'Kestrell holds the book up high, then inspects the cover for a title, then hands it off to someone else who wants to look at.'
'While they are looking at the book, Kestrell goes back to the southwest corner and starts cutting through the webbing to get to the inanimate remains behind and determine what type of creature they were.'
'As Kestrell unwinds the grey wool swaddling, he sees no title or wording, either on the tome's cover or spine. Turning the book over in his hands as he examines it, the observant bard notices a tiny sheet of rolled parchment slip from within the protective woolen material to fall to the cavern floor. The rolled sheet of parchment is secured only by a single bright green silk ribbon.
The leather front of the book itself is adorned with a raised golden symbol, like two interconnected pyramids seperated by a crescent moon. The book appears old, though not necessarily ancient, the outside edges of its paper irregular, yellowed and, in some places, even a little singed. Its hard leather cover weathered by time as well as what would appear to be rough handling. Scratches and even small cuts mar its surface, with the binding worn perhaps from the frequent touch of huminoid hands and the iron clasps and lock rusted from thoughtless or ill-conceived exposure to moisture.
Nice job with that skeleton, Bugbear! Once we figure out what this poor critter used to be, what do you think about going back down to the crevasse and trying to climb over it on the side wall with ropes and the like?"
'Together Orlys and the seemingly reinvigorated navigator make short work of the silvery webs in the Southwest corner, smashing and hacking (more of the former than the latter) their way through to reach the still suspended and mostly intact humanoid skeleton. A few of the bones appear snapped in half and the skull has two almost parallel wholes in the top, but apart from that the remains appear to be all here. Applying his limited knowledge of anatomy with his more learned though general understanding of natural lifeforms as a whole, Kestrell deduces that this was likely a human skeleton or, perhaps, that of a half-elf.
Nothing appears to lie behind these webs except for the cold, unwelcoming stone of the cavern wall.'

A’ro just bends down to pick up some of the tattered leather pieces and places them in his pocket. He then looks at the book as Kestrell looks for someone to hand it off to, he holds out his hand"I can take a look at the well you do whatever you do."
As Kestrell hands it off he begins to run his hand over the symbol concentrating on his connection to the arcane nature of the world hoping that his primordial connection will yield some result or guidance as to what this book or symbol may be. His hand tracing it gently and in a repeated fashion.
Orlys shakes his head at Kestrell's suggestion they explore the chasm. "Ye've saved me from a fate what is worse than death, and so I'll help ye with yer task: a book, venom, mushrooms. But I'll not keep delving where it's not needed. I'd be out and aboard any ship'll have me afore I sleep next, if I can."

'The entirely self-taught sorcerer studies the strange symbol, but A'ro is certain that he has never seen its like before. Reaching out with his elementally aligned senses, the genasi again senses nothing that speaks to his tempetuous stormborn spirit, though something about the book does seem almost familiar to the intrigued master of sail.'

Curiosity began to get the best of the genasi as the the familiarity of the book gets to him. He reaches for the lock and tries to undo it, hoping to open the book and read it's pages.
'Kestrell picks up the rolled parchment and unties the green ribbon.'
"What do we have here, hmm?"
'Kestrell easily removes the ribbon from the rolled parchment to reveal the following letter written in common and penned in a simple and legible scrawl using common black ink,'

'Kay looks around at her companions, and tally's the items that they have collected,'"One tome, several venom sacs (or will've after we collect the remaining spiders), and four mushrooms. I believe the agreement was five, but perhaps she'll take some of her potions back instead? Seems we should make our way back at any rate. Shall we?"
'Seeing that the officers and her other companions have occupied themselves and are not paying attention, she clears her throat.' "Hey! I think we should go before we are assaulted by more spiders? What say you?"
'Seeing that the officers and her other companions have occupied themselves and are not paying attention, she clears her throat.' "Hey! I think we should go before we are assaulted by more spiders? What say you?"
"I think we got all the spiders, Kay. And besides..."
'Kestrell swishes his new rapier through the air:'
"If we didn't I'll let my new blade scare them off, heeya!"
'Kestrell walks to the northeast corner, that he doesn't remember being explored yet and investigates the purple crystal. Is it the same as the others? Is there anything behind it?'

'Kestrell walks to the northeast corner, that he doesn't remember being explored yet and investigates the purple crystal. Is it the same as the others? Is there anything behind it?'
'Walking carefully across the slippery iced cavern floor to examine the third purple glowing crystal, Kestrell notices no differences between this one and the other two. The tall, multi-armed tree-like structures are unlike any other crystal formations that the well travelled bard has seen before, to say nothing of the steady violet light and almost pleasant warmth that emnates inexplicably from within. Glancing around and behind the crystal, the curious navigator sees naught of interest except for the bank of silver webbing that walls off further progress Northwards. Holding his once again dimmed lantern up to examine the webs closely, Kestrell sees no sign of any large predators within the webs, merely a few bright blue and white thumb-size spiders and the odd desiccated rat or bat corpse.
Seeing you all moving about in the lantern light and purple glow below him, a clearly worried Virt calls out,'
"How fare ye, friends? I thought that I heard the sounds of another clash. Is all well below?"

"We're doing fine Virt, you stay there in case we need help being pulled out of here. Oh, we found the book!"
'Kestrell takes the handle of his dagger and tries to break off a branch of the purple crystal.'
'Tapping the metal weapon on the crystalised rock once again makes the expected *chink* sound, but even one of the thinner branches resists Kestrell's casual attempt to remove it. The navigator is fairly certain that it will take a concentrated application of strength to even have any hope of snapping off one of the smaller protrusions.'

"Hmm. Maybe Orlys could break a branch with his maul?" 'Kestrell thinks to himself as he looks at the webbing beyond, something catching his attention.'
'Kestrell cuts through the webbing just enough to see if there is a tunnel behind the webbing or just the cavern wall.'

'Cutting away the silvery, icy metallic webs is hard going even with Kestrell's new rapier and the bard eventually stops out of concern that he might dull or even notch or break the blade. However, the inquisitive navigator removes enough of the tangled mass to be fairly certain that the strands are packed deep here, likely obstructing a tunnel or chamber beyond.'

"A tunnel, possibly a chamber! There is more back here! But first!"
'Kestrell whirls around, sheathing his rapier and drawing his original rapier and swiping down with the flat of the blade at a particularly narrow part of a thing branch of the purple crystall tree.'
A'ro just looks at the group "We have what we came for - let's not get cocky. We should go back deliver the book and get back to town."

'Still apparently under the debilitating effects of the venom injected into his veins, Kestrell's swipe with his original rapier connects with a loud *CLANK* but the blow appears to have done more damage to the blade than the rock, notching the steel slightly but leaving little more than a scratch in the inch thick crystal outcropping.'
