the road towards Phandelver. Once I have your formation I will assume you are going at normal pace and we'll continue the adventure.)
Adolmain suggests “I might be best suited to ride in the wagon as I can cast spells and shoot arrows from the wagon if attacked we will need the fighters on the ground. What think all of you?” I will also be prepared with witch bolt
With Solaris and Vixus walking, Autzen sees options. 100 gold worth of supplies in the cart and reins in hand? Best to play this job out, they seem like a decent group of adventurers, but options are options.
"I suppose that leaves me the wagoner... shall we?" Autzen whips the reins and the party is off.
